1983 Jeep Cherokee Chief Sport Utility 2-door 5.9l Fsj Widerack - No Reserve on 2040-cars

Year:1983 Mileage:218308
Location:

Edgewood, Texas, United States

Edgewood, Texas, United States

Selling "Root Beer" my father's 1983 Jeep Cherokee Widetrack with rebuilt 360 engine, 727 auto. 3 spd. trans, runs, drives, and sounds good!  This is the last year of the FSJ Cherokees. Offenhauser intake manifold.  Last year this Cherokee made over a 800 mile roundtrip with no problems other than many stops for gas!

The odometer reads 218,308 miles.  I do not have documentation, but there is not even 5K miles on the engine since it has been rebuilt. The transmission was rebuilt and is very strong.  The 4 wheel drive works just fine as well.  There is a locker in the front axle. I do not know what brand.  The rear axle has a limited slip.

BJ's Offroad bumpers and lift with 35" tires. All glass and headliner is good. Electric windows and door locks all work including the rear glass window.  Light surface rust on the original paint therefore the Rustoluem primer racing strips. If I was going to keep this I would remove the primer and clear coat the entire car.  The patina on this Jeep is so cool.  In my opinion it would be better than repainting, but that is up to you!  Other than surface rust no body rust not even in the metal fender flares.  The floors and frame are solid.  The clips on the turn signals are broken and the lamp is kind of just sitting in the opening.  Also the grill is a little loose, but nothing is broken on the grill itself. Just needs a little work to get it grill tight. The seat belt receptacle on the driver's side is not working.  The AC is not hooked up, but many of the parts are included.  It does not have a radio.

Not sure of the entire history of this Jeep, but it apparently has lived its life in the south.  My father has had it for about 3 years and a friend of the family had it for about 5 years before that and he did the lift, bumpers, tires, engine, and transmission rebuild.

Not too many survivors like this out there.  These Cherokees are getting more difficult to find in this kind of driver condition. Would not take much to make this Jeep very nice! Or drive it like it is.  It gets attention everywhere!

Clear Texas title. Sold "AS IS WHERE IS".  Will assist with your shipping arrangements.

Please contact me with any questions about shipping or the Jeep itself prior to auction ending.  The Jeep is located in Edgewood, TX which is about 60 miles east of Dallas, TX.  You could drive this thing home it is that reliable.

Thank you for looking at this fine piece of American steel!

Jeep 'trailer hitch' recall repair rates lag amidst reports of new death

Sat, Jan 10 2015

The problem with exploding fuel tanks in the 1993-1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2002-2007 Jeep Liberty in some rear collisions continues to be a problem for FCA US, formerly Chrysler. The campaign to fix the utility vehicles was first announced in June 2013 after 51 claimed fatalities, and the fixes reportedly began in January 2014. However, there continue to be new deaths blaming the problem in unrepaired models, according to The Detroit News, citing data from the Center for Auto Safety. The automaker initially refused NHTSA's pressuring to conduct a recall because the models met applicable crash standards when they were manufactured, but eventually, there was a compromise to inspect and fix about 1.56 million Jeeps. With the fuel tank located between the rear axle and bumper, the unusual fix was to install a trailer hitch for extra protection. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration later agreed that the change would provide added safety in lower to medium speed crashes, but not high-speed crashes. The most recent fatality, according to The Detroit News, occurred on a Michigan freeway in November 2014 when a pregnant woman in a 2003 Liberty was rear-ended when traffic slowed. Her Jeep impacted the vehicle in front, rolled over and a fire resulted. The family reportedly plans to file a lawsuit against FCA. At issue has been the rate at which the vehicles are being fixed. In July 2014, the automaker estimated it could have all of the vehicles repaired by March 2015 thanks to additional hitch supplies. But by November, NHTSA claimed that only three percent of the recalled models had been fixed. FCA says it continues to work to notify owners, though. According to Chrysler spokesperson Eric Mayne to Autoblog, "We are processing approximately 1,200 vehicles per day. Every owner who schedules service is receiving service. As of Jan. 8, that total was 193,490." The company has also mailed out over two million notifications to owners, more than the number officially called in. Given the age of these Jeeps, many of them have had multiple owners, and historically, the older a vehicle is, the less likely the recall fixes are to be carried out. FCA is currently creating a video urging people to have the hitch installed to be released soon. AEV Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon

Fri, 28 Feb 2014

After their rented 2007 Hummer H3 failed them during the brutal Rallye Aicha des Gazelles in Morocco, Amy Lerner and her sister Tricia Reina were on a quest to find the most capable production off-roader for their next competition - they chose a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. Their next mission was to find a company with the competence to configure it to win. After poring over Internet forums and perusing countless magazines for an outfitter who could meet their demanding requirements, they sent their bright orange JK ("Crush" is the official color) to American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) for some modifications.
The Michigan-based team at AEV kept the Jeep's 3.6-liter V6 and automatic transmission stock, but replaced the hood with a tall AEV Heat Reduction Hood and added an AEV Snorkel Kit for water crossings (it serves double-duty as its raised height helps to keep the air intake out of the kicked-up dust on the trail). Front and rear off-road bumpers were bolted in place, and AEV skid plates were added to provide additional undercarriage protection. A pair of IPF-900 off-road lights improve visibility, while a 10.2-gallon AEV Fuel Caddy (located behind the exterior spare) added some range. The suspension was upgraded with a 3.5-inch lift kit with Bilstein remote reservoir shocks, and 35-inch Falken Wildpeak A/T tires (LT285/70R17) were mounted at all four corners on AEV's beadlock wheels.

Jeep Wrangler Polar is a tasty frozen treat

Wed, 11 Sep 2013

Perhaps it's because we've seen so many kitted-out examples over the years, but it seems to us that the Jeep Wrangler tends to wear its special-edition duds better than most models. It might be the icon's familiar rectilinear proportions or the inherent bolt-on look of its extremities - bumpers, mirrors, lighting, and step rails - but we've seen precious few factory specials that look anything but excellent.
Case in point: this new Jeep Wrangler Polar unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show. This European-market limited-edition model is said to be a celebration of winter driving, which evidently works out to a body-color hardtop, black-accent seven-slot grille, 18-inch gloss black wheels, Trac-Lok limited-slip differential and a hard hat for the spare tire. Finished here in Hydro Blue (Billet Silver Metallic and Bright White are also available) and a black interior with Polar White accents, the Polar edition features badges displaying 78° S and 106° E longitude and latitude coordinates for Vostok, Antarctica.
This new Jeep will be available in both standard and Unlimited formats with either the 3.6-liter Pentastar gas engine or the still-not-for-US 2.8-liter turbodiesel when it bows early next year. For further details, check out our gallery above and the press release below.
