This ‘XK8LSx’ is originally a California Car and is free of rust. With over 130,000 on the 97-2003 Jaguar motor, it seemed very prudent to swap this tired motor and transmission for a late model General Motors “LS1” power-train from a 2002 Pontiac Firebird. The motor and transmission were both completely rebuilt at a cost of over $4500 and have covered less than 4000 miles since the exchange.

The marriage of Jaguar design, luxury and suspension with the power and reliability of the LS1 has produced a unique, powerful car. You can read more about Jaguar engine upgrades at: http://www.jaguarspecialties.com/XK8-LSx.asp

THE GOOD-

The lowering and rear light/front grill updates make this Jaguar really stand out.

Additional upgrades this Jaguar has had include:

Staggered 18” Alloy wheels

Professionally lowered suspension with new shock absorbers

Gorgeous rear light modules blended into the Jaguar body

Stainless steel rear Mina exhaust

Aluminum grill reminiscent of the Aston Martin sister car

This car comes with 2 Master Keys and 2 remotes. The AC is freezing cold and the heating/cooling system upgraded to incorporate the GM water pump is extremely efficient. The Jaguar radio works although the current antenna is not connected. The power options work: seats, windows, mirrors, convertible top. The cruise control no longer works.

THE BAD-

There are a few door dings which can all be removed by Dentless Repair. There are a few minor scratches and stone chips as one could expect. There is a chip in the windscreen just to the right of the driver’s main vision area. The clear coat has dried on the brake light on top of the trunk lid (easy repair).

Inside the driver’s seat shows wear on the seam and the plastic cover is cracked. The interior rear-view mirror has lost its dimming capability and appears two tone at all times, but is functional.

THE UGLY-

Since the conversion the following warning lights appear in the Message Center: ABS (we suspect a broken wire since a recent wheel alignment), Stability Control Fail, Battery not charging.

Also, the rev counter and temperature gauge stick sometimes, although I understand a software download can rectify this. If not used regularly, the battery begins to discharge. I keep it on a trickle charger as I drive it infrequently.

The interior of this XK8 is in overall good shape. The leather looks good overall, but does show some wear and blemishes here and there.  The carpets are in good shape. The headliner has been cleaned and has a good overall look to it, but has a patina of age. It doesn't appear to have been smoked in as there is no odor. It has the typical light scuffs that you'd expect on a used vehicle, but it still has an overall good look to it, and it certainly looks to have been taken care of. Please take the time to look through the pictures and contact me with any questions or for additional pictures of specific items.

After several years of fun it is time to turn this car over to another enthusiast, perhaps it will be you.

Although mentioned above, this car was converted prior to the release of the Jaguar Specialties kit.

The few issues noted do not reflect the excellence of that kit. The link is provided for reference only.

Jaguar demanding customer data from reluctant dealers

Tue, 25 Feb 2014

Nearly every major business is collecting consumer data these days, and keeping that data secure has come to the forefront of many customer's minds. Jaguar Land Rover North America's decision to begin requesting more customer info from its dealer network appears unfortunately timed, however. If it had come a few years ago, it might have been ignored, but in today's climate of heightened awareness, a few dealers are pushing back. To put the showrooms in an even tougher position, JLR NA is threatening to deny quarterly incentives if they do not turn over the customer data, according to Automotive News.
JLR NA instated the nationwide plan, which it calls Single View CRM, on February 7, but according to Stuart Schorr, Jaguar Land Rover North America Vice President of Communications, the automaker has been negotiating with its dealers to institute the new program for over a year. Schorr tells Autoblog that no financial information is being shared, noting that such data is limited to customer details, including things like what vehicles they own and whether they have any pending service. The initiative is meant to "improve customers' and owners' engagement with the brand," he said. Also, the company is not accessing dealer data itself; instead showrooms are asked to enter the info into JLR's database.

1956 Jaguar D-Type could top $5M at Arizona auction

Fri, Oct 30 2015

The Jaguar D-Type is an essential element of the marque's history, one of its most successful racing cars, and one of its most beautiful creations. Chassis number XKD 604, pictured here, was the first of six long-nose Jaguar D-Types made for the factory team in 1956. They were, however, far from ubiquitous, with only 53 made for private customers, and another 18 campaigned by the factory racing team. More advanced than the examples that preceded it, this one was equipped with a de Dion rear suspension and fuel injection. It didn't have much of a distinguished racing career to speak of, passing from the factory to the Ecurie Ecosse team in Scotland which kept it in storage for years. After the team's closing, it passed through the hands of two British owners, undergoing a full restoration at the hands of the latter, before trading between two US owners. Although precise pre-sale estimates are available by request to interested parties, RM confirmed to Autoblog that this example "is expected to fetch more than $5 million when it crosses the auction podium in January." According to Sports Car Market, last year the same auction house sold a customer D-Type in Paris for nearly that much. However at its London auction in 2013, another works example failed to sell despite a high bid of over $6.2 million. If this one takes in more than that, it'll set a record for the type. If classic Jaguars aren't your thing, RM also has lined up an enviable roster of Ferraris. Included among them is a yellow '71 Daytona (estimated to fetch over $700k), a silver '91 Testarossa (~$250k), a rare yellow '95 F512 M (~$450k), and a pristine 2011 599 SA Aperta (~$1.3m). Porsche fans will want to check out the '76 911 Turbo (~$250k) and the soft-window '69 911 S Targa (~$225k). With the auction not set to take place until January 28 at the Arizona Biltmore, you can bet there'll be a good number of additional lots consigned between now and then.

Jaguar J-Pace crossover spied with diesel hybrid power

Thu, Jun 9 2016

The new Jaguar F-Pace is only now hitting dealerships, but the British automaker is already testing a bigger, higher-end example. Allegedly named J-Pace – tying it to the flagship XJ sedan the same way the F-Pace is to the XF (so expect an E-Pace before too long) – Jaguar's engineers stretched the wheelbase and cobbled together a big CUV from an F-Pace's body parts. The biggest giveaway is on the rear door's cutline. A normal F-Pace's shut line runs right into the middle of the rear wheel arch. But on this mule, the door closes well forward of the arch. Outside the axles, Jag has stretched the front overhang – it's far more prominent with a completely different lower intake – and the super-short rear overhang reinforces the idea that we're seeing a longer platform. While we know the wheelbase is longer than the normal F-Pace, the platform underpinning this mule could go one of three ways. First, in what would probably be the most cost-effective route, Jaguar could simply stretch the chassis underpinning the F-Pace. Second, Jag could mine the Land Rover parts bin for a fullsize platform, perhaps from the Range Rover. It's not a crazy idea, and would open the J-Pace to a more potent line of powertrains – hello 5.0-liter, supercharged V8. Finally, the J-Pace could borrow its platform from the XJ sedan. One reason this mule could be riding on a Land Rover platform is because of its powertrain. According to the vehicle lookup on the British Ministry of Transport's website – see the final slide in our gallery above – the mule's number plates belong to a vehicle with a 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine and an electric motor, a diesel hybrid. The fullsize Range Rover is available in such a configuration outside the US, but it uses a 3.0-liter V6. Clearly, the J-Pace is still very early in its development process. That means we shouldn't count on seeing a production-ready vehicle for quite some time. Our spies point to a 2019 debut as a 2020 model. We'll just have to wait and see.
