Offered for sale is a gorgeous, rust-free, well sorted, all numbers matching 1952 Jaguar XK120 Open Two Seater (OTS), finished in stunning Carmine Red over black leather with a black canvas soft top. Just out of the William Young collection in Seattle following nearly 30 years of ownership, the car has been fully gone through mechanically and is ready to enjoy, whether as a hobbyist’s weekend driver or as a Jaguar Club of North America (JCNA) event participant. Originally sold to a Southern California buyer through distributor Charles Hornburg in Los Angeles, by the mid 1980s the car had found its way to the Pacific Northwest, which is where Mr. Young found the car. Impressed with its honesty, lack of rust and complete originality (with numbers matching chassis, body, engine block, head and gearbox), he decided it was the perfect candidate for a thorough restoration and commissioned the work with some of the areas best tradesmen. William Young has been a significant collector for the last 40 years and while his collection has included cars as notable as multiple Jaguar SS examples, the ex-Constance Bennett 1933 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Special Town Car by Brewster (now valued at $3M+) and a bevy of other significant pre and post-war Rolls-Royces and Bentleys, Jaguars were always his true passion and we were fortunate enough to have acquired three of his XK120 Roadsters and his Mark V Drophead Coupe. A JCNA regional president for many years, Mr. Young always purchased only the most solid examples and kept them exceptionally well maintained, as evidenced by this car’s beautiful condition. Following completion of restoration, Mr. Young used the car frequently over the ensuing quarter decade as a weekend cruiser and JCNA event and tour participant. Accordingly, the Carmine Red finish is not without its blemishes, but as the pictures exhibit, they are negligible in terms of taking away from the car’s substantial overall appeal. The body is entirely straight, without any evidence of accident repairs, the brightwork shows only the patina of a well-loved and cared for classic and the chrome knock-off wire wheels are wrapped in brand new wide white wall tires. The black leather interior is in equally clean condition, the seats showing only the most negligible amount of wear and the carpets and interior paneling clean and correct. The canvas soft top is in excellent condition and the car has never been subjected to the elements, evidenced by the untainted, rust-free, completely original undercarriage. This is an entirely pure, correct and honest car, one that needs only a new owner’s garage and the same gentle use and care that it received under Mr. Young’s stewardship. Mechanically the car is fantastic, its factory 3.4L engine firing up effortlessly, idling consistently and pulling strongly and smoothly through each of the original Moss gearbox’s gears. Performance accompanies with excellent, even compression, fantastic ride quality and no proclivity for overheating. The car brakes straight and true, the suspension is sound and it is a joy from behind the wheel, whether tooling through town, roaring through the canyons or bombing down the highway. This is an excellent opportunity to acquire an appreciating XK120 OTS that ticks all of the important boxes: completely original, solid and correct undercarriage, strong and sound mechanicals, beautiful and charmingly patinated cosmetics, excellent provenance and ALL matching numbers, confirmed by both the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Certificate (which we have) and the car’s original stamps and data plate. We considered consigning the entire collection to the Gooding and Co. auction at Amelia Island, FL this spring, but opted to sell the cars (or the entire collection) privately at what would be a significant discount compared to what examples routinely bring when crossing the auction block. 2021 Jaguar F-Type R Exhaust Test | Music to a gearhead's ears
Tue, Aug 4 2020Against all odds, England has outmaneuvered America for the most savage and wicked-sounding V8 among the two countries. The 5.0-liter supercharged V8 in the Jaguar F-Type has sounded better than anything since it was popped into the R and SVR. Sorry Hellcats, Coyotes, and small blocks everywhere. Jaguar wins. Ford’s flat-plane crank Voodoo V8 in the GT350 and GT350R might be the only one that can compete on the same playing field. One drive in the 2021 Jaguar F-Type R will have you asking, how is this legal? The sheer level of noise coming out of those four very real chrome exhaust tips ensures every single head turns towards the Jaguar sports car if it hadnÂ’t already. In fact, itÂ’s so loud that we even struggled to record it authentically. You see, flooring it all but overwhelmed our microphone with the deafening roar. The key to hearing what the actual exhaust note sounds like is listening to it rev at a slower rate of speed. Then thereÂ’s the trouble of picking up its glorious overrun full of racecar-like yowls and crackling for days. No matter how you drive, youÂ’re guaranteed to be the most obnoxious individual around. Revving it up to around 3,500 rpm in first gear then releasing the throttle unloads a scary level of pops and crackles that echo throughout entire downtown blocks. ItÂ’s almost like Jaguar figured people would still want to make a stupid amount of noise even if theyÂ’re driving along slowly. This car has no chill. Pulling an upshift anywhere past 4,000 rpm prompts a chainsaw-like, ripping braaaaap that will scare small children and the easily-startled everywhere. It induces endless laughter and enjoyment for the driver behind the wheel. The cliche of "itÂ’ll bring out your inner child" perfectly applies to the F-Type R. Americans can rest assured that theyÂ’re getting the most savage version of JaguarÂ’s exhaust, too. European F-Types have the required gasoline particulate filters that choke the noise, whereas U.S. cars donÂ’t. Sorry, Earth. If youÂ’ve done much reading on the 2021 F-Type already, youÂ’d know that this updated R actually gets the same engine as the previous generationÂ’s SVR. That means it has 575 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. However, the exhaust on the new R is different from the old SVR in that itÂ’s slightly tamer. ItÂ’s difficult to fathom a wilder exhaust than the one fitted to this R, but it makes perfect sense to reserve the ultimate noise maker for the ultimate version of the F-Type.

After all, his collection is absolutely massive, but vehicles show up for this exclusive event on the California peninsula that even Jay doesn't know about. He's giving us a just a tiny taste of this year's event in the latest episode of Jay Leno's Garage. The majority of this clip is dedicated to an in-depth look at the Jaguar F-Type Project 7, and Jay gets the details direct from designer Ian Callum. The two of them are old friends after doing the 2014 Mille Miglia together in a Jaguar XK120. After getting a mountain of info about the inspiration behind this special F-Type, they go for a ride on some beautiful California roads to listen to the wonderful, crackling exhaust. Following the drive, Jay finds a racecar from the teens that he is completely unfamiliar with. Thankfully, the mechanic is nearby to shed some light on this rarity. We hope there're more videos to come about Leno's visit to Monterey Car Week, but hopefully his team can fix some of the sound issues in this clip.
2021 Jaguar XF P300 Road Test | Still in the game, but now in another league
Fri, Sep 24 2021The Jaguar XF is never the four-door you think of first when it comes to picking a luxury sedan. After all, you’re much more likely to see a BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class or Audi A6 roaming the streets than you are to see JagÂ’s midsize sedan. The numbers back this up, too, as Jaguar sold a middling 748 XFs in the U.S. in 2020. Does that mean this drive in the refreshed 2021 Jaguar XF could be one of our last? Perhaps, and as we pointed out in our first drive of this XF, getting rid of the model would mean the end of the Jaguar sedan. The XE and, most regrettably, the XJ have already met their maker. What a sad day that would be. But that day hasnÂ’t come yet, which means itÂ’s time to take this entry seriously. The specific version that was sent to review is the top-of-the-line Jaguar XF P300 R-Dynamic SE model that starts at $51,145. Even this one is cheaper than what has traditionally been considered its main competitors: the base BMW 530i or Mercedes-Benz E 350. Instead, the Jaguar XF lineup is priced to be in what is clearly a lower sedan segment with the Lexus ES, Acura TLX, Cadillac CT5 and cheaper Genesis G80s. The XF stands a chance on this playing field; on the previous one that flies the German flag? Not so much. Walking up to the car is enough to deliver our first demerit. It comes in an area that was traditionally JaguarÂ’s strong suit: distinctive design. The XFÂ’s general look hasnÂ’t changed much since the 2016 model year when this generation was introduced, and the mid-cycle refresh didnÂ’t do enough to help. ItÂ’s not a bad-looking car, but JaguarÂ’s taken no chances, and itÂ’s getting boring. That wasn't the case with the original XF, which stood out boldly inside and out. Today's XF doesn't. We'd much rather stare at the slinky new TLX or stately G80. And while the sleek LED tails are a nice new touch, the elimination of its elegant dual exhaust for a hidden exhaust tucked up under the bumper is a step backwards — especially for the uprated and more powerful P300 R-Dynamic trim. 2021 Jaguar XF P300 R-Dynamic View 18 Photos At least output from the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four — the supercharged V6 option is dead, much to our dismay — is more than acceptable for this class, sitting at 296 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Acceleration is largely emotionless with a small bit of response lag after stepping into the throttle — it does hit 60 mph in 5.8 seconds.
