1979 Renegade CJ5 Silver anniverasy edition jeep.My wife and i bought this with plans to take to the mountains but have dicided it is too hard to get in and out of,and too low geared for highway driving. We have made several improvments since we bought it about a year ago.New paint, front shocks, rear brake shoes, exhaust, spray on liner inside tub,u-joints in rear drive shaft, seal in rear yoke. The soft top was fairly new and is in great shape. There was small amount of rust thru in floor(sandblasted and filled before liner was applied). The only other rust was in the reinforcment panels on both front fenders(replaced metal on passenger side and filled drivers). All together a good solid jeep for its age.The 304 AMC V8 runs good and strong, but does smoke on start up then stops(probably valve guides worn) it also has small oil leak at rear seal.It also has small powersteering leak at hose or gearbox.Tires are fair. The 3 speed manual trans shifts fine and seems to work like it should. The four wheel drive works as far as i can tell,i locked in the front hubs and it seemed to engage fine.Has body lift kit has been lifted about 2 inches and the rear shackles are about 2 inches longer than stock.I have this vehicle for sale locally and reserve the right to end the auction early.

Federal investigations about safety of rear-mounted gas tanks is nothing new

Sun, 09 Jun 2013

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Chrysler are currently making waves in our daily news feeds due to a disagreement over the safety of a few million Jeep Liberty and Grand Cherokee models. Specifically, NHTSA has asked Chrysler to recall the SUVs because of the location of their fuel tanks, but you may be interested to know that requests such as this are nothing new.
Besides the two Jeep models, NHTSA has launched investigations over the years in such models as the Ford Crown Victoria (and its police-car counterpart), GM pickups built between 1972 and 1987, and rather famously the Ford Pinto.
Understanding how automakers and NHTSA have dealt with fuel-tank-safety concerns in the past may offer a better understanding of how Chrysler and the government agency will settle their current dispute. Check out the complete article from The Detroit News here.

Watch this 9-year-old drive Jeep Wrangler off-road [w/poll]

Wed, 28 May 2014

This nine-year-old girl might be better at rock crawling than some people twice her age. But is it worth putting her in danger to do it? According to her father on the Jeep Experience Facebook page, her name is Faith, and she has been offroading with her family since she was two. At nine years old, she's now driving her dad's Jeep over the rocks by herself.
As you can see she's belted in and under her father's direct supervision and guidance. She shows immense confidence for someone her age and follows her dad's instructions on exactly what to do. Although, this could still be a very dangerous situation if something went wrong.
Previously, we saw a similar video with a six-year-old on a motorcycle driving on public roads through the desert. Voters decided by only a six-point margin that the adult should be in trouble for letting the kid ride the bike. Here, we have a slightly older child driving a vehicle off road. Where do you fall in this case? Is it still wrong to hand over control to a child? Let us know in the poll below and scroll down to watch the video.

Fiat 500X poised for Paris catwalk

Wed, 05 Feb 2014

We've known for some time that the new, Fiat-based baby Jeep (which may or may not be called the Jeepster) is set to arrive at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. What we weren't sure of was whether its platform mate, the so-called Fiat 500X, would be doing so alongside or at a later date. Well, according to Reuters, we'll get to see the first all-wheel-drive 500 later this year in the City of Lights.
Yes, we can expect the 500X to arrive at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, according to an official with an Italian trade union. The unnamed source cited retooling at Fiat's Melfi factory, in southern Italy, which currently produces the Grande Punto. It's expected that the newest member of the growing 500 family will replace the Suzuki SX4-based Fiat Sedici, although when the X will go on sale remains an open question.
According to Reuters, both the Jeepster and 500X will be built alongside each other in Italy. Whether the 500X will cross the pond with it's slat-grilled cousin, though, remains to be seen (we're leaning towards yes).
