1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited Sport Utility 4-door 5.9l on 2040-cars
United States
Jeep made about 15,000 of these vehicles during 1998 - and only during 1998. They sported a 5.9 liter V8 engine generating 245 horsepower and 345 foot-pounds of torque. They were the fastest SUV on the road that year. The 5.9 is still considered among the "best of the best" versions of Jeep ever made and is a collectible. The 5.9 was finished in only three exterior colors: white enamel, metallic gray and black metallic. Until very recently I owned all three (part of my collection). I just sold the 300,000+ mile gray one (owned since new) to my nephew. He loves it. I have the black and also the white one available for immediate purchase. (See my other EBay listing for the black one). I love these beasts but we are moving offshore. There's nowhere to store them for a long period of time that wouldn't cost a fortune. They should go to a good home - someone who understands their value and will take good care of them. This particular vehicle is non-modified (all factory original) outfitted with 5 Goodyear Wrangler HP tires with about 35% wear (this is the original tire that was mounted on the rim of this car from the factory). The air conditioning system is new OEM and works perfectly (cost about $2000 to replace). New shocks, brake pads and rotors were installed within the past 9 months. The vehicle is in excellent mechanical shape and has no cosmetic issues and zero rust. All fluids have been replaced on a regular basis. The vehicle is fully functional - including the ABS system, sunroof, Infinity radio, electric door locks, heated seats and gas sending unit in the gas tank. (I like cars that work). It has an OEM tow package. It even has OEM rubber floor mats and a rare cup holder insert! An American classic. I will sell both Jeeps on a package deal basis for $11,500.00 - and throw in a set of 4 extra OEM rims and a front and rear bumper. First come, first served. Or feel free to bid for only one of them. They are both in great shape and fun to drive. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. Leave a phone number where I can reach you. The photo shown in this ad is a stock photo. I will add pictures shortly. |

Marchionne may stay with FCA until 2020
Mon, Aug 31 2015We might get to see Sergio Marchionne and his vast array of sweaters in the auto industry for even longer than expected. The FCA CEO suggested last year that he would retire from the automaker when its current five-year plan was complete in 2018. Now, he has tentatively extended that point out to at least 2020. "I can do this for another five years if you push me, right? Beyond that, I ain't gonna do it, and I don't want to," he said to Automotive News. That would give Marchionne a 16-year career at the top from joining Fiat in 2004 to possibly leaving FCA in 2020. Although, take the CEO's statement with a grain of salt because he has made multiple statements about the timing for his retirement. In 2012, Marchionne said he would only remain in charge until 2015, which is, well, now. Those five years might also go quite quickly because Marchionne is a busy guy with the Ferrari IPO, the attempted merger with General Motors, implementing FCA's five-year plan, and many other projects. He's already considering the next CEO, though. "My purpose in life is to find the Kuniskises of the world, the Manleys, the Biglands, the Palmers," Marchionne said to Automotive News, referencing the heads at Dodge, Jeep, FCA North America, and the company's chief financial officer, respectively. "I told them, 'One of you is going to do what I do one day. I don't know who that is, but one of you is going to do it.'" Chrysler Recalls 350K Vehicles To Fix Ignition Switches
Thu, Sep 25 2014Chrysler is recalling nearly 350,000 cars and SUVs to fix ignition switches that could unexpectedly shut off the engines. The recall covers 2008 Jeep Commander and Grand Cherokee SUVs, Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger sedans, and Dodge Magnum wagons. All were built before May 12, 2008. Chrysler says the ignitions may not fully return to the "on" position after being started. The switches could move to "accessory" or "off." That could shut off the engine and knock out power-assisted steering and other features. Chrysler knows of one crash and no injuries from the problem. It's telling people to use the key alone in the ignition and confirm that switches have returned to "on" after starting their cars. Chrysler is investigating the cause. Customers will be notified when repairs are ready. Related Gallery The Trucks And SUVs Consumers Are Liking Most View 11 Photos
EV cost burden pushing automakers to their limits, says Stellantis' CEO Tavares
Wed, Dec 1 2021DETROIT — Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares said external pressure on automakers to quickly shift to electric vehicles potentially threatens jobs and vehicle quality as producers struggle with EVs' higher costs. Governments and investors want car manufacturers to speed up the transition to electric vehicles, but the costs are "beyond the limits" of what the auto industry can sustain, Tavares said in an interview at the Reuters Next conference released Wednesday. "What has been decided is to impose on the automotive industry electrification that brings 50% additional costs against a conventional vehicle," he said. "There is no way we can transfer 50% of additional costs to the final consumer because most parts of the middle class will not be able to pay." Automakers could charge higher prices and sell fewer cars, or accept lower profit margins, Tavares said. Those paths both lead to cutbacks. Union leaders in Europe and North America have warned tens of thousands of jobs could be lost. Automakers need time for testing and ensuring that new technology will work, Tavares said. Pushing to speed that process up "is just going to be counter productive. It will lead to quality problems. It will lead to all sorts of problems," he said. Tavares said Stellantis is aiming to avoid cuts by boosting productivity at a pace far faster than industry norm. "Over the next five years we have to digest 10% productivity a year ... in an industry which is used to delivering 2 to 3% productivity" improvement, he said. "The future will tell us who is going to be able to digest this, and who will fail," Tavares said. "We are putting the industry on the limits." Electric vehicle costs are expected to fall, and analysts project that battery electric vehicles and combustion vehicles could reach cost parity during the second half of this decade. Like other automakers that earn profits from combustion vehicles, Stellantis is under pressure from both establishment automakers such as GM, Ford, VW and Hyundai, as well as start-ups such as Tesla and Rivian. The latter electric vehicle companies are far smaller in terms of vehicle sales and employment. But investors have given Tesla and Rivian higher market valuations than the owner of the highly profitable Jeep and Ram brands. That investor pressure is compounded by government policies aimed at cutting greenhouse gas emissions. The European Union, California and other jurisdictions have set goals to end sales of combustion vehicles by 2035.
