GREAT DAILY DRIVER OR EASY RESTORATION PROJECT!

1981 Jeep CJ7 Renegade..Last year of the narrow tracks..258ci 6cyl, BW T18 4spd w/6.0 low gear, Dana 300 T-Case, PS, Hard Top and Bikini Top w/soft half soft doors.

This is an unrestored rust free original California CJ7..The body is good with the usual array of small dings and holes drilled through the years for different tops, carriers, handles, speakers etc..The frame and floors are solid..The paint and decals are ok for being 20+ years old but do show wear. The factory rear spare tire carrier has been re-installed as per the pics.

New windshield,dash pad,passenger mirror,muffler and fender flairs.

The engine is a 258(4.2L) 6cyl that starts and runs great..it has had a carburetor conversion to a Motorcraft 2bbl but otherwise appears to be stock..it does have the usual oil seeps and drips that are common with this era of Jeep.

The low geared BW T18 trans and Dana 300 t-case were converted by a previous owner and work fine..clutch hooks good with no chatter. Has add-a-leaves and Confer spring shackles. The rest of the running gear is stock as far as I have found. 3.73 open diffs. Also has winch mount on front.

The interior is good driver quality..Front driver seat has been taped on the edge..passenger seats are good with all seat belts still intact..has lockable aftermarket steel center console w/AM-FM CD Stereo mounted in it..all gages work. Carpet is worn and stained, but ok for daily driving.

Has original chrome Jeep Wagon Wheels(incl spare)and 33-12.50-15 tires that are only about 20%..Also comes with a set of 4 BFG AT's that are 32/11.50/15's mounted on black spoke wheels, the tires are about 20% also.

It was involved in a collision in California in 1991 and has been on a salvage title ever since according to Car Fax..I was not the owner at that time,so am not sure how much damage was done, but I do know it runs and drives great/straight! I've had it up to 65mph and it drove as good and stable as any other CJ I've owned! Can't honestly tell what if any body panels were replaced at the time and the frame and frame horns look great and undamaged.

The odometer reads 30000 miles, but I believe that to be 130000 since there is no sixth digit..In Idaho anything that is over 10yrs old is considered exempt on the miles.

Please call 208-965-0664(NO TEXTS!)with any questions..Pre-purchase inspections are encouraged and welcomed..please call with questions and assume nothing!

This Jeep CJ is a solid unrestored project/daily driver, not restored or perfect!!

Jeep can be stored for up to 60 days at no additional charge after purchase and payment is complete..can also assist with shipping options and loading on this end.  Thanks!

Best and worst car brands of 2022 according to Consumer Reports

Thu, Feb 17 2022

It's that time again, Consumer Reports this morning lifting the curtain on its 2022 Annual Car Brand rankings and its 10 Top Picks in the car, crossover, and truck category. Drumroll, please: This year, Subaru climbs two spots to claim the winner's circle, having come third the last two years. Last year, Mazda climbed three spots from 2020 to take the crown. This year, Mazda slipped to second, BMW taking the last spot on the podium, also a one-spot drop from 2021. Six automakers in the top 10 hailed from Japan, which is one more than last year, and five luxury makers occupied the top 10, which is two more than last year. And South Korean representation didn't crack the top this year, after Hyundai managed tenth last year. The seven makes after BMW are: Honda, Lexus, Audi, Porsche, Mini, Toyota, and Infiniti.  The magazine and testing concern says its Brand Report Card "[reveals] which automakers are producing the most well-performing, safe, and reliable vehicles based on CR’s independent testing and member surveys," and that "Brands that rise to the top tend to have the most consistent performance across their model lineups." The domestics also took steps back among the 32 OEMs ranked on the 2022 card. Chrysler and Buick were the domestic carmakers who made last year's top 10 in eighth and ninth, respectively. This year, Buick dropped to eleventh, Chrysler to thirteenth. Dodge went from fourteenth to sixteenth. CR continues to ding Tesla's yoke steerer, the not-exactly-natural handhold responsible for the electric carmaker going from sixteenth last year to twenty-third this year.

Jeep rocks the Wrangler Red Rock concept in Vegas [w/video]

Thu, Nov 5 2015

The SEMA show may have once been all about dropping rides to the floor, but these days it's at least as much about jacking them up on lifted suspensions. And few show cars – or trucks, we should say – managed to embody that spirit at this year's tuner exposition quite as well as the Jeep Wrangler Red Rock you see here. The concept started out life as a Wrangler Unlimited, but instead of four doors, it has none. Or any roof, for that matter. Just a roll cage and a windscreen. What it does have are 17-inch wheels wearing 35-inch BF Goodrich tires and fitted to a suspension lifted by two inches. It also has a reinforced tailgate, power winch, tow hooks... everything, in short, that you could want or need for off-roading, and little more. As you can see, it also looks the business, with a custom hood, body-color grille, matte-finish bumpers, and a brown leather interior. Handsome as it is, though, its rugged beauty runs more than skin deep: lift off the sheetmetal and you'd find electronic locking differentials, a transfer case, and solid axles fore and aft. A more extreme take on the existing Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon Hard Rock edition, the Red Rock show truck was done up to honor the organization behind the Easter Jeep Safari that's a favorite among the legions of the Jeep faithful. And while it remains a concept only for the time being, a production version is slated to follow in time to celebrate the event's 50th anniversary next year. Related Video:

2018 Jeep Wrangler to get 8-speed auto

Mon, Nov 24 2014

Remember when the Jeep Wrangler had a three-speed automatic? That wasn't that long ago – as recent as the 2007 redesign – but Chrysler is keen to leave those days behind on the dusty trail. The current model ushered in a four-speed, then a five-speed, but the latest intel indicates that an eight-speed automatic is in the cards. According to a report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, and cited by Automotive News, Jeep plans on fitting its eight-speed automatic transmission to the next-generation Wrangler. Chrysler already uses the ZF-sourced slushbox on the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ram 1500, Chrysler 300, and versions of the Dodge Challenger, Charger and Durango. But according to the SEC filing, the Auburn Hills automaker intends "to use this transmission in all of our rear-wheel-drive vehicles, except for heavy-duty versions of the Ram pick-up truck and the SRT Viper." AN says that Chrysler wanted to slot the transmission straight into the current Wrangler, but it wouldn't fit. Between the transmission and shift to aluminum construction, the next-generation Wrangler promises to deliver a significant reduction in fuel consumption. In correspondence with Autoblog, however, company spokesmen declined to comment on the eight-speed's suitability towards either the current Wrangler or the upcoming one.
