1996 Jeep Cherokee Classic Sport Utility 4-door 4.0l on 2040-cars
Modesto, California, United States
For sale is a 1996 Jeep cherokee XJ, with 4WD. The engine is the 4.0 HO and the transfer case and transmission are the heavier duty models (AX15 and NP 231, I believe). I've had this vehicle since I bought it at an auction with 46K miles on it. It was originally a forest service vehicle. I have installed the Ford 8.8 rear axle with disc brakes and re-geared both diffs to 3.73. I've also installed an OME 2" suspension, and an Australian rear seat that has factory headrests. I have upgraded the entire exhaust system from the manifold all the way to the tail pipe; heavier duty manifold, new cats, o2 sensors, muffler. I have kept up with all maintenance items and have always driven this vehicle with care.

2014 North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year finalists announced [w/poll]
Tue, 10 Dec 2013The 2014 North American International Auto Show is right around the corner, which means it's high time we found out which cars and trucks would be finalists for the prestigious North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year awards.
The finalists - three in cars and three in three trucks/utilities - are dominated by American brands, with two-thirds of the finalists hailing from either General Motors or Chrysler (don't worry Ford, there's always next year), while outliers from Mazda and Acura can be found in each contest. Here now is the list of finalists for the big prizes:

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee gets surprisingly comprehensive update, new diesel power
Mon, 14 Jan 2013Traditionally, automotive journalists can be heard muttering something to the effect of "Geeze, it's about time!" whenever a vehicle's midcycle refresh is revealed. As we routinely see and drive new models many months before the public even claps eyes on them in showrooms - and then go on to tweeze apart their minutia in our daily writings - perhaps some impatience is to be expected. With so much exposure to a given vehicle, it's fair to say we tire of most cars and trucks far more quickly than the average consumer.
The alterations are handsome, if not subtle touches from the "If It Ain't Broke" school of design.
Which is why we're pleased to say "Oh, is it time for that already?" when it comes to the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The current WK2 Grand Cherokee hit the market in 2011 and climbed its way into our hearts with its rugged good looks, go-anywhere capability and surprising refinement. We're not yet tired of its appearance or performance, but even so, we're very glad to see Chrysler giving its flagship Jeep some attention, including a much-anticipated diesel powertrain option and some other economy-minded measures.
