This Jeep is only of significant value in California.  Finding CJ7's with legal V8 conversions is rare in California and the previous owner spent $8,500 on the engine/transmission conversion.

So far I've only had one person come and look at the Jeep.  They liked it but said it had too much motor for them.  Can you ever have too much power?

I bought this in 2006 and have rarely driven it since then.  The gal I bought it from used it as a commuter and rarely took it off road.  She also spent gobs of money on it and almost everything on this Jeep has been replaced or rebuilt.  The front seats are the only item I see that reflects 366,000 miles.

No rust.

40,000 since a 1991 Throttle Body 5.7 Liter Chevy Truck motor was installed.   This installation is smog legal in California.

700R4  4speed automatic overdrive transmission with  shift kit and Lokar shifter

Dana 300 transfer case

Summit Racing gear reduction starter

Dana 44 rear end with one piece axles (original in some 1986 CJ's), 4.56 gears and Auburn limited slip

Dana 30 front differential with 4.56 ratio.

Vintage brand aftermarket air conditioning.  The system is a recirculation type system so the intake vent was sealed off as shown in one of the photos.  The seal job was poorly done but could easily be cleaned up.  The previous owner paid $1600 for the A.C. unit.

Warn XD9000i winch (selling separately if this auction is not successful).

Rockford Fosgate Radio/CD player with Polk speakers

Kayline softtop

Bikini top

2.5 inch lift.  The front springs are YJ wrangler springs (2.5" wide instead of 2" stock width).

Currie shackles

Currie steering box brace

Braided Stainless steel flexible brake lines

Ubolt skid plates

Sway bar quick disconnects

Borgeson collapsible steering shaft

Fold and tumble OEM rear seat.

33" BFG mud terrains.  I checked the date codes and one is a KO style from 2004 and the other three tires are the older style mud terrains and are from 1995-1998.  They have been in the garage most of the time and I don't see any dry rot.  They came off another Jeep that I had parted out and four wheeled pretty hard.  The tires are somewhat cut up from rocks and hitting the previous Jeep's fenders but have at least 75% tread left.

The spare is a 33" Goodyear and has 95% tread and is date code 2002.  The spare will be loose because the rack is not mounted.

The wheels are steel/chrome and a bit banged up on the edges because they were on my other Jeep.  The spare is aluminum.

Trail Quest extra 23 gallon extra capacity fuel tank.  The previous owner told me it's 23 gallons.  I suspect it's 20 gallons.

Notebook with all major records and conversion receipts/notes.

The steering wheel in the photos will be replaced with a new one.  I have an emotional attachment to the one shown.  I  can also let you buy your own.  I'll give a $125 credit if this is desired and you can ship my wheel back to me.

I bought a Warn rear bumper and tire rack that I never installed. It will come with the vehicle but will need to be installed by the buyer.

The old original spare tire mounting holes are shown in three of the photos.  The Warn bumper/rack mount to the frame and not to the body.

One of the photos of the left rear quarter panel shows where I tried to sand out a emblem someone had painted on the Jeep.  The paint is thin there and the gloss is gone.

The vehicle has two small oil leaks.  I would consider them more seeps than leaks because it's probably close to a drop a day from each spot.  There's no way to tell but the oil spot on the concrete is only about 1.5 inches in diameter over the course of a few weeks.  3 or 4 inches over the course of 6 months or a year.  Also, the fuel gauges works but is not correct, i.e. it moves but 1/2 tank mark is not actually 1/2 tank.

Reserve is $10,900.00

Feel free to ask questions or give me any suggestions.

7 months later, Jeep 'trailer hitch' recall still stalled

Tue, 14 Jan 2014

For the past few years, Chrysler and its CEO, Sergio Marchionne, have gone head-to-head with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and its boss, David Strickland, over the government safety agency's request for Chrysler to recall almost three-million Jeep vehicles due to what NHTSA says is a safety issue that has caused at least 51 deaths. After a three-year investigation and Chrysler's initial refusal to issue a recall because it deemed the vehicles safe and built to the day's federal requirements, last summer, the two parties compromised on a "voluntary campaign" to inspect 1.56 million vehicles, those being the 1992 to 1998 Grand Cherokee and 2002 to 2007 Liberty.
Those vehicles were designed with their gas tanks between the rear axle and the bumper, and NHTSA says that in rear-end collisions, damage to the fuel tank has caused fires responsible for those 51 deaths. The compromise reached last summer was that Chrysler would inspect 1.56 million vehicles and, "if necessary, provide an upgrade to the rear structure of the vehicle." Practically speaking, that meant Chrysler would replace aftermarket trailer hitches, but would take no action if a vehicle had a factory-installed hitch or an aftermarket hitch from Mopar.
A report in The Detroit News says the "voluntary campaign" is just now getting under way, with Chrysler saying last week that the design of the replacement part had been finalized and it was tooling up "to deliver the required volume." Seven months later, still in question is whether NHTSA will crash-test the fix engineered by Chrysler, noteworthy because not only did the vehicles in question pass every safety standard necessary to be cleared for sale at the time, there are still questions (to those of us on the outside) as to how the Jeeps at issue fare among their peers in such incidents. Either way, Chrysler and NHTSA apparently still disagree on the efficacy of the remedy itself: the carmaker says it might help in low-speed crashes but not high-speed collisions, a position the NHTSA is at odds with. All of this means the campaign doesn't yet have an end in sight.

Sergio rethinks FCA-GM merger idea, dismisses critics

Sat, Dec 5 2015

After many public overtures, Fiat Chrysler Automotive CEO Sergio Marchionne has claimed his company won't be making a hostile takeover bid for General Motors. This is despite widespread speculation that FCA's desire to merge was motivated by its allegedly dire situation. As one unnamed GM exec who spoke to Automotive News earlier this year put it, "Why should [GM] bail out FCA?" "We are not choking. We are in relatively decent shape," Marchionne told journalists attending an FCA shareholder meeting in Amsterdam, AN reports. "We have been publicly rebuffed, we have been rejected and you cannot force these things. I don't want to. At the moment, we have no intention to do anything hostile." Instead of focusing on merging with GM, or any other partners for that matter, FCA will refocus on implementing its ambitious five-year investment plan, which would see it dump $52 billion into its various brands, with a particular focus on Alfa Romeo, Maserati, and Jeep. So far the attempt has largely been unsuccessful, especially as it relates to the Italian brands. Earlier this week, additional reports emerged that claimed Alfa was pushing back the Giulia and an unnamed CUV while reassigning resources to updated versions of the Giulietta and MiTo hatchbacks. This is not the first time we've heard about trouble for the Giulia, of course. For Masearti, though, it was the first we'd heard of delays for Alfieri sports car, which allegedly won't appear in 2016, as promised. We can expect a proper breakdown of FCA's adjusted plans when Marchionne and Company reveal an updated product slate next month. Stellantis ready to kill brands and fix U.S. problems, CEO Tavares says

Thu, Jul 25 2024

MILAN — Stellantis is taking steps to fix weak margins and high inventory at its U.S. operations and will not hesitate to axe underperforming brands in its sprawling portfolio, its chief executive Carlos Tavares said on Thursday. The warning for lossmaking brands is a turnaround for Tavares, who has maintained since Stellantis was created in 2021 from the merger of Italian-American automaker Fiat Chrysler and France's PSA that all of its 14 brands including Maserati, Fiat, Peugeot and Jeep have a future. "If they don't make money, we'll shut them down," Carlos Tavares told reporters after the world's No. 4 automaker delivered worse-than-expected first-half results, sending its shares down as much as 10%. "We cannot afford to have brands that do not make money." The automaker now also considers China's Leapmotor as its 15th brand, after it agreed to a broad cooperation with the group. Stellantis does not release figures for individual brands, except for Maserati which reported an 82 million euro adjusted operating loss in the first half. Some analysts say Maserati could possibly be a target for a sale by Stellantis, while other brands such as Lancia or DS might be at risk of being scrapped given their marginal contribution to the group's overall sales. Stellantis' Milan-listed shares were down as much as 12.5% on Thursday, hitting their lowest since August 2023. That brings the loss for the year so far to 22%, making them the worst performer among the major European automakers. Few automotive brands have been killed off since General Motors ditched the unprofitable Saturn and Pontiac during a U.S. government-led bankruptcy in the global financial crisis in 2008. Tavares is under pressure to revive flagging margins and sales and cut inventory in the United States as Stellantis bets on the launch of 20 new models this year which it hopes will boost profitability. Recent poor results from global carmakers have heightened worries about a weakening outlook for sales across major markets such as the U.S., whilst they also juggle an expensive transition to electric vehicles and growing competition from cheaper Chinese rivals. Japan's Nissan Motor saw first-quarter profit almost completely wiped out on Thursday and slashed its annual outlook, as deep discounting in the United States shredded its margins. Tavares said he would be working through the summer with his U.S. team on how to improve performance and cut inventory.
