This is an amazing two owner Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8.  It was originally owned by a woman in California and then I bought it from a dealer down there and sold to a friend of mine in town here.  He owned it for less than a year but decided it didn't fit his needs as well as he had hoped.  He intended to drive it year round but decided that it was too nice of a vehicle to drive in Montana winters and then purchased an older Chevrolet pickup to drive during the winter.  The Chevrolet broke down on him on the highway here a month or two ago and he decided that it didn't make any sense to have an unreliable older vehicle for the months that you need a very reliable vehicle up here.  He traded both vehicles off on a four door Dodge Ram 1500.

My friend is meticulous with his vehicles.  He purchased the vehicle when it had 40000 miles on it and he wasn't positive if she had done all the maintenence to it that is required at 30,000 miles so he had my dealership (a Jeep dealer) do all the required work.  He had the oil changed (with 0/40 synthetic Mobil), front and rear axle fluids, transfer case fluid and spark plugs all done on 5/16/2013 when the vehicle had 40033 miles.  He had the oil changed again and the transmission fluid and filter replaced on 8/15/2013 when the vehicle had 43187 miles. We used all Mopar recommended parts and fluids that are required for the SRT vehicle.  He just put on new Toyo Proxes tires all the way around and they have under 1,500 miles on them.  He installed a Mopar Cold Air intake during the summer as well.  He only drove it once or twice in bad weather and decided he didn't want to subject it to it.

The only bad thing on the whole vehicle is on the liftgate the first owner had a cell phone antenna installed and drilled a hole in the panel.  My friend removed the antenna and installed the Mopar emblem to cover it up.

If this Jeep isn't one of a kind it's one of very few, it sounds great, the interior is immaculate, and the attention to detail the second owner gave to the vehicle is impossible to miss.  This vehicle was his baby and you can tell the second you look at it.

Australian Jeep marketing stunt goes awry [w/video]

Tue, 15 Jul 2014

Jeep fans in Australia are none too happy with the off-road brand following a contest that saw ten new Cherokees sold for just $10,000 Australian (about $9,400), roughly a quarter of the vehicle's price Down Under.
The contest, called the "World's Most Remote Dealership," gave Aussies the chance to snag an ultra-affordable Cherokee Longitude (analogous to the US-spec Latitude trim), provided they could get to a secret dealership in the remote wilderness of western New South Wales, near the border with the state of South Australia.
In order to get the exact location of the dealership, though, potential customers needed to download an app, which would release a phone number 9:00 AM AEST on Thursday (7:00 PM EDT, Wednesday night). The first ten people who could call in and prove they could afford to finance $10,000 and get to the remote dealership, were given the location of the remote dealership.

Jeep mulling power top for next Wrangler

Fri, 07 Mar 2014

Jeep is hard at work on the next-generation Wrangler, though the truck is still a few years from hitting the trails. The new model will still be aimed at off-roaders, but rumors suggest it will be a little more comfortable than previous versions to appeal to more people.
According to Road and Track, Jeep is developing a power-retractable top as an expensive option for the Wrangler. There is no word if the top in question is a sliding canvas rollback like the ones found on many European vehicles or a full convertible hardtop or softtop, nor do we know whether it would be made available on two- or four-door models. It might be a nice feature for some buyers but would certainly add complexity to a truck already known for its ruggedness. We asked Jeep for confirmation, but Jeep spokesperson Todd Goyer could only remind us that the company "can't comment about future products."
In news that is likely to irk the faithful, R&T reports the next model may also ditch its folding windshield for improved safety and possibly even get rid of its rear-mounted, full-size spare tire. The new Wrangler won't go completely soft, though, and will reportedly still feature removable doors and solid axles.

China orders Jeep to investigate Wrangler fire risk

Mon, 06 Jan 2014

It's been some time since we've heard anything about fires related to the Jeep Wrangler (foreign or domestic), but it sounds like the go-anywhere SUV could be in hot water once again in China. Bloomberg is reporting that the Chinese government is ordering Jeep to investigate the matter and, in the meantime, also recommending Wrangler owners to not drive their vehicles in "extreme conditions" due to a "relatively high risk" of catching on fire.
There is no indication as to how many vehicles or which model years are affected, but the previous fire problems in both the US and China - which led to investigations but no recalls - were traced back to automatic transmission fluid leaks. The article, however, does not say what the potential problem is this time around as Jeep has not released a comment on the matter. The official notice, in Chinese, can be found here.
