Up for sale is my daughters 1997 Jeep Cherokee Country (classic, sport). It has a Rough Country 3" lift, with new hydro shocks installed when we purchased it 2.5 years ago. We also installed the new tires and wheels at that time. vehicle has had approx. 25,000 miles put on it since she bought it. She has moved up to a lifted Jeep Liberty, so we are selling her Cherokee. Since we have owned it, we have replaced:
Water pump,
Battery,
Fuel Injectors
O2 Sensors,
exhaust
power steering pump
engine belt
battery temp sensor
radio and speakers
power window switches
fuel pump
upper and lower ball joints
both axle shaft U joints
both wheel bearings
calipers, brake pads, and rotors
all fluids changed regularly - axles, trans, engine, transfer case
(Please bear in mind I believe in complete and total honesty - I am revealing EVERYTHING I know about the vehicle - you being happy with your purchase is very important to me)

Jeep has (as of this posting) 150,036 miles on it now. No leaks or burning of fluids but some seepage visible - rear main seal, rear diff pinion, etc. Never have to add any fluid between oil changes or maintenance windows. 4.0 I-6 in great shape, auto trans works perfect. Body in decent shape, no major damage or rust to be concerned about. Body does have some body work in its past life that is "so-so" if you look up close. Body work done on the drivers door, around the lock area. Body work done on the roof in a 2 areas. Has a small  rust hole in the lower rear passenger side quarter panel, drivers side just edge surface rust, visible in pics. Does have rust in floor under drivers and passenger front footwells, I have just left it alone, cant tell unless you crawl under and look - but the frame, suspension mounts, body mounts all in better then average shape - car appears it was rust proofed and undercoated early in its life. Bottoms of doors solid, rockers are solid. Has an aftermarket electric sunroof that works properly, rattles and does drip in very heavy rains (explains the rust in the floor boards in front only and why I didn't patch them!). Drives nice and straight down the road. Most all functions work - heat, wipers, radio, windows. Drivers door lock solenoid bad, A/C has a leaky line and does not hold a charge, but all parts are there and complete (I tried to charge it when we first got it - and it did run and cool - but leaked out very quickly). Leak is in a solid line, near the battery. Rear liftgate struts are weak. Seats in good shape, interior is not trashed. We have not hesitated to let my daughter drive this every day, and including our trips with our Jeep club twice a year which is 5 hours away.  Drove it there, did some fun off-roading and drove it home.
Just passed IL emissions test beginning of July. Aftermarket off-road front and rear steel bumpers with D-ring mounts and front stinger. Aftermarket front slush mats. Aftermarket stereo MP3 with aux in and new speakers all the way around. Interior in decent shape, no rips or tears in seats or carpets. Great first vehicle for someone that needs something dependable and tough. This Jeep always starts - even on the coldest winter days. We wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere. 4 wheel drive works great. Price somewhat negotiable, but not much - really because of the tons of new parts, its ready for a new owner - throw plates on it and go!

Dirt Every Day tries to find the best 4x4 for under $4k

Mon, 25 Aug 2014

If you want to build a cheap truck that can still do dirty deeds off the beaten path, it's best to start with solid axles and a solid V8 engine. That sums up the lessons learned after watching the 2014 Cheap Truck Challenge from the Dirt Every Day video crew, who took to the deserts and surrounding areas near Reno, NV, in an attempt to find the best 4x4 for under $4,000. Fortunately for us, the whole sordid journey was captured on video.
This isn't the first time the boys from DED filmed a Cheap Truck Challenge, and this year's festivities pitted together a 1993 Chevy S10 pickup, a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee and a 1975 International truck in a series of challenges ranging from donuts to drag races, with plenty of hill-climbing and rock-crawling action in between. We don't want to spoil all the fun, but suffice it to say one competitor was found to be lacking while the other two performed (mostly) well. See for yourself in the video above.

FCA recalls 570,000 SUVs from Jeep and Dodge over fire woes

Sun, Dec 27 2015

Fiat Chrysler US has issued two recalls covering a total of about 570,000 Jeep and Dodge models. The first concerns vanity mirror wiring in the Jeep Grand Cherokee from the 2011 and 2012 model years, and in Dodge Durango units built before September 12, 2012. The automaker recalled almost 900,000 units last year to repair the issue, then faced more issues this year when the fires continued in repaired vehicles. This new recall seeks to resolve the issue, FCA saying that the post-recall fires happened in a tiny percentage of vehicles equipped with a specific wiring package. This recall is for 352,831 total units in the US, another 26,478 in Canada, 13,037 in Mexico, and 84,330 internationally. No injuries or deaths have been reported. FCA says it will inform customers as to when they can schedule a service visit to remedy the issue. The second recall takes aim at 60,107 examples of the Jeep Compass and Patriot from the 2015 model year in the US, plus 5,755 in Canada, 3,351 in Mexico, and 23,995 in other markets. Those models could suffer from an out-of-position clamp on the power steering fluid line. The error could allow fluid to leak, increasing the risk of a fire if the fluid ends up on a hot surface. In the case of a complete loss of fluid, drivers will need to use a lot more effort to steer. The automaker reports no injuries or accidents, and will advise customers when to head to the dealer for service. Post-service overheating conditions were observed only in vehicles equipped with a certain wiring package. These vehicles were produced before Sept. 2, 2012.Affected are model-year 2011-2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango SUVs produced before Sept. 2, 2012. Wiring in the headliners of these vehicles will be secured with a new adhesive.

FCA recalls 15k Grand Cherokees, Durangos over brake issues

Sun, Apr 3 2016

The Basics: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling 14,768 examples of the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango, both from the 2015 and 2016 model years, and built between December 9, 2015, and January 14, 2016. The Problem: The left front brake caliper on some vehicles may have been made from the wrong type of iron, and could be prone to crack. A cracked brake caliper may not function properly. Injuries/Deaths: None reported. The problem was discovered by the automaker during testing. The fix: Dealers will need to check the casting date of the component in question, and if necessary, replace the brake caliper. The schedule for carrying out the recall service has yet to be outlined. If you own one: Expect to hear from the manufacturer to arrange an appointment with your local dealer.
