1973 Jeep CJ-6 / 4x4

The Jeep CJ-6 was introduced for 1956, and was in production for just under 20 years. It was essentially identical to the classic CJ-5, just stretched by a massive 20 inches. This longer 101” wheelbase added substantial cargo space to the vehicle and was our answer to the endless requests for a roomier vehicle.

In 1965, the CJ-6 benefited from the same “Dauntless” V6 engine as the CJ-5, which meant a tremendous 155 horsepower (practically double that of the base engine) was now on tap for those who opted for it. This quest for power took another step forward in 1973, when parent company AMC shoved a 304-cubic-inch V8 (or the optional 360-cubic-inch) under the hoods of all CJ models. AMC also improved the rest of the vehicle by equipped heavier axles, bigger brakes and a wider track.

The CJ-6 was loved by the people in need of the extra space and comfortable ride suspension. Only 50,172 units over the course of its two-decade life. This model is entering the collector’s model and due the low production numbers will be a sought after truck.

This particular model rolled off the assembly line as a fully loaded Jeep with all the options available at the time. Power steering, power brakes, the 360 V-8 motor were the only factory upgrades you could have gotten and this one has them all.

I have owned this Jeep for years now and have babied it until today. It has all the extra options and goodies anyone could want like air lockers for the snow or mud.

This Jeep rides and handles like a dream! It has a very smooth (non-bouncy suspension) that makes it very stable and a joy to drive unlike the CJ5’s and 7’s.

It has the tough T-18 transmission with granny gear that will not break!

It has a top of the line clean sound system you can find out there with a 6 speaker and tweeter and dual amps and bass box in rear setup (it’s really sweet).

It comes with a lightweight vintage camping trailer so that you can haul all your gear when you want to go up in high country.

It would truly take me a very long time to itemize the entire laundry list of great new add on’s that has gone into this ride. (trust me you wont be disappointed, come check it out for yourself)

I have no choice but to sell this sweet ride because I have leased my warehouse and my collector cars have to go. Here is your chance for a real deal at my loss.

Chrysler investigating complaints of vehicles with faulty power modules

Sun, 24 Aug 2014

Chrysler owners are hopping mad after experiencing a series of electrical gremlins in some of the company's vehicles. Issues range from mere annoyances - windows rolling down and radios turning off of their own accord - to serious safety issues, with headlights that randomly shut off at night and cars that stall and refuse to start.
The issues are being blamed on the total integrated power module, which can cost up to $1,000 for customers to replace. This, of course, has led to a hefty batch of complaints to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, with 240 owners expressing their displeasure so far. Another site, CarComplaints.com, has registered over 300 complaints relating to the 2010 to 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango, alone, according to The New York Times.
Chrysler has acknowledged that it's investigating the complaints and is analyzing the faulty TIPMs, but that isn't quite enough for customers of the affected vehicles. The newspaper has snagged a few of the more harrowing tales with the electrically challenged Chrysler products, culled from the NHTSA complaints.

Crawling Moab in the 2015 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk [w/video]

Thu, Apr 9 2015

The funny thing about the Renegade Trailhawk is that Jeep still feels the need to defend it. For the past 20 years, automakers have sent emissary vehicles outside the citadel walls surrounding their brand niche. In doing so, these companies found buyers eager to join the cult instead of an angry horde. With the kingdom successfully expanded, automakers had to build new walls to contain this broader identity. This is the story of Jeep's modern expansion, growing with new models while the faithful at the brand's center howl at every quest into broader market segments. Thirteen years after it busted out the Liberty and eight years after birthing the Compass and Patriot, you'd think the resistance to new Jeeps would subside. But no. It's 2015, and while nobody makes the slightest tantrum over BMW's new minivan (except for Sniff Petrol), the Renegade still has to fight its way through pitchforks and torches. Which is a long way of saying that this author is guilty of brand prejudice, too. When the company told us that we'd spend the first day of the Easter Jeep Safari driving seven awesome concepts and the second day driving the Renegade Trailhawk on Dome Point Trail, we could only think, "They giveth excitement, and they taketh it away." Our pessimism was later proven to be incorrect. Sharing the sentiment our colleague Brandon Turkus expressed after his Quick Spin, we found the Renegade to be "in a word, impressive." Dome Point will not trouble a kitted-out Wrangler, but in a compact SUV with on-road tires the rocky sections were chunky enough to require close attention to your lines or use a spotter. As instructed, we put the little 4x4 into the Selec-Terrain's Rock mode, and with common sense plus one eye on the man directing us with hand signals the Renegade climbed over everything with some wheelspin but little fuss. At the first rest point, we turned the car off to wait for vehicles behind. Not realizing that this resets the drive mode to Auto, we crawled through the next two rocky jumbles in the default setting. The result was the same: a bit of wheelspin climbing over thick steps, but an altogether drama-free passage. Auto mode can't use the engine throttle maps unique to each Selec-Terrain setting, but it doesn't hamper the Renegade's capability by much. On a steep bit of trail with a crest capped by stacked stone plinths, it took three tries to find the right line, but that's on us – the Renegade did more than expected.

Watch this 840-hp Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 walk away from GT-Rs and M3s

Thu, Dec 11 2014

This last-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 does things that SUVs just shouldn't be able to do, like win drag races against tuned Nissan GT-R and BMW M3 coupes. Granted, the owner isn't coming into this fight with a stock Jeep – far from it. In addition to twin turbos whistling away, he says the engine is a 449-cubic-inch V8, which is nearly 7.4 liters of displacement. As it runs here, the driver claims that the turbos are pumping out around 14 psi of boost to give an estimated 840 horsepower. What's more, he further maintains the powertrain could reach around 1,200 hp with things fully cranked up. Even somewhat dialed back, this Jeep is ready to take on a breadth of formidable challengers, including a couple of Chevrolet Corvette models and a Lamborghini Aventador. Check out the video to see how this menacing Grand Cherokee fares in a day at the races.
