I remember having to get out and lock hubs and shift into neutral to engage low range.
Coming off press previews of the 2013 Land Rover Range Rover and the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee that involved some heavy-duty off-road rock climbing, I'm simply amazed at the capabilities that these vehicles possess. But even more impressive (or troubling depending on your perspective) is the relative ease with which you can operate these vehicles in seemingly impossible terrain.

The last Editors' Picks collection of 2022 consists of picks from three different segments. We recently got our first shot at the 2023 Genesis G90, which instantly found a warm place in our heart. Plus, a couple of favorites from years past came through. Look out for even more ratings come the new year as a ton of fresh metal comes onto the market. Tons of totally new EVs and sports cars may have hit the streets in 2022, but there are even more new and exciting cars coming. It rides beautifully, features a tech-forward but still usable interior and even has a powerful and refined powertrain. Score: 8.5 What it competes with: Lexus LS 500, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8 Pros: Gorgeous design, efficient and powerful powertrain, super-luxurious interior, great value Cons: Doesn't handle as well as competitors From the editors: Road Test Editor Zac Palmer — "The Genesis G90 is all-new for 2023, and what a stupendous luxury sedan it is. The mild-hybrid twin-turbo V6 powertrain is smooth and powerful for effortless acceleration. Its air suspension and electronically controlled dampers waft you over poor pavement with nary a cabin disturbance. Every last luxury you might want for is present from auto-opening doors, massaging seats and rear wheel steering. It's all there for a price that is shockingly low versus the leading German luxury sedans, making it all the more impressive." Jeep Renegade to show off new Mopar gear in Detroit

Jeep's adorable new Renegade is arriving in the US market soon (we're looking forward to driving it in a couple weeks), and to highlight that fact, the American off-road brand is trotting out a pair of Mopar-modified compact CUVs for the 2015 North American International Auto Show. Rather simply, Jeep has modified one Renegade to show off its prowess in the city, and another that plays up the crossover's off-road abilities. Despite their different purposes, both vehicles show off Mopar's parts catalog and Jeep's Authentic Accessories lineup for the new baby Jeep. The Urban Renegade borrows uses a Renegade Limited with Anvil paint as its base and draws from the Accessories catalog, adding a number of Omaha orange accents and satin black wheels. Mopar donated a bike-hauling trailer hitch to the rear of the Renegade, while its cabin features Katzkin leather-lined seats. Once again, Omaha orange accents brighten up the Limited's cabin. As for the off-road model, Mopar got a bit more involved, starting with the Renegade Trailhawk and adding satin black wheels with Colorado red trim and X-shaped graphics, borrowed from military jerry cans, to the Commando Green exterior. A number of prototype and one-off body mods were fitted to the Trailhawk, including a concept skid plate, rock rails and a new rear valence. Inside, Katzkin leather was applied to the Renegade's seats while the Omaha orange accents from the Urban Renegade have been replaced with Commando Green bits and bobs in the off-road model.
