1973 Jeep Commando Automatic 4wd Soft Top on 2040-cars
Cary, North Carolina, United States
This is a newly-restored 1973 Jeep Commando. These are super rare and this one is the last year these were made. The engine is a reliable, peppy inline 6cyl 4.2L 258ci , with a rare 3 speed Automatic (yes, automatic!) with a strong and properly working Dana 20 4WD transfer case/shifter that's as smooth as glass. Newer Carter carb, new tires, new "dog dish" hubcaps, brand new custom professionally done seats, door panels and dash. New Rhino lined floor, new muffler, coil, new intake manifold.
It's one of a kind: The soft top just re-dyed in white that rolls up on the sides and back or removes completely for those nice sunny days.
This is just a COOL vehicle and great around-town transportation. Anywhere you go -- it's a real head-turner. These are as popular but easier to drive and service than the Scout II, Chevy Blazer or Ford Bronco, and certainly more unique. And it's a Jeep!
Runs like a top, and is a 4WD that works perfectly with all new Mile Marker locking hubs. Everything works including the speedometer. I have all current receipts. I also have its ENTIRE history from the DMV -- all the way back to its original sale in February of 1973 to a family near Winston-Salem, NC. This is a very clean and rock-solid vehicle that will surely keep its value. I am selling locally and on other forums so I reserve the right to remove this ad at any time.

Next-gen Jeep Wrangler to pack 300-hp Hurricane turbo four
Mon, May 9 2016Fiat Chrysler has been working for some time now on a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Dubbed "Hurricane," the engine is now said to produce nearly 300 horsepower. And its first application could be in the next-generation Jeep Wrangler. With that much power coming from such a small engine, the Hurricane would offer an even higher level of specific output than the 1.75-liter engine in the Alfa Romeo 4C – one of FCA's highest-stressed engines – far eclipsing the 4C's 120 horsepower per liter with 150 hp/l. By way of comparison, the latest 2.0-liter, four-cylinder version of Ford's EcoBoost engine produces "only" 245 hp (122.5 hp/l). The 2.0-liter turbo four in the latest Mercedes-AMG CLA45 and GLA45, however, produces 375 hp. To get so much out of so little an engine, FCA will utilize a twin-scroll turbocharger and variable valve timing. That could make it ideally suited towards a compact performance model, but according to Automotive News, its first application could be in the new the Wrangler. The larger 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 produces 285 hp, nearly as much as the Hurricane will. But with a smaller engine, an eight-speed transmission, and aluminum construction, the new Jeep will likely benefit from dramatically-improved fuel consumption. Related Video:
EPA suspected Fiat Chrysler of using 'defeat device' in 2015
Sat, Jun 17 2017U.S. regulators told Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in November 2015 that they suspected some of the automaker's vehicles were equipped with secret software allowing them to violate emission control standards, according to emails disclosed on Friday. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and California Air Resources Board accused Fiat Chrysler in January of using the software, known as a "defeat device," to illegally allow excess diesel emissions in 104,000 Jeep Grand Cherokees and Dodge Ram 1500 trucks built between 2014 and 2016. Byron Bunker, director of the EPA's Transportation and Air Quality compliance division, said in a January 2016 email to Fiat Chrysler, obtained by Reuters under the Freedom of Information Act, that he was "very concerned about the unacceptably slow pace" of the automaker's efforts to explain high nitrogen oxide emissions from some of its vehicles. Nitrogen oxide is linked to smog formation and respiratory problems. Bunker's email said the EPA had told Fiat Chrysler officials at a November 2015 meeting that at least one auxiliary emissions control device on the car maker's vehicles appeared to violate the agency's regulations. Mike Dahl, head of vehicle safety and regulatory compliance for Fiat Chrysler's U.S. unit, responded in a separate email that the company was working diligently and understood the EPA's concerns. He added that if the EPA identified Fiat Chrysler vehicles as containing defeat devices it would result in "potentially significant regulatory and commercial consequences." The documents redacted the vehicles named, but two officials briefed on the matter said they referred to diesel models. The EPA's November 2015 meeting with Fiat Chrysler came two months after Volkswagen AG, mired in a major tailpipe emissions scandal, admitted to installing secret defeat device software in hundreds of thousands of U.S. diesel cars to make them appear cleaner than they were on the road.
