1998 Grand Jeep Cherokee Ltd, 159k, Raleigh, Nc on 2040-cars
Raleigh, North Carolina, United States
This is going to be a bit long, but it's obviously it's important that you read the whole thing, because you are buying a car over the internet. That being said, I have a long history of selling on eBay and a stellar feedback rating and I want to be as open and honest about the condition of this vehicle as I can be. So let me answer a few questions first.
Why am I selling this vehicle? Because my brother gave me his car. It's a ten year old Toyota, but that's an upgrade from a 16 year old Jeep Cherokee. Is there anything major wrong with the vehicle? Not that I know of. That's not without some pain in the past on my part which I will go into below. There are no engine lights and I wouldn't try to reset them. What is the history of the vehicle? My stepfather bought it new in 1998. He gave it to me about two years ago. It's a two owner vehicle. So, let's talk about the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It's a 4.0 straight 6, has some good power, but it is 2WD/RWD. You know the snowpocalypse Raleigh went through a few weeks ago? This Jeep is not a snow-and-ice vehicle. Luckily, not much bad weather here, but keep that in mind. Not great gas mileage, but a 20 gallon tank. Recently, there was a recall on this vehicle because some customers claimed that the vehicle exploded upon rear impact. It was a contentious debate, but Jeep settled and offered owners a free towing package. It's not been finalized yet, but when I transfer the title to you, you will be eligible for that upgrade. I will give you the last documentation available. What SHOULD have been a recall was the ECM unit for this vehicle. The computer underperformed/spit out false engine codes and it ended up costing me a lot of money in repairs, all emission related. I was able to convince my mechanic to replace the computer after reading up on Jeep forums about this common problem, and I haven't had the problem since. But you, you get a new catalytic converter, muffler, O2 sensor, and of course the ECM. So if you know of this problem, be assured it's gone. Last year I replaced the spark plugs, cables, and rotor cap. There's also a new thermostat (still not sure if it was a false error code from that damn ECM, but who cares? It's new). I did the front brakes last fall (should have put some brake quiet on them, they grab a bit) and bought the rear brakes (but haven't installed them. I'll give them to you). Tires are two years old (front), six months old (back), so good tread all around. Transmission seems fine, shifts ok, haven't lost any fluid. Engine doesn't burn oil. There's a pinhole leak in the radiator (my mechanic told me), but it's so small I just put some coolant in the overflow every couple of months. If that overflow tank gets low the car will give you a warning. Is it worth it to fix? Up to you but I've used less than two gallons in two years. Miles are low for an older vehicle. The stereo's been replaced, which is way better. There's an iPod/iPhone (4S and before) connector in the glove box (I know, not convenient, but my stepfather used it for an iPod back in the day) and it's got a USB thumb drive on the unit. There's a power amp under the passenger seat behind the driver. The body's okay. No rust. No major dents, but nicks here and there. One scrape (passenger side) is recent. During that snowstorm I mentioned above, unable to get over the icy hills here in Raleigh, I was smart enough to park it under a bridge and walk a couple of miles home. When I returned the next day, I found someone had taken my passenger side mirror off so had to secure it. Wouldn't be too bad but I had replaced them after someone took my driver side mirror off in a Target parking lot last year. About those mirrors. They're heated, and that's nice when things freeze. But Jeep calibrates the two key fobs tailored to individual drivers. It's supposed to be so a husband and wife can unlock the car with different remotes and the mirrors will automatically adjust. But instead, they seem to randomly move when you unlock the vehicle. The passenger side rear door is choosy when it wants to unlock with the remote. You can manually unlock it by reaching around, and it locks fine with the remote. It was never an issue for me, but if you have two child seats in the back you may not want this vehicle. Recapping: Better than it should be *Newish tires *New brakes on the front *New catalytic converter and O2 sensor *New muffler *New thermostat *Stereo with iPhone connector Not so great *Mirrors misadjust *Rear passenger door doesn't unlock with remote Buyer can schedule an appointment to look at the vehicle if they are in the area. Pickup is the responsibility of the buyer. $500 deposit required within 48 hours of auction end; cashier's check or money order for the total due within seven days. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. No reserve, highest bid takes it. |

Jeep Begins Fixing 1.56 Million Recalled Grand Cherokee, Liberty SUVs
Tue, Jan 14 2014Chrysler is just now beginning the big job of fixing 1.56 million older Jeep SUVs seven months after a recall was announced, according to The Detroit News. Jeep Grand Cherokees sold between 1992 and 1998 and Jeep Liberty models sold between 2002 and 2007 are being recalled because the gas tank can leak in the event of a rear-end collision, leading to a fire. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration originally requested the recall of 2.7 million vehicles. Chrysler initially disputed NHTSA's findings and seemed willing to go through a court battle until an 11th-hour deal reduced the number of vehicles involved in the recall. The remaining vehicle owners left out of the recall will receive a "customer service action" notification and may not get fixed. Chrysler says the vehicles are safe and need no repairs. Fixing the 1.56 million Jeeps will cost Chrysler $151 million. NHTSA cited 51 deaths causes by such tank fires. Chrysler plans to install protective trailer hitches to protect the gas tanks, but even the automaker admits the hitches will only provide incremental protection in a low-to-moderate speed rear-end crash. Ford F-Series Super Duty earns Truck of Texas award
Wed, Oct 12 2016Texans love their pickup trucks, which you already knew. That means the Texas Auto Writers Association and its "Truck of Texas" award is a big deal. And the latest trophy goes to the 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty. The pickup truck managed to snag TAWA's award at the 2016 Texas Truck Rodeo. The award marks the 13th time Ford's F-Series has been named the pickup king of the Lone Star State. Roughly 70 journalists converged outside at the Longhorn River Ranch, just outside of Austin, TX, for the 23rd annual Texas Truck Rodeo where a host of Ford's vehicles won awards. In addition to the F-Series Super Duty being named the "Truck of Texas," the 2017 Ford Super Duty won the Heavy Duty Pickup Truck award, while the 2017 Ford F-150 with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine won the Best Powertrain award. The journalists also awarded Ford for having the "Truck Line of Texas." Ford wasn't the only winner at the Texas Truck Rodeo, as Nissan brought home five awards, including one for the 2017 Titan in the fullsize pickup category and one for the Armada in the SUV segment. Ram also won a few accolades with its trucks. The 2017 Ram 1500 won for being the most luxurious pickup truck, while the 2017 Ram 2500 Power Wagon won the off-road pickup truck award. Last year, TAWA named the 2016 Nissan Titan XD the Truck of Texas, but Ford's all-new F-Series Super Duty managed to keep the Japanese automaker's full-size offering at bay. For the 2017 model, Ford placed aluminum body panels into the F-Series Super Duty's body, which not only shed weight, but also make the truck stronger. Scroll down to see the entire list of TAWA's winners from the 2016 Texas Truck Rodeo.
