1955 Xk140se Roadster(ots) on 2040-cars
Holly, Michigan, United States
The car is beautiful. Starting with a running, tired, all numbers matching(per the Heritage certificate) car, the body was disassembled, braced, removed from the frame and placed on a custom dolly. It was then media blasted, Fairly minor rust was cut out, new metal continuous welded in and metal finished. Epoxy primer was applied inside and out. Then many, many hours were spent applying and blocking urethane surfacer. I'm very proud of how straight and flat the sides are and how smooth the curves are. The body was painted inside and out with Dupont basecoat/clearcoat then color sanded and polished. The gloss is evident in the pictures. The body was meant to end up as the factory made it- the only non stock area is a piece of steel as reinforcement for seat belts. New wood floors for the cockpit and boot were made and painted as per original. The body was reunited with the chassis with a new mount kit. A new wiring harness was installed. All chrome was either new, rechromed or a few parts were fine as is. New windshield glass. After the interior was installed, it was ready to drive. I really tried to use all original fasteners and most are. That's important if you are planning to have the car judged by the Jaguar club. The car runs great. Starts easily, starting carb shuts off as it warms up, doesn't over heat- although I live in the country and don't have to deal with stop and go traffic. Brakes stop well. The 3-4 synchro is weak and will crunch if shifted fast, but is fine otherwise. The overdrive works well and is really cool to use. It handles well- new bushings, Spax adjustable shocks, even a new steering wheel make it a pleasure to drive. Last time I checked, all electrics were working except for the clock and the wiper motor. It worked on the bench when I refurbished it, so it is a wiring issue. It has 6 (I think) wires going to it and the diagrams are poor. I think they are in the wrong order. Now the flaws: I have a beautiful new canvas top from OSJI and a refinished top frame that I haven't installed. It will need header wood(readily available) to install it. OSJI reupholstered the side curtains and supplied me with new fitted plexiglass for them. I had the frames rechromed. They will need chrome strips(also readily available) to finish them. There is a minor flaw in the body. During reassembly, I used a bolt slightly too long while installing the passenger rear fender. It raised a dimple in the rear bodywork along side the boot lid. I wasn't able to take a picture that showed it. It really is that small, but it drives me crazy. The tach cable broke last week, I'll supply a new one. I had XKS in California re-porcelain the manifolds for me (>700.00!). I see they have chipped. I've been told that means mixture or ignition settings are off, but it runs so well, I'm not sure that is the case. I have a clear MI title. I transferred from a clear Indiana title. It listed the car as a 1954 model. but it is clearly a 1955. the Heritage certificate says it was manufactured 26 January 1955. As stated before, all numbers match the heritage certificate. Who knows what the real mileage is. EBay requires that I list the odometer reading, but I have no idea what has happened in the last 59 years! The original color was pastel blue with blue interior and a tan top and side curtains. I just couldn't do it. The color now is I believe a correct Suede Green, suede green interior and a black top and side curtains. I have 5 original 54 spoke wire wheels(one is the spare). They have old bias ply tires on them, but are useful if the car will be judged. The new owner is welcome to them, though shipping may be problematic. I truly believe the new owner will enjoy this car for years to come! |

Weekly Recap: Hyundai scores NFL sponsorship after GM exits
Sat, Jul 4 2015Hyundai replaced General Motors as the official automotive sponsor of the NFL with a four-season deal that was announced this week. Hyundai gets exclusive sponsorship rights for mainstream and luxury cars, though not for pickups – as it doesn't have one in its current portfolio. "There may be another automotive truck sponsor, but not one that competes with our vehicle lineup," a Hyundai spokesman said in an email. That leaves the door open for another truckmaker to enter the fray. GM used the NFL to promote its GMC division, which makes pickups and sport-utility vehicles. The Detroit automaker decided to quit the sponsorship, which it had held since 2001, a GM spokesman said. Financials were not released, but ESPN said the sponsorship will cost Hyundai $50 million a year, double what GM paid. It gives Hyundai access to NFL trademarks for use in its marketing and advertising, and Hyundai will provide promotional vehicles to the league for the Super Bowl and other events. Hyundai celebrated the agreement by lighting up its Fountain Valley, CA, headquarters this week with a football field and the NFL logo. Hyundai's sister company, Kia, is the official automotive sponsor of the NBA. "We are huge football fans at Hyundai and feel there is no better venue to reach consumers, increase consideration, and tell the Hyundai brand story," Hyundai Motor America CEO Dave Zuchowski said in a statement. Hyundai will officially kick off its sponsorship when the NFL season begins on Sept. 10 with a primetime game featuring the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots. The figure is for city, highway, and combined driving. The EPA also said the Mirai will have a 312-mile range. The sedan will arrive in dealerships in California this fall and will cost $57,500, though incentives can drop the price significantly. The Mirai will also be offered as a $499-per-month lease. Jaguar Land Rover will electrify all new models after 2020 — and maybe some old ones
Thu, Sep 7 2017Just as Volvo did earlier this year, Jaguar and Land Rover announced a date after which all new models introduced will be electrified. That date is 2020, a year after Volvo, and JLR's definition of electrification is very similar to Volvo's, including full electrics, plug-in hybrids, and mild hybrids. Whether the British automaker's mild hybrids will be something like the 48-volt start-stop function on the Audi A8 or a more conventional hybrid has yet to be announced. Regardless, internal combustion engines won't disappear from the Jaguar and Land Rover lineups yet, and there's still a couple of years before the start date for the companies to sneak in a fully gasoline or diesel model if they wish. And on the flip side, there's nothing stopping the companies from releasing EVs or hybrids before the start date, which is exactly what Jaguar is doing with the I-Pace. Jaguar reiterated that the electric crossover will go on sale in 2018. View 11 Photos Jaguar specifically isn't just looking at electrifying future cars, but also possibly classic cars. Jaguar Land Rover Classic revealed its fully electric E-Type concept. The vintage car department took a first-generation model and created a battery pack and electric powertrain that could fit in the car, leaving as much original as possible, including the way it drives. The battery pack and motor are mounted up front, with power sent to the rear, and they weigh roughly the same and fill roughly the same space as the old straight-six engine. This keeps weight distribution the same, makes packaging easy, and should keep the driving experience roughly the same as the old car — though the electrified version is faster. Jaguar claims a 0-62 mph time of 5.5 seconds, which is about a second quicker than the gas-powered model. It also has a range of 170 miles and a charging time of around 6 to 7 hours. Other changes include an updated interior with touchscreen infotainment, carbon fiber dash, and LCD instruments. Jaguar said this electric conversion is just a concept right now, which could be just as well. We're not sure many E-Type owners would line up to replace their old six- and 12-cylinder engines. After all, part of the appeal of those cars is the sound of the engine, and stirring a manual gearbox.
Jaguar F-Type Coupe patent images exposed, 4-cyl coming?
Fri, 03 May 2013Last year, Jaguar told us that "if you get a convertible right, it's easy to do a coupe" in reference to a coupe version of the Jaguar F-Type, and now we might be seeing our first unofficial look at a hardtop version of the convertible. The German publication Auto Motor und Sport has dug up what it is reporting to be patent images filed by Jaguar showing the lines of the new coupe.
If these are actually patent drawings, they have definitely been enhanced with color and shadowing compared to what we usually see from OEM patent filings. We wouldn't be surprised if they are just altered images of Jaguar's C-X16 Concept, but either way, it's going to be a sharp car. On top of the new coupe, the article also says that the F-Type could be getting the same 240-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is currently used in the Jaguar XF, as well as the Land Rover LR2 and Range Rover Evoque.
