1984 Jeep CJ7 Laredo

This 3 owner 1984 Jeep CJ7 Laredo is a beautiful classic and original rust free California Jeep.  It spent the last 20 years in the desert of California before I brought it back with me to Colorado in February.  The engine is incredible and has so much power that I can easily travel 70mph driving over the mountain passes here in Colorado comfortably.  The custom Rear Dana 60 Differential can withstand the power of the V8 all day long!  It is also set up to perfectly to conquer the most difficult terrain possible.  This CJ7 Laredo is ready to be driven daily, on the weekends or in the mountains and I wouldn't be afraid to drive this Jeep anywhere.

Engine:
Rebuilt 1990 Chevrolet 350 5.7L V8 with Throttle Body Injection.  The Jeep runs incredible, sounds fantastic and it doesn't matter if it is cold or hot outside it fires right up thanks to it being fuel injected.  It runs great, is super peppy and doesn't leak any fluids.  I recently upgraded the radiator with a new Aluminum unit and relocated the overflow radiator tank closer to it since there is no longer a starter solenoid on the passenger fender.  I also replaced the spark plugs last week.

Transmission/Transfer Case:
700R4 Automatic Transmission with overdrive is excellent.  It shifts great, without play, grinding, slipping or crunching.  It has a rachet shifter on it that makes shifting super easy.  The transfer case is a Dana 300 and has a small drip.  It easily goes into gear high and low range 4wheel drive.

Drivetrain/suspension:
The Jeep drives excellent with the lift.  The front suspension is a reverse shackle conversion that makes driving enjoyable especially with a lifted Jeep.  The sway bar has disconnects which is great for off road driving.  Each leaf spring has U bolt skid plates so you will never have to worry about breaking a u bolt.  The drivetrain is perfectly set up with ARB Air locking differentials, 4.11 gears and chromoly shafts and heavy duty ujoints.  The power steering is super sensitive and drives like a Jeep but seems to drive easy to me.  The power brake booster needs replacement.  The brakes work ok but don't have much boost at startup however after it is driven and warmed up it is much better.  I have driven this Jeep 600 miles without issues.

Interior Controls/Switches:
Everything in the interior works great except the factory tach and intermittently the windshield wipers.  Sometimes I'm noticing on the speedometer the ebrake light appearing at startup then goes away after driving a bit.  There is an aftermarket tach on the steering column that works great.  The sony CD player/radio is in the center console.  There are front dash speakers and rear 6x9s by the roll bar.  The Tuffy console adds security however I do not have the key for it.  The fuel, speedometer, heater odometer, blinkers, horn, lights etc all work as well.

Paint/Body/Rust:
The paint is the original Black and original Laredo Striping.  The paint is beautiful and very reflective, shiny and lots of luster but still 30 years old and has minor blemishes.  The hood has some small dings, a line crease from where it was rested on the windshield frame at one point.  The rear fender flares are a custom fit and from a Jeep Wrangler YJ.  The Jeep is rust free except for some minor surface rust spots on the windshield frame hinges etc.  It also has some rock chips on the windshield frame.  The frame is rust free and has never been repaired.  Behind the passenger rear flare there is some cracking, it is hard to tell if it was body work at one point or if from flexing the body off road but I am unsure exactly.

Interior:
The interior is nice, the front captains chairs are aftermarket black vinyl.  They are only a couple months old and in excellent condition. There is no rear seat or carpet.  The inside of the tub has been bed lined.  The dash pad is very clean and I do not have a rear seat however one can easily be added if you chose to want one.  You can get one to match the front seats too.

Soft Top/Doors:
The black Bestop Sunrider soft top is in excellent condition and was purchased 4 months ago.  The sunrider is unique in that you can open the front area like a sunroof without removing the entire top.  The original doors do not have any rust, the windows roll up and down very easily.  Unfortunately I do not have a key for the doors.  The wing windows open and close with ease and the seal tight. The doors interior panels are great, both door have a few scratches, sand chips and the drivers side has a little defect pushed in (view all pictures).

Overall:
This is a beautiful Jeep and ready to go and a classic that is turn key and ready to go.  It would make the perfect weekend warrior, beach runner or mountain adventurer.   The CJ7 is used and 30 years old, it may have blemishes, scratches, nicks etc that I didn't capture on my camera.  Overall the condition is beautiful!  I do my best to illustrate the condition, I may have missed something so be sure to ask all questions you have prior to bidding or winning the Jeep.  The Jeep is being sold as is, where is, without warranty or guarantees.  I am not required for your state emission or safety inspections including Colorado.

Shipping:
If you are out of state and need to have this Jeep shipped, call M&E Auto Transport #606-354-3643.  Michael is great to work with and offers competitive pricing, quick pickup and delivery.  He helped me ship this Jeep back to Colorado from California in February.

Conclusion:
A $500 non refundable deposit is due within 24 hours of the conclusion of the auction via paypal.  All sales are final.  The final payment must be received within 7 days of auction end time.  Payment options include cash upon pickup, Electronic Bank Transfer or Wire Transfer.  I have sold multiple cars on ebay and can provide references if necessary.  I reserve the right to remove the auction at anytime as this Jeep is listed for sale locally as well.

Toledo continues fight for Jeep Wrangler production, despite mayor's death

Thu, Feb 19 2015

Where will the next-generation Jeep Wrangler be built? That's an open question, but it's one that the city of Toledo, OH desperately wants to be the answer to. The city suffered a major blow, though, with the death of Mayor Michael Collins earlier this month. Collins had been the city's biggest champion during talks with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, before suffering a fatal heart attack on Feb. 6. But Collins' tragic death isn't dampening the city's desire to carry on as the home of the Wrangler. "The mayor's passing is tragic. But on Monday, when I came to work, I knew exactly what I needed to do and exactly what needed to be done," the city's director of development, Matt Sapara, told the Detroit Free Press. According to the Freep, Sapara said Toledo and the state of Ohio have delivered an outline of a development plan that would give FCA the ability to buy an extra 100 acres to expand the factory. This is to help accommodate FCA's targeted output of 300,000 to 350,000 next-generation Wranglers, up from the 240,000 the factory can make now. "Our target in the proposal is to provide a way to increase the production capacity to a number that allows Fiat Chrysler to meet its business model," Sapara told the Freep, adding that the land could be available later this summer. FCA, meanwhile, has shown a somewhat ambivalent attitude towards Toledo production, with CEO Sergio Marchionne openly discussing the pros and cons of continuing to build the Wrangler south of the Michigan border. "We are going to take a very hard look at this without ignoring what these guys have done," Marchionne told the Free Press at last month's Detroit Auto Show, adding that he'd like to keep production there, provided the cost of retooling is comparable to relocating to another facility. 2022 New York Auto Show Roundup | All the reveals, reviews, pictures

Fri, Apr 15 2022

NEW YORK — In case you missed it, the New York Auto Show took place this year after being canceled in both 2020 and 2021 due to Covid. A lot of manufacturers showed up in force, but not everybody did. No matter, we were there, and we brought you news, photos and scoops from the floor throughout the show. All of our New York-related stories can be found at our central hub here, but if youÂ’d rather just get a small taste of everything in a quick and digestible format, keep scrolling. 2023 Kia Telluride and its new X-Pro trim Kia revealed the TellurideÂ’s first major refresh at New York, and it makes the three-row crossover a little bit more desirable without screwing up what we liked about it before. ThereÂ’s a new X-Line and X-Pro trim for someone who might want a little more off-road capability, and a number of tech improvements. Most notably, a newly-designed dash features new and bigger screens. 2023 Hyundai Palisade The TellurideÂ’s sister car from Hyundai was treated to a similar refresh. Like the Telluride, Hyundai gave the Palisade a slightly revised look, a new off-road trim (called XRT in the PalisadeÂ’s case), more tech inside and a new dash design with full-width air vents. If we had to choose, weÂ’re a little more impressed with the TellurideÂ’s refresh, as a number of us on staff actually prefer the pre-refresh Palisade styling over the new one. 2023 Jeep Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L This one was inevitable. Jeep revealed the longer, roomier versions of its Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer in New York, and theyÂ’re designated with an “L” at the end of their names. Total length grows by a foot, and the wheelbase goes up by 7 inches versus the standard Wagoneer models. Jeep has essentially allocated all this extra room to the cargo area, as it now offers a staggering 44.2 cubic-feet of space behind the third row. Besides the L, Jeep announced that its new Hurricane inline-six engine would find its first home in the Wagoneer. Efficiency gets a small boost, and power is more than sufficient at either 420 horsepower (standard output) or 510 horsepower (high-output version) from the twin-turbo I-6. Chrysler Airflow Graphite Concept The Stellantis party continues with Chrysler and its slightly revised Airflow. Re-styled for the New York market after initially debuting at CES in Las Vegas, the Airflow Concept gets new paint, changed accent colors, a slightly changed interior design and a new interpretation of the Chrysler logo.

7 months later, Jeep 'trailer hitch' recall still stalled

Tue, 14 Jan 2014

For the past few years, Chrysler and its CEO, Sergio Marchionne, have gone head-to-head with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and its boss, David Strickland, over the government safety agency's request for Chrysler to recall almost three-million Jeep vehicles due to what NHTSA says is a safety issue that has caused at least 51 deaths. After a three-year investigation and Chrysler's initial refusal to issue a recall because it deemed the vehicles safe and built to the day's federal requirements, last summer, the two parties compromised on a "voluntary campaign" to inspect 1.56 million vehicles, those being the 1992 to 1998 Grand Cherokee and 2002 to 2007 Liberty.
Those vehicles were designed with their gas tanks between the rear axle and the bumper, and NHTSA says that in rear-end collisions, damage to the fuel tank has caused fires responsible for those 51 deaths. The compromise reached last summer was that Chrysler would inspect 1.56 million vehicles and, "if necessary, provide an upgrade to the rear structure of the vehicle." Practically speaking, that meant Chrysler would replace aftermarket trailer hitches, but would take no action if a vehicle had a factory-installed hitch or an aftermarket hitch from Mopar.
A report in The Detroit News says the "voluntary campaign" is just now getting under way, with Chrysler saying last week that the design of the replacement part had been finalized and it was tooling up "to deliver the required volume." Seven months later, still in question is whether NHTSA will crash-test the fix engineered by Chrysler, noteworthy because not only did the vehicles in question pass every safety standard necessary to be cleared for sale at the time, there are still questions (to those of us on the outside) as to how the Jeeps at issue fare among their peers in such incidents. Either way, Chrysler and NHTSA apparently still disagree on the efficacy of the remedy itself: the carmaker says it might help in low-speed crashes but not high-speed collisions, a position the NHTSA is at odds with. All of this means the campaign doesn't yet have an end in sight.
