IT'S A JEEP THING!
You are looking at a great looking 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo Special Edition which is just like the limited with painted body molding, leather power heated seats, infinity stereo, power sunroof, alloy wheels, 5.2L V8, Quadratrac full-time 4x4, keyless entry, power windows, locks, mirrors, cold a/c, and towing package! This is a used vehicle and you should expect wear and tear consistant with a 1998 model. I will go into detail on the condition, but over all this is a good running, driving, looking Jeep SUV.
The exterior of this Jeep, as you can see, is very nice. It has a nice deep black paint, that still shines like it should, it has dings and scratches, but nothing out of charachter for a 1998. I would say this Jeep looks better than most it's age and miles. The only bad spot is on the passenger rocker, there is a rust hole. The rest of the body is clean, way less than the typical rust for a northern truck, insides of the doors are clean, rest of the rockers are clean, very sharp good looking truck. The wheels are in good shape.
The interior is also a little nicer than you might expect for this year vehicle. The leather is really nice with the only extra wear on the drivers back bolster where you get in and out, you can barely see it, very minimal. The floors are clean, and the headliner is drooping over both front doors, about 3" per side long, and just barely hanging, could probably be easily glued back up. The rest of it is good. The dash is clean, no cracks. This truck is very clean, but could probably look even better with a professional detail. The windows all work, and the glass is in good shape, no cracks.
Now to the mechanical. This is a strong running V8 engine. It sounds great, doesn't knock, tick, or smoke. No check engine light. The transmission shifts great, goes through all the gears, and feels tight. This truck does have the typical Jeep rear-end whine. I've had alot of these, and every one has done it, everyone I know who has one does it, and they tend to go for years and years with no problem, other than the noise, but I don't want any suprises for anyone so there it is. The truck goes down the road nicely, I'm not going to lie and say it drives brand new, it is a 98, and I'm sure it could probably use an alignment, maybe a tie-rod end or something minor, but I wouldn't be afraid to drive this anywhere, I just took it on a 200 mile round trip yesterday, and didn't have any issues. The tires are very good, with deep tread, they may have 20,000 miles on them. You won't have to buy new tires for a while on this one. The brakes stop good, no pulse. This is one of the few trucks this age that I would take on a long trip, feel free to drive this back home as far as you need to, it's a solid Jeep.
So those are the details. Again, please be reasonable in your expectations for a 1998, inexpensive SUV. Look at the pictures and feel free to ask questions. I think this is a great truck, and will make someone a nice daily driver, winter 4x4, or someone could jack it up and have some fun with it. I'm selling it no reserve, so you set the price. Tell me what you want to pay, then come and get it. I have a clean title in hand, and will give you a bill of sale if you are out of state. If you are a Michigan resident I will need to collect sales tax, and state fees. This does have a clean car fax. Shipping is up to you, but I will help as much as I can.
Thanks for looking and Good Luck!

Chrysler accelerates Jeep recall repairs from 2018 to March
Thu, 17 Jul 2014
You may remember that Jeep's unusual fix for this recall involves fitting a trailer hitch.
The recall of about 1.5 million models of the 2002-2007 Jeep Liberty and 1993-1998 Grand Cherokee over fuel tanks may finish far sooner than originally estimated. In a new filing from Jeep's parent, Chrysler Group, with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the company says that it can complete the repairs for the affected vehicles by March 2015, much sooner than the previous estimate of sometime in 2018. Jeep predicts the total cost of the campaign will be around $151 million.
Jeep Renegade configurator switches on
Fri, Jan 30 2015Less than a week after letting loose with pricing information for its 2015 Renegade, Jeep has powered up the configurator for its new compact CUV, giving us our first complete look at pricing for the model's healthy options catalog. If you've messed around with any of FCA's other online configurators, the Renegade's will be immediately familiar. Pick a trim, interior and exterior color, optional extras and packages, and you're done. Of course, we don't write these posts just to let you know about a configurator going live. We do them because it gives us an excuse to mess about with all the different varieties of a new model, and, on occasion, to build something surprisingly expensive or cheap, just to see if it can be done. The Renegade certainly has no issues when it comes to the former. If you want the priciest model, you'll need the $25,995 Trailhawk, which can be priced up to $33,330. We got to that figure by adding the $1,495 Trailhawk Premium Group (heated, powered leather seats, dual-zone climate control, heated steering wheel, 40/20/40 split-rear seats), the $595 Safety and Security Group I (blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic assist and an alarm), the $395 Trailer Tow Group, the $1,395 powered MySky system, a $150 hood decal (which might mean that you can get a Trailhawk without a black stripe), a $1,295 navigation system with satellite radio, a $495 nine-speaker stereo, a $295 push-button starter, a $200 remote starter and a $75 tonneau cover. Will you need all of those options? Not really. But many of them would certainly fall into the "must-have" category for customers. Head over to Jeep's consumer page and mess about with the configurator, and let us know what you think of the full pricing (and what your ideal spec looks like!) in Comments. Related Video:
NHTSA closes book on Jeep 'trailer hitch' recall after all
Mon, 20 Jan 2014After much debating and hand-wringing, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration now says it has "no reservations" with Chrysler's plan to recall certain Jeep Liberty and Grand Cherokee models over concerns that their fuel tanks, which are located behind the rear axle, could rupture or leak in the event of a rear impact. The longstanding argument between the two entities saw Chrysler openly defy the Feds after a request to recall 2.7 million units back in June.
Chrysler's "voluntary campaign" will instead see it recall 1.56-million 1993-2004 model year Grand Cherokee SUVs, along with 2002-2007 Liberty models. Affected vehicles will get a trailer hitch installed free of charge, which Chrysler says will provide an additional degree of protection for the fuel tanks in the event of a crash. Jeeps with Mopar-branded hitches or hitches that were installed at the factory aren't affected by this recall.
Chrysler's argument throughout this battle has been that the Jeeps in question are no more susceptible to fires than comparable vehicles from the same time period, a position that NHTSA has seemingly arrived at as well. "Those vehicles performed at a rate similar to their peers. That is the keystone analysis as to whether something poses an unreasonable risk to safety," said outgoing NHTSA boss David Strickland during an interview with the The Associated Press.
