See the seller's listing for full details and description of any imperfections.Seller Notes:"Issues: Drivers heated seat not working. (electric seat adjustments work fine). I've never investigated this because I like to keep my be-hind cool; so it might be something simple. The passenger seat gets toasty quickly. There are some repairable rust spots, most notably at the bottom of the doors and in the lower rear corners of the rear windows (visible in the photos). The interior is in generally pretty good shape, and the only significant tear in the upholstery is on the top of the back seat (see photo). There are some scratches on the side of the center console facing the radio, but not very noticeable due to their location. Other than that, it has the few scuffs and scrapes you would expect a 12 year old Jeep to have.It has two of the less significant Cherokee faults: Front left speaker doesn't work due to pinched wire; Oil Pressure sender sometimes gives low reading at idle in hot weather (pressure is fine & it doesn't use any oil or have exhaust smoke). That's about it."

You are bidding on my 2001 Jeep Cherokee, which has just over 177,000 on the clock. I bought it in July 2007, when the mileage was 121,000, initially to have a vehicle that would pull a tent trailer for family camping trips. I fitted a trailer hitch and added an electric brake controller. We didn't use the trailer tent very much and sold it long ago, so the Jeep was as a tow vehicle for less than 1,000 miles. Instead it became my daily driver, and now needs replaced due to becoming too small to accommodate our rapidly growing kids. There is mention of an accident recorded in Ohio in 2006, but I have never been able to figure out what the damage was, if any, as all the panels look original. I've certainly never had any alignment issues/uneven tire wear etc.

Please see the photos to assess the condition of the body and interior. There are a few small surface rust spots, mainly at the bottom of the doors and at the lower rear corners of the rear side windows. Otherwise it has a few scrapes & scratches, but no more than average for a Jeep of this age. The alloy wheels are in good shape - the one currently on the rear passenger side has suffered the most abrasion, but not that noticable.  I would say the Continental tires are at about 50% (they are 60,000 mile tires and I've put 30,000 on them).

The good stuff:
  • Strong engine and smooth transmission, with no issues I'm aware of, or unusual noises.  The 4WD system works as it should & engages easily.
  • I replaced the entire A/C system in July 2011 and it still blows nice & cold. (New compressor, dryer, condenser, evaporator, and lines). I also had the heater core replaced as a precaution when they were replacing the evaporator. Total cost was about $1,900.
  • About 30,000 miles ago all the brake rotors, drums, and brake lines were replaced.
  • I have changed the oil every 3,000 miles since I've owned it.
I wouldn't hesitate to drive this car anywhere, and it has never left me stranded.

I have tried to highlight the defects I am aware of, and the vehicle is sold as-is. Please do not ask me to stop the auction early or ask me what I'll take. There is no reserve, and the highest bidder takes it away once payment is made.

Chrysler recalling over 200k vehicles across its brands

Wed, 10 Apr 2013

With more than 200,000 units across six separate recalls and almost all of its brands, it appears that Chrysler has officially jumped headfirst into the recall pool this month. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued three official recalls for the automaker, and The Detroit News is reporting that the automaker itself has announced three more.
The biggest of the recalls applies to about 120,000 Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger and Chrysler 300 models for 2011 and 2012 due to faulty wiring harnesses for the seat-mounted side airbags, which could lead to these airbags not deploying in the event of a crash. A little more than 60,000 two-wheel-drive versions of the 2007-2008 Dodge Nitro and 2008 Jeep Liberty SUVs are being recalled due to a heat shield that could cause the driveshaft to break, which if that isn't bad on its own, could then hit underneath where the airbag sensor is mounted, causing the airbags to deploy. Wrapping up NHTSA's recall notices, about 20,000 Jeep Patriot and Jeep Compass models for 2012 are also being recalled due to a problem with the fuel tank transfer tube that could lead to the vehicle stalling. The LX car recall campaign is going into effect this month, while the other two will start next month - all three notices are posted below.
In addition to the official NHTSA recalls, The Detroit News is also reporting that Chrysler is recalling more than 16,000 Ram trucks and a small number of Dodge Dart sedans. Around 6,500 2013 Ram 1500 trucks will be recalled due to an improper adjustment of the parking brake cable from the factory, while 7,000 Cummins-powered 2013 Ram Heavy Duty trucks are being recalled due to an engine cover that does not have as much heat resistance as it is supposed to. Finally, a total of 46 Dodge Dart sedans are being recalled due to a problem with the brake calipers and/or parking brake.

2014 Jeep Cherokee: Introduction

Tue, 27 May 2014

When we look back at some of the more shocking product launches of recent yeras, the Jeep Cherokee is certainly high up on the list. And we aren't just talking about its off-the-wall, polarizing design.
For starters, it brought back the iconic Cherokee nameplate - something Jeep enthusiasts have coveted for ages. But beyond that, it brought a new evolution for the Jeep brand. After all, the Cherokee is car-based - using the same compact platform that underpins the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200. It has a greater focus on technology and refinement than ever before, in an effort to appeal to a new crop of Jeep customers. And powering it all is a new (optional) V6 engine paired with an equally new nine-speed automatic transmission.
Can the Cherokee's car-based roots still allow for a vehicle that's superb when the going gets tough? Will its design still be a love/hate affair in one year's time, or will it start to blend in? Is the powertrain strong enough to not only support the needs of daily driving and road trips, but blaze a few trails as well? We're aiming to answer all these questions, and more, over the next 12 months. Welcome to the Autoblog long-term garage, Cherokee.
