This is a fun little Jeep.  It starts right up (brand new battery and tune up) and runs excellently.  It has free flow headers and  dual exhaust, so it seems to have more power than the original cast iron manifolds.  I have the original exhaust manifolds if you want them to bring it back to original.  This is an early 1970 model as it was built by Kaiser and not AMC.  It has the original Buick Dauntless 225 V-6 and it is dry - no oil leaks what-so-ever.  When I got it 6 years ago it was missing many parts which I found and put on.  Namely, the parking brake handle and cables, the horn button, and horn contacts wire.  The original turn signal didn't work so I bought another and with the two made one good turn signal that works.  The wiper motor wasn't working so I replaced it.  (I have the other wiper that is not in the picture).  No turn signals (lights, bulbs and lenses) were there so I got new ones and put them on.  There is no turn signal on the passenger's side rear as originally there was a spare tire mounted there.  I put on a new front bumper, new chrome headlight bezels, and other chrome pieces replaced - hood latches and strap buckles.  It had no side view mirror so I got the correct style mirror.  New switch knobs, new gauge cluster with all new gauges, new fuel tank sending unit so the gas gauge works.  The glove box door was missing so I found one and put it on.  The two front seats are new Bestop seats, although a mechanic put a cigarette burn in the seat of the driver's side.  I added front seat belts - the kind that stand up on their own, so you don't have to go reaching and fiddling for them.  I put on a new steering gearbox so the steering is tight.  Also shocks and a front steering stabilizer shock.  I also replaced the transfer case and the 4 wheel drive works fine as do the manual hub lockouts.  I replaced a brown bikini top with the black one that's on there now as it looks better.  I took pictures of some half doors I received when I bought the Jeep, and just hosed them down to clean them as I haven't used them, but they go with the Jeep.  I replaced the brake and clutch pedal pads, but left the original gas pedal as it still looks great.  This is one way you can tell it has such low mileage - the gas pedal has minimal wear...  I took pictures of wheel wells and the inside so you can see there is no rust out ( just some surface rust).  As you can see the green in the interior is the original color.  Some one painted it red and then the black.  I know it was painted red since who ever painted it black did a lousy job of prepping and now some paint is chipping off.  This is I would say the only bad feature.  I said it was rust free, but there is a little rust in the floor of the passenger side toolbox (under the seat you can see the lid), but it is not bad and still holds tools if you care to put any there.  I have a boot and the boot hold down for the stick shift but didn't find it in time for pictures.  It looks to have a 3 or 4 inch lift which was done before I got it, but that just makes it better and able to handle those big tires.  I added the "4 wheel drive" decal to the tailgate (as original) and have "Jeep" decals for the front doglegs where Jeep is stamped, but haven't put them on.  I even put a "necker's knob on to help steer as there is no power steering or for that matter, no power brakes, heater, air conditioner or radio.  This Jeep is from the day when guys with hairy chests bought them...

Well, it's a very small vehicle and I wrote up a lot about it so I probably have covered it all, but if not, feel free to email with questions.  Needless to say, I have a lot more than the starting price in this Jeep, but I am going to let it go for what the market will bear.  I just used it all weekend for dragging logs off my property and it was a blast.

Jeep Cherokee Trail Carver is a more rugged Trailhawk

Wed, 06 Nov 2013

We briefly mentioned the Jeep Cherokee Trail Carver that was heading to SEMA last week when discussing the Mopar lineup set to be shown in Las Vegas. At the time, though, we weren't able to dive too deeply into details. But with SEMA in full swing, we were able to sneak over and grab some snaps of one of the first modified Cherokees we've seen. The Cherokee is, after all, kind of an unknown quantity in the modification department, being so new and featuring such a polarizing design. We were quite interested to see what Mopar could come up with.
Starting with the Trailhawk 4x4 and its 3.2-liter V6, the engine is fitted with a Mopar cold-air intake and a new exhaust, although it's not clear what sort of power boost has resulted. We'll admit, we were hoping Jeep and Mopar would get a bit more aggressive with the Cherokee's suspension (has anyone thrown a few-inch lift on the new Jeep yet?), but there's no mention of upgrades beyond the knobby, off-road tires. Those should do some good when the going gets rough, while rock rails are there to protect the Auburn Pearl paint on the body.
Speaking of that paint, it's complemented by an interesting graphics package in contrasting black and Crush Orange. The cabin sports Katzkin Amaretto leather seats, along with tech-friendly items like a wireless charging system for cellphones and wireless internet.

Stellantis says its 2021 performance has been better than expected

Thu, Jul 8 2021

MILAN — Stellantis softened up investors ahead of its electrification strategy event on Thursday by flagging that 2021 got off to a better-than-expected start despite a chip shortage that has hit automakers worldwide. Stellantis, which was formed in January from the merger of Italian-American automaker Fiat Chrysler and France's PSA, faces an investor community keen to hear how it plans to come up with a range of electrified vehicles (EVs) to rival Tesla. At its "EV Day 2021" kicking off at 1230 GMT, Stellantis will disclose significant investments in electrification technology and connected software as it aims to be an industry frontrunner, it said in a statement. In April, Chief Executive Carlos Tavares said it would offer low-emission versions — either battery or hybrid electric — of almost all of its European models by 2025, and they should make up 70% of European sales and 35% of U.S. sales by 2030. Stellantis, the world's fourth-biggest automaker, has 14 brands in its stable, including Jeep, Ram, Opel, Fiat, Peugeot and Maserati.   Stellantis EV Day coverage: Dodge will launch the 'world's first electric muscle car' in 2024 Fully electric Ram 1500 will begin production in 2024 Jeep will have 4xe plug-in hybrid models across the lineup by 2025 Stellantis teases mystery electric Chrysler concept Stellantis previews 4 electric platforms: Here's how they'll be used Fiat says all Abarth models to be electric from 2024 Opel Manta E will be the electric revival of the classic German coupe Stellantis says its 2021 performance has been better than expected   At a similar EV strategy event last week, French rival Renault announced that 90% of its main brand models would be all-electric by 2030, whereas previously it had included hybrids in its target. Germany's Volkswagen, the world's second-biggest automaker after Toyota, expects all-electric vehicles to make up 55% of its total sales in Europe by 2030, and more than 70% of sales at its Volkswagen brand. Stellantis said its margins on adjusted operating profits in the first half of 2021 were expected to exceed an annual target of between 5.5% and 7.5%, despite production losses due to a global shortage of semiconductor supplies. Stellantis shares listed in Milan were down 2.6% at 0920 GMT, underperforming the broader European car index. Bestinver analyst Marco Opipari said Thursday's news was positive but that the stock was suffering from profit taking as it had moved up about 20% since the end of April.

Baby Jeep to join Renegade in FCA's plan for new Italian-built models

Tue, Nov 27 2018

FCA is boosting its European production, introducing new models that will be built in currently under-utilized manufacturing facilities. Among the new models is a new small Jeep, smaller than the current Renegade, as Automotive News reports. FCA's Mike Manley mentioned the entry-level Jeep model earlier this year, also saying that the vehicle is targeted to European and possibly Latin American customers; in the summer, Autocar placed the launch date in 2022. The new "baby" Jeep would be made in the same factory in Pomigliano, Italy, as the small Fiat Panda, which is a top seller in Italy. The current generation Panda was introduced in 2011; if it gets a replacement in 2022, it could possibly share a platform with the Jeep model — or, the Jeep could be an eventual outright replacement for the Panda. One of Fiat's earlier core products, the Punto hatchback, was canned in August, and that production capacity will be used to make the Jeep Compass instead, at the Renegade-producing Melfi factory in southern Italy. The Compass has not previously been built in Europe. The Fiat model portfolio would be shrunk to just the 500 model family and the Panda — the 500 would also be FCA's key electric vehicle offered in Europe. It is not yet clear whether the electric 500 would be made in Turin, Italy, or in Poland; Turin might also get a Giardiniera-badged wagon version of the refreshed 500. As for the Alfa Romeo brand, it is set to gain an even bigger SUV model than the Stelvio, based on the Maserati Levante's platform. The Levante's sales have suffered recently in China, but Maserati does have light in the horizon: The Alfieri 2+2 grand tourer is still in the cards, with a launch expected for 2020 and both a convertible and an electrified version planned to follow. The Alfieri would be made in Modena, Italy, according to Automotive News' sources. None of these plans namedrop the storied Lancia brand, which has been shrunk to just the Ypsilon hatchback, based on the same platform as the current 500 and Panda. Despite that, the Ypsilon was again the second-bestselling car in Italy after the Panda in October. It is unlikely that FCA will be able to ignore this, but it is just as unlikely that any development money will be afforded to come up with a replacement for the Ypsilon, which is as similarly old as the Panda. Perhaps official announcements expected on Thursday will also clarify what will happen to Lancia.
