For sale is this super awesome Black on Black 1974 CJ5 Renegade. This is a RARE Black paint with Black stripe Renegade. I have never seen a black with black stripe CJ. The stripes look white in pictures because they are faded. I have tried to find pics of a black with black stripe renegade and cannot find any. I would love to see an original AMC pic of one. If you have one please send to me. This Also has owner Made chrome front bumper and rear bumperettes. Had Chrome mirrors, wheels and headers back in the day..... Man she was a looker! and POWERFULL!

This original CJ has a factory v8 304 with a 3 speed and heavy duty Renegade springs. The previous owner parked it in 1983 right after he had a new clutch put in and trans rebuilt. The clutch linkage fell out and that is where he left it for 31 years!!! I pulled it right from that spot. I put all new clutch linkage, radiator, alternator, water pump, starter, battery, battery cables, shackles, bushings, rancho shocks, fender flares, steering wheel, master cylinder for brakes, rebuilt brakes as needed, rebuilt the 4BBL carter carb. It also has a rare Edelbrock SP2-P intake. New sidepipes, seats, seat slider (drivers) and water temp and oil pressure gauge. I installed a new gas tank and all fuel lines and new fuel pump. I also found the correct 5 slot wheels and put 32x11.50x15 BFG All Terrains on it.  There is no spare tire carrier, I have been looking for the correct one. (If you are reading this and have the correct one you would like to sell, please contact me. It has to have the kickout for the upper reinforcement channel at top of back panel).

There is also a older but very good shape Kayline soft top included in the deal and the original and VERY rare dash pad. This jeep has all the correct emblems, the original Jeep key, and extra custom made under seat gas tank. This tank will need to be hooked back up, there is a front/rear gas tank valve on driver floor that is frozen. The original gas tank skid plate is also included, but is rusted. She has all original lenses, lights, uncut dash and aftermarket old school roll cage.

The body has original paint and stripes. There is NO rust through on floors, Only small pitting. There is bubbling on passenger side under door (look at pic) and next to taillights (look at pic). This jeep is as original unrestored as I could keep it and still make it drivable. The previous owner said he had "some high performance motor work done to it" he could not remember or tell me what..... but SHE MOVES!!! very strong and always brings a grin to your face. The sound of the side pipes and the hurst handle, sooooo cool. If you love CJ's and into Patina and love to set off car alarms when you drive by..... THIS IS YOUR CJ!

Obviously I can't say enough about this CJ. Only in AZ do you get that perfect Patina with out being rusted out. Drives like a 74 CJ should. Stops like it has 4 wheel drum brakes, and has more power than a short wheelbase CJ should. I have invested quite a bit of time and money into bringing her back to life. This is NOT a Jeep for a 16 year old driver. I have had more than a few Dads want to buy my jeeps for their 16 year old kids. This IS NOT ONE OF THEM. IF you have driven a early CJ you know what I mean.

I restore Jeep for a living and have sold all over the US and overseas. This Jeep has a Clean and clear Arizona "A" title. It is even the small OLD 1978 title that is still in the second owners name (it is open and ready for your name) Shipping is up to the buyer. Please quote from 85027. I will deliver the Jeep to any automotive carrier in the Phoenix valley at no charge to the buyer. I require a 250.00 Non refundable deposit with in 24hrs of the end of auction. I will accept Pay-Pal for this part only. The remainder of the amount due is to be paid by Cashiers Check, Bank Check or (the easiest way) Wire transfer. I keep a account open at Wells Fargo just for this purpose. It is painless and easy. As soon as the money clears I will Fed Ex the title to you and we can set up delivery of your CJ. It is also available for pickup if you desire.

This is a AMAZING early gen Renegade. Perfect for the collector or jeep lover. I really hate to sell her but.....that's what I do. I REALLY wish I could keep this one for me, but I cannot, so she goes to the next Jeep nut.

Feds fretting over remote hack of Jeep Cherokee

Fri, Jul 24 2015

A cyber-security gap that allowed for the remote hacking of a Jeep Cherokee has federal officials concerned. An associate administrator with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Thursday that news of the breach conducted by researchers Chris Valasek and Charlie Miller had "floated around the entire federal government." "The Homeland Security folks sent out broadcasts that, 'Here's an issue that needs to be addressed,'" said Nathaniel Beuse, an associate administrator with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Valasek and Miller commandeered remote control of the Cherokee through a security flaw in the cellular connection to the car's Uconnect infotainment system. From his Pittsburgh home, Valasek manipulated critical safety inputs, such as transmission function, on Miller's Jeep as he drove along a highway near St. Louis, MO. The scope of the remote breach is believed to be the first of its kind. The prominent cyber-security researchers needed no prior access to the vehicle to perform the hack, and the scope of the remote breach is believed to be the first of its kind. A NHTSA spokesperson said the agency's cyber-security staff members are "putting their expertise to work assessing this threat and the response, and we will take action if we determine it's necessary to protect safety." A Homeland Security spokesperson referred questions about the hack to Chrysler. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has already been the subject of a federal hearing this month, in which officials scrutinized whether the company had adequately fixed recalled vehicles and repeatedly failed to notify the government about defects. But cyber-security concerns are a new and different species for the regulatory agency. Only hours before the Jeep hack was announced by Wired magazine earlier this week, NHTSA administrator Dr. Mark Rosekind said hacking vulnerabilities were a threat to privacy, safety, and the public's trust with new connected and autonomous technologies that allow vehicles to communicate. NHTSA outlined its response to the cyber-security challenges facing the industry in a report issued Tuesday. In it, the agency summarized its best practices for thwarting attacks and said it will analyze possible real-time infiltration responses. But the agency's ability to handle hackers may only go so far.

FCA facing class-action lawsuit over Grand Cherokee shifters

Fri, Jun 24 2016

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is now facing a multi-million-dollar class-action lawsuit over the recalled shifter design in the 2014 and 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the 2012 to 2014 Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300. Grand Cherokee owners, galvanized by Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin's fatal accident, filed the suit. According to The Wall Street Journal, the owners allege that FCA concealed the shifter's problems. On top of restitution, the class action suit is demanding a court order force FCA to issue a do-not-drive warning to owners of affected vehicles until it fixes the problem. FCA started distributing a software fix to dealers last week – according to the WSJ, the update will add more warnings about the shifter's position and will automatically kick the vehicle into park if the driver steps out. FCA's shifter problems have been bubbling under the surface as part of the company's recall issues. The US government dinged FCA with a $105 million fine last year for its recall practices (or lack thereof) last year, but things have exploded this week after Yelchin's death. The 27-year-old, best known for playing Ensign Pavel Chekov in the rebooted Star Trek film series, was killed after his 2015 Grand Cherokee rolled down his driveway and pinned the actor against a security gate. According to Jeep CEO Mike Manley, the company will dispatch engineers to analyze Yelchin's vehicle. Related Video:

'84 MotorWeek Cherokee, Bronco and Blazer comparison indulges your SUV nostalgia

Fri, Jan 16 2015

These days, truck-based, full-frame SUVs are somewhat of a rarity on the auto landscape due to the rapid rise in popularity of easier-driving, car-based crossovers. Although, without the gradually building popularity of these chunky, high-riding vehicles decades ago, it's unlikely that America's roads would be filled with so many CUVs today. In its latest dig into the archives, MotorWeek has found a 1984 comparison test of a trio of these early Sport Utility Wagons, as long-time host John Davis called them, that helped get acceptance of this segment going. This is a red, white and blue test of the SUVs from American automakers at the time and pits the Chevrolet Blazer, Ford Bronco and Jeep Cherokee (specifically in Wagoneer guise) against each other. Driving manners and interior usability are considered in the evaluation, but Motorweek actually takes these vehicles off road, too. Among the bigger revelations is the improvement in on-road ability in the past 30 years. While specific 0-60 times aren't given, all three models take around 10 seconds just to get to around 50 miles per hour in the 500-feet on-ramp acceleration test. Check out this clip to see just how far this segment has progressed in the past three decades or just get a blast of nostalgia from these now vintage models.
