If you have been looking for a CJ-7 you have found your Jeep. 1986 was the last year of the CJ's and it was the best year made. This Jeep came from the factory with a Hardtop and Hard Doors (which are included in the sale), a 4.2 L/258 cu in Inline 6, Dana 44 Rear Axle and Dana 30 Front Axle. I purchased this Jeep as the third owner in 2001 and completely rebuilt the Jeep. I have only put 25,000 miles on the Jeep and believe there is no significant mechanical portion of the Jeep that has not been rebuilt or replaced. This Jeep comes with 3 tops (Hardtop/Hard Doors, Besttop Softtop and Soft Doors, & Bikini Top.) The interior is Rhinolined and it has Wet Okole neoprene seat covers front and rear. The rear seat is factory original, the fronts are Besttop high back seat. The jeep is the original metal tub and associated parts (windshield, hood, etc.) and there is no active rust or perforation issues. The Jeep was repainted in 2001 and is garage kept. The mechanical goodies are listed below and pay special attention to the custom bumper and features associated with that. Also, look at the spare parts that come with the Jeep, tow strap, fuel and water cans, ammo cans to hold parts/gear, fire extinguishers, etc., you are ready to go on an extended woods trip the day you buy the Jeep. Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT gets power increase, minor tweaks for 2015
Tue, 02 Sep 2014As a brand within Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, SRT may have an uncertain future, but it's pumping out some seriously mean machines anyway. The supercharged Hellcat V8 may be gobbling up most of the headlines with its 707 horsepower, but even the Grand Cherokee SRT is getting some small updates for the 2015 model year.
Most importantly for many enthusiasts, the Grand Cherokee SRT is getting a slight power bump. Don't expect the 700+ hp from the Hellcat, but this SUV sees a modest 5-hp and 5-pound-feet of torque improvement to bring output to 475 hp and 470 lb-ft for its 6.4-liter V8 with an eight-speed automatic. The minor change doesn't change the sprint to 60 miles per hour, clocking in at the same 4.8 seconds, or the tow rating at 7,200 pounds. Still, more grunt is never a bad idea.
Another new addition is the Active Noise Canceling system as a standard feature for this powerful SUV. It adds four microphones around the vehicle and uses the stereo system to nullify extraneous sound. However, Jeep claims that the meaty exhaust note from the V8 still gets through into the cabin for driver enjoyment.
7 months later, Jeep 'trailer hitch' recall still stalled
Tue, 14 Jan 2014For the past few years, Chrysler and its CEO, Sergio Marchionne, have gone head-to-head with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and its boss, David Strickland, over the government safety agency's request for Chrysler to recall almost three-million Jeep vehicles due to what NHTSA says is a safety issue that has caused at least 51 deaths. After a three-year investigation and Chrysler's initial refusal to issue a recall because it deemed the vehicles safe and built to the day's federal requirements, last summer, the two parties compromised on a "voluntary campaign" to inspect 1.56 million vehicles, those being the 1992 to 1998 Grand Cherokee and 2002 to 2007 Liberty.
Those vehicles were designed with their gas tanks between the rear axle and the bumper, and NHTSA says that in rear-end collisions, damage to the fuel tank has caused fires responsible for those 51 deaths. The compromise reached last summer was that Chrysler would inspect 1.56 million vehicles and, "if necessary, provide an upgrade to the rear structure of the vehicle." Practically speaking, that meant Chrysler would replace aftermarket trailer hitches, but would take no action if a vehicle had a factory-installed hitch or an aftermarket hitch from Mopar.
A report in The Detroit News says the "voluntary campaign" is just now getting under way, with Chrysler saying last week that the design of the replacement part had been finalized and it was tooling up "to deliver the required volume." Seven months later, still in question is whether NHTSA will crash-test the fix engineered by Chrysler, noteworthy because not only did the vehicles in question pass every safety standard necessary to be cleared for sale at the time, there are still questions (to those of us on the outside) as to how the Jeeps at issue fare among their peers in such incidents. Either way, Chrysler and NHTSA apparently still disagree on the efficacy of the remedy itself: the carmaker says it might help in low-speed crashes but not high-speed collisions, a position the NHTSA is at odds with. All of this means the campaign doesn't yet have an end in sight.

Only slightly more than one month ago, undisguised (and less-than-flattering) shots of the all-new 2014 Jeep Cherokee were leaked online. Later that day, in an effort to suppress the uprising, Jeep countered with its own official photography offering us much clearer front and three-quarter views. We've been left to digest those pictures for weeks.
Now, mere hours before the fabric comes sliding off its newest mid-size sport-utility at its live reveal at the New York Auto Show, Jeep has released dozens of new images showing all four corners, plus a few interior shots, of its new Cherokee.
