1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 Tsi 5.2 Liter on 2040-cars
Rochester, New York, United States
I am selling my silver 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. It is the model with the 5.2 liter V8 TSI (two-stage injection) engine (link to technical specs at the bottom of the page). I have all the paperwork for all major repairs and oil changes/maintenance from when I bought the car in 2003 until now, as well as the title which is clean.
The car will be sold AS-IS, with no warranty. Any buyer is free to bring a mechanic to look at the car. The car runs, however, the power steering is non-operational at the moment. This because the power steering reservoir and high-pressure hose need to be replaced (the power steering pump works just fine). Therefor, the car would need to be towed (flatbed because of the AWD). This is a great car that needs minor repairs to be operational. History: Has never been in an accident, flooded, on fire, etc. Miles: 133,179 (average of 7,800 per year) Exterior Condition: No rust, scratches, or dents to the body. The rear bottom molding has a small crack (was there when I purchased the vehicle). Other than that the body of the car is pristine. The rear hatch no longer remains up on its own (pneumatic rods need to be replaced) The undercarriage shows normal rust that goes along with an older car driven in the northeast (winters and salt). Interior Condition: Black leather throughout that shows normal wear for the year (cracking on driver side arm rest, slight wear on front seat leather). The ceiling matting sags in some areas. No stains throughout. Features: Two-stage injection 5.2 liter V8 high performance engine, Quadra Trac (Jeep's all-wheel drive package), hood and window bug deflectors, power front seats, CD & cassette player, sunroof, AC, power windows, power locks, service displays screen. Disclosures: 1.) The high-pressure power steering fluid hose needs to be replaced. The part is on hand and the procedure is minor. 2.) The power steering fluid reservoir needs to be replaced (~$70 part). The power steering pump still works and only the reservoir must be replaced (was punctured on one side during replacement of the high pressure hose) 3.) The passenger side front window is off the track (motor still works, the glass has just slipped off the track - window will go down but not back up). 4.) The speakers are original and no longer work (wiring and radio/cd player/cassette player all work - just needs new speakers) 5.) No spare tire - The spare was used when one of the other tires went flat. The rim was retained and is in the spare time compartment. I consider the vehicle in 'Good' to 'Very Good' condition, in which case Kelley Blue Book value is around $3,100. FCA spends $1.5 billion to retool plant for Ram production
Tue, Jul 26 2016Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is planning to invest $1.48 billion to retool its Sterling Heights Assembly plant in metro Detroit to build the next generation of the Ram 1500. The investment will allow the assembly plant to go from unibody to body-on-frame construction. FCA also confirmed that production of the Chrysler 200 will end in December in order for the plant to be altered. As previously reported, FCA is looking to move production of the 1500 from its current assembly plant in Warren to the Sterling Heights Assembly plant (both are in Michigan). While FCA has not released any official plans for the Warren Truck Assembly Plant, Automotive News reports that the plant will be retooled to manufacture the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer SUVs. Earlier this month, FCA announced plans to invest $1.05 billion to retool the Jeep Wrangler factory. FCA's current investment plans are part of the automaker's push to put competitive products on the road. 2018 Jeep Wrangler to get 8-speed auto
Mon, Nov 24 2014Remember when the Jeep Wrangler had a three-speed automatic? That wasn't that long ago – as recent as the 2007 redesign – but Chrysler is keen to leave those days behind on the dusty trail. The current model ushered in a four-speed, then a five-speed, but the latest intel indicates that an eight-speed automatic is in the cards. According to a report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, and cited by Automotive News, Jeep plans on fitting its eight-speed automatic transmission to the next-generation Wrangler. Chrysler already uses the ZF-sourced slushbox on the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ram 1500, Chrysler 300, and versions of the Dodge Challenger, Charger and Durango. But according to the SEC filing, the Auburn Hills automaker intends "to use this transmission in all of our rear-wheel-drive vehicles, except for heavy-duty versions of the Ram pick-up truck and the SRT Viper." AN says that Chrysler wanted to slot the transmission straight into the current Wrangler, but it wouldn't fit. Between the transmission and shift to aluminum construction, the next-generation Wrangler promises to deliver a significant reduction in fuel consumption. In correspondence with Autoblog, however, company spokesmen declined to comment on the eight-speed's suitability towards either the current Wrangler or the upcoming one.
NHTSA investigating power modules on Chrysler Group SUVs and minivans
Mon, 29 Sep 2014The Center for Auto Safety is officially petitioning the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to begin scrutinizing alleged problems with the totally integrated power module (TIPM) on about 24 Chrysler Group SUVs and minivans. The advocacy group claims that the part's failure can cause affected vehicles to stall or not start at all. NHTSA is still looking into the accusations and deciding whether a full investigation is actually warranted.
The CAS petition claims at least 70 TIPM failures, but according to NHTSA, six of the complaints are for models that don't have the modules. In 34 of the reported cases, the vehicles refused to start, and in 17 of them the engine stalled. There were also two allegations of smoke and one of a fire. However, none of these affected airbag deployment or resulted in a crash.
This petition isn't the first TIPM-related problem for Chrysler Group. A recent report in the New York Times alleged that it found 240 complaints potentially related to the issue on NHTSA's website alone. In September, the automaker also recalled 230,760 examples worldwide (188,723 in the US) of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango replace the fuel pump relay circuit inside of the TIPM-7 with one external to the unit. The original part could allegedly cause the models to stall without warning. Even earlier, the company also recalled about 80,000 examples of the Jeep Wrangler and Dodge Nitro in 2007 to have the module reprogrammed.
