2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee recalled for wiring harness
Sat, May 14 2016The Basics: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling an estimated 32,267 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee models in the US over a wiring harness terminal that can lose its electrical connection. The Problem: An improperly crimped wiring harness may cause the vehicle's shifter to become locked in Park or Neutral once the vehicle is brought to a stop. Injuries/Deaths: None that FCA is aware of. If you own one: FCA suggests owners use their parking brakes when exiting the vehicle. Affected customers will be notified when they may schedule service. More information: An additional 2,095 vehicles in Canada, 538 in Mexico, and 2,472 outside the NAFTA region are also affected by this recall. Questions? Auto critic calls out Corvette, Mustang and Cherokee faithful
Mon, 26 Aug 2013Most automotive purists fear change, but not without reason. Change, after all, did kill big-block V8s, along with most station wagons and manual transmissions. But change has also brought with it far more performance, safety and fuel economy - not to mention ridding the world of shag carpet interiors, bias-ply tires and those horrible motorized seatbelts of the early '90s.
By this time next year, the Chevy Corvette, Jeep Cherokee and next-generation Ford Mustang will all be on sale and will all, in some way, have angered or offended purists. To those critics, Mark Phelan of the Detroit Free Press is preemptively telling them to stop complaining - at least until they've all been driven. From the Corvette's square taillights and the Cherokee's radical nose to whatever pony car purists will harp on the 2015 Mustang for, Phelan's column points out the positives of automotive evolution and the negatives of staying the course for too long. China orders Jeep to investigate Wrangler fire risk
Mon, 06 Jan 2014It's been some time since we've heard anything about fires related to the Jeep Wrangler (foreign or domestic), but it sounds like the go-anywhere SUV could be in hot water once again in China. Bloomberg is reporting that the Chinese government is ordering Jeep to investigate the matter and, in the meantime, also recommending Wrangler owners to not drive their vehicles in "extreme conditions" due to a "relatively high risk" of catching on fire.
There is no indication as to how many vehicles or which model years are affected, but the previous fire problems in both the US and China - which led to investigations but no recalls - were traced back to automatic transmission fluid leaks. The article, however, does not say what the potential problem is this time around as Jeep has not released a comment on the matter. The official notice, in Chinese, can be found here.
