Top torque-to-weight ratios under $100k, $50k and $25k

Horsepower may steal a lot of headlines, but the always-more-complex torque figure is often a critical one for both the workingman and the motoring playboy. The measure of rotational force represents the twist that can liquefy one's tires or haul one's horse trailer. Good stuff.
It follows then, that as with the horsepower-to-weight list that we assembled for you a few months ago, a list of cars that offer the most pound-feet with the fewest pounds to carry, is an interesting one to break down. Sure, there's a big difference in how the torque is applied from a turbocharged six-cylinder in a Swedish luxury sedan and a massive heavy-duty truck's turbo-diesel. But being the car/stat geeks that we are, we think it's kinda neat that those two vehicles rank near each other where torque and weight intersect.
As with the horsepower list, we've given you figures as pounds per every one pound-foot. Again broken down into broad price categories, we've got a mixed bag of 2014 and 2015 models here, too. Every effort has been made to select the most up-to-date prices and specs, and we've also to omitted some '14 cars that won't be re-upped after the ongoing yearly changeover.

This 1937 Jaguar SS100 might be fantastic, but it's not an original. It's a replica, but one built to exacting standards and the original design. And it stopped by Jay Leno's Garage for a quick spin. The original was built by SS Cars Ltd, the precursor of the company we know today as Jaguar – and which changed its name and logo after WWII for reasons that shouldn't require explanation. There were only a few hundred of them made between 1936 and 1940, but they remain a popular choice among recreation manufacturers. Many of those replica constructors are based out of the UK, but this particular example is the work of one Jason Len, head of XKs Unlimited out of San Luis Obispo, CA. Len and company will produce a turnkey replica of the pre-war Jag convertible starting at $170,000. Which may seem like an awful lot for a replica, but that price may seem entirely reasonable when you see all the attention that goes in to building one. Watch the video above to see for yourself. The day has finally come for the Jaguar I-Pace electric crossover to be revealed, and you can watch as the sheet is pulled off the company's first full EV. The reveal starts at 1:00 p.m. ET, and can be viewed in the embedded video above. The I-Pace was first revealed in concept form in Nov. 2016. Jaguar claimed it had a range of 220 miles, 400 horsepower, and 516 pound-feet of torque. Jaguar has also promised very fast charging at 100kW DC chargers. Apparently it can regain 80% of its charge in 45 minutes at such a charger. Jaguar has claimed this charging capability for the production model, but we have yet to see if the power and range numbers held up. Jaguar will also run a one-make I-Pace race series alongside Formula E. We'll see if any further announcements are made about the racing version of the car and the series. Related Video:
