1984 Jeep CJ7 - Fuel Injected and Rust Free!

This is a rust and rot-free CJ7 that came from Arizona.  I bought it knowing that I was going to bring it back to original however I am sidetracked by a '78 Golden Eagle project.  This jeep is rock solid and drives great.  The engine has been replaced with a newer 4.2 liter fuel injected engine (not the 4.0 liter).  The jeep starts on the first turn of the key each and every time and absolutely NO idling issues.  It drives great down the highway at 70 mph and doesn't wander or wobble at all.  The 4-speed transmission and clutch shift perfectly and the jeep stops on a dime.  The brakes as well as the exhaust have been replaced recently and it does appear to be legal for anyone interested in emission restricted states.  The catalytic converter are in place and it does have the original components for smog control under the hood.  Keep in mind that Michigan does not have mandatory testing so I can't say for certain that it will pass emissions, but as I stated, all of the components appear to be intact and the jeep does not seem to run rich or lean.  4x4 works fine but I've not had it out in the sand dunes or mudding - I simply don't use my jeeps that way.  The jeep does not have power steering, however I do have the gearbox as well as the pump if you'd like to convert it.  Those items can be negotiated in the selling price however are not included in the auction.

The exterior is in great shape.  I had it painted recently however I instructed the shop to not use any filler.  You can still see the factory rivet marks and the natural "waves" that the jeep had when it was born. There were just too many stone pops/chips for me to put a new decal package over it so I had it painted.  The pain is not show quality, however it looks great.  I tend to be a little picky on my jeeps so I may be more critical than others.  The doors were painted as well as.  The soft-top is almost new and I actually hate to get rid of it as I was planning on saving it for my next project.  Same story with the wheels.  I had painted a set of wagon wheels and found some trim rings and center caps but the chrome ones look to good to take off.

The interior is in great condition as well.  There are a few things a purist would notice but doesn't affect the jeep.  The dash is cut for the stereo, the steering column is out of a YJ (one of the plastic rings is cracked), there is a toggle switch on the dash for the fuel pump (I haven't taken the time to wire the electric fuel pump to the ignition - it was this way when I got it), I recovered the seats with aftermarket, leather skins (although they look really good), the rear seat is aftermarket, the center console is missing the lock, and the carpet I installed is out of a YJ so some of the holes are a little larger around the seat belt openings.  Other than that, the jeep shows extremely well.  The previous owner also painted in the bedliner material on the inside, which I didn't know before I purchased it site-unseen.  For that reason, I did take a bunch of pictures of the underside so you can see that the pans are not rusted out in the least bit.

The rockers are solid.  As you can see from the underside, the rocker mouldings have no rust on the attachment lip.  There is no rust near the rear frame or tailgate welds either.  This jeep is Solid!  Because I have a bunch of parts and wouldn't mind keeping some of the parts off the jeep, I'm willing to negotiate a few items if you'd like to get the reserve lowered:

Top:  Have a white-hard top as well as an original white whitco - snap top with all of the doors and hardware.  I'd be willing to drop for the hardtop swap or a few more bucks for the original
Wheels:  I have a set of four painted, black wagon wheels with chrome trim rings and center caps that would like nice as well.
Center Console:  If you are planning on replacing this one - I'll take it out and drop a few bucks
Power Steering:  I can include the p/s pump as well as the gearbox for a few bucks (you install it)

Lastly, the odometer wasn't working so it was swapped out with one that was.  The gauges, including the gas gauge, do work now - however I don't know the true mileage of the jeep.

I don't have any problem shipping however I'm in need of space so it would have to be within a reasonable timeframe.  I've sold jeeps and mustangs to Australia, South Africa, New Zeeland, Norway, and Canada - to name a few.  If you have any questions or want more pictures, please don't hesitate to ask however I do request that you respect my time and refrain from tire-kicking.  Thanks for looking and GodBless!

Watch this R/C Jeep Wrangler plow snow

Mon, 06 Jan 2014

There's no denying the fact that the Jeep Wrangler is one tough and rugged vehicle, and there is apparently little lost when the SUV is shrunk down for a 1:10th scale radio-controlled version. Proving that the Axial SCX10 Jeep Wrangler is not your run-of-the-mill R/C car, YouTube user Andrew Dykiel posted a pair of videos showing it clear about an inch of snow from his sidewalk and driveway during a snow storm last month.
Starting at $379.99, the Axial SCX10 costs more than most budget snowblowers, but other than paying a neighbor kid to shovel your snow, this might be the best way for a car guy to clear snow without the need for hot chocolate and ibuprofen. Better yet, it's electric, so it's zero-emission answer to snow removal! Scroll down to see how this R/C Jeep can help "shovel" snow from the warmth of your sofa. We've also thrown in a bonus video showing the mini Jeep negotiating the Rubicon Trail.

Chrysler 3.0L EcoDiesel V6: Autoblog Technology of the Year finalist

Wed, 19 Nov 2014

Offering a diesel engine in an American pickup is anything but new - Ford, General Motors and Chrysler all offer excellent and almost impossibly powerful oil-burning engines in their various fullsize trucks. What is new and novel about the 3.0L EcoDiesel, though, is its size, and the variety of vehicles that use it. It's the smallest engine, as far as displacement is concerned, currently offered in a large truck in the US, and, for 2014 and 2015, it is available in the Ram 1500 and the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Though it may be small, it's got muscle. While 240 horsepower isn't particularly impressive these days, the engine's 420 pound-feet of torque more than makes up for that. The torque rating is even greater force than even the big 5.7-liter Hemi can muster. Chrysler's well-regarded eight-speed automatic transmission makes the most of all that bull-headed pulling power in both the Ram and Grand Cherokee. Chrysler claims the Ram EcoDiesel 1500 can tow as much as 9,200 pounds when properly equipped, which makes it "90-percent of the Hemi with a night and day difference in fuel economy."
Make no mistake; it's that promise of a sizable fuel economy improvement that many long-haul truckers will be most interested in. In the Ram 1500 that we tested for our Tech of the Year competition, the diesel engine costs $2,850 more than the gas-fed V8, and Ram estimates that EcoDiesel buyers will pay off their investment when compared to the Hemi engine in less than three years, which is considerably less time than the 4.5 or so years the average buyer will keep his or her fullsize pickup. The more you drive, the more you'll save, and the math proves equally as effective in the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

7 months later, Jeep 'trailer hitch' recall still stalled

Tue, 14 Jan 2014

For the past few years, Chrysler and its CEO, Sergio Marchionne, have gone head-to-head with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and its boss, David Strickland, over the government safety agency's request for Chrysler to recall almost three-million Jeep vehicles due to what NHTSA says is a safety issue that has caused at least 51 deaths. After a three-year investigation and Chrysler's initial refusal to issue a recall because it deemed the vehicles safe and built to the day's federal requirements, last summer, the two parties compromised on a "voluntary campaign" to inspect 1.56 million vehicles, those being the 1992 to 1998 Grand Cherokee and 2002 to 2007 Liberty.
Those vehicles were designed with their gas tanks between the rear axle and the bumper, and NHTSA says that in rear-end collisions, damage to the fuel tank has caused fires responsible for those 51 deaths. The compromise reached last summer was that Chrysler would inspect 1.56 million vehicles and, "if necessary, provide an upgrade to the rear structure of the vehicle." Practically speaking, that meant Chrysler would replace aftermarket trailer hitches, but would take no action if a vehicle had a factory-installed hitch or an aftermarket hitch from Mopar.
A report in The Detroit News says the "voluntary campaign" is just now getting under way, with Chrysler saying last week that the design of the replacement part had been finalized and it was tooling up "to deliver the required volume." Seven months later, still in question is whether NHTSA will crash-test the fix engineered by Chrysler, noteworthy because not only did the vehicles in question pass every safety standard necessary to be cleared for sale at the time, there are still questions (to those of us on the outside) as to how the Jeeps at issue fare among their peers in such incidents. Either way, Chrysler and NHTSA apparently still disagree on the efficacy of the remedy itself: the carmaker says it might help in low-speed crashes but not high-speed collisions, a position the NHTSA is at odds with. All of this means the campaign doesn't yet have an end in sight.
