It may not have been known as a Jeep just yet, but it was all the way back in 1941 that the very first Willys MB quarter-ton 4x4 rolled down the assembly line in Toledo, Ohio. That General Purpose American military machine would go on to become one of the most recognizable vehicles in the world. And the name Jeep, which was adopted for the off-roader by soldiers in World War II, has been famous ever since. In the 75 years since that first military Jeep was born, the brand has built a sterling reputation for off-road prowess. Jeep's range-topping vehicle, the Grand Cherokee, bears almost no resemblance to its military forebears. But that doesn't mean it's not ready to leave the pavement and get dirty. See what we mean in our latest Autoblog VR episode. That wasn't the only Jeep vehicle we took for a spin while celebrating the brand's 75th anniversary at the Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah. Jeep fans have been salivating over the prospect of a pickup truck for years, and the company has finally confirmed that it's coming as a 2018 model. It will be built at Jeep's spiritual home in Toledo, Ohio, the same city that spawned the company's military roots. Even though Jeep's Crew Chief Concept isn't the actual pickup that will go into production, it's still an awesome ride, and we were happy our virtual-reality camera gear could capture it in its natural habitat. 2015 Ford F-150 named Truck of Texas, Lincoln and Jeep also awarded at Truck Rodeo

The Ford Motor Company has a lot of reasons to celebrate after winning eight categories in this year's Texas Auto Writers Association's annual Truck Rodeo. Most important among them, the Blue Oval's latest 2015 Ford F-150 earned the prestigious Truck of Texas award, ending the Ram 1500's two-year winning streak. The 2015 Lincoln MKC also grabbed the honor as the CUV of Texas, and Ford was named Truck Line of Texas.
FoMoCo even took trophies for best technology with its extensive use of aluminum on its latest F-Series and best commercial vehicle for the new Transit 250. It wasn't a total sweep, though, because the Jeep Grand Cherokee grabbed the title of the SUV of Texas for the fifth straight time.
This year's event put 60 auto writers in 75 pickups, SUVs and crossovers and challenged them to find the best in a plethora of categories. All of the winners are listed below, and scroll down to read the full announcements from the Texas Auto Writers Association and Ford.

AEV Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon

After their rented 2007 Hummer H3 failed them during the brutal Rallye Aicha des Gazelles in Morocco, Amy Lerner and her sister Tricia Reina were on a quest to find the most capable production off-roader for their next competition - they chose a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. Their next mission was to find a company with the competence to configure it to win. After poring over Internet forums and perusing countless magazines for an outfitter who could meet their demanding requirements, they sent their bright orange JK ("Crush" is the official color) to American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) for some modifications.
The Michigan-based team at AEV kept the Jeep's 3.6-liter V6 and automatic transmission stock, but replaced the hood with a tall AEV Heat Reduction Hood and added an AEV Snorkel Kit for water crossings (it serves double-duty as its raised height helps to keep the air intake out of the kicked-up dust on the trail). Front and rear off-road bumpers were bolted in place, and AEV skid plates were added to provide additional undercarriage protection. A pair of IPF-900 off-road lights improve visibility, while a 10.2-gallon AEV Fuel Caddy (located behind the exterior spare) added some range. The suspension was upgraded with a 3.5-inch lift kit with Bilstein remote reservoir shocks, and 35-inch Falken Wildpeak A/T tires (LT285/70R17) were mounted at all four corners on AEV's beadlock wheels.
