1972 Jaguar XJ6

This is a three owner 1972 Jaguar XJ6. The first owner was a military gentleman that purchased this car new in England in June of 1972. The car has been in Colorado since 1973. On May 20, 2004 it was sold to a local man who owned it for the last 10 years.

Engine / Transmission – The original Jaguar motor went out in March of 1982 with approximately 62,000 miles (this was a very common issue with these motors). The Chevrolet conversion was done at this time with included a new crate 350 motor and a GM 400 Turbohydramatic transmission upgrade. All of the work was professionally completed by Concours Cars in Colorado Springs at a cost of over $6000. The GM transmission shifts much more smoothly than the original BORG-Warner and the GM 400 is original equipment in the older Rolls-Royce’s and the Jaguar V12s. Currently, there are approximately 30,000 miles on the new drive train! The great thing with this conversion is not only the reliably of the motor, but also the significant reduction in repair costs. The motor currently has a four-barrel carburetor and runs very strong. As you can see from the pictures, the engine compartment is near perfect. The valve covers have been removed (new gaskets), media blasted and powder-coated. The air cleaned unit and air filter are new. It also has a new battery. The power steering pump was leaking, so it is currently in the shop being repaired / replaced, along with the lines.

Interior -- The dash is in perfect condition. The wood package was upgraded by Madera Concepts to Carpathian Burled hardwood, which is the same type they use in Bentleys. This upgrade was almost $900, 20 years ago! The seats and door panels were recovered / customized in the early 90s. They are in near perfect condition and really stand out against the maroon paint. The carpet and mats are in great condition, with the exception of the driver’s area. There are no holds or ware spots, just discoloration – difficult to see because it is under the dash area. The entire inside has been steam cleaned. The car was upgraded with an aftermarket cruise control system, but I have never tried to use it. All of the glass is perfect and the windshield has new wiper blades.

Body – The car was repainted in 1990 and you can tell from the pictures that this car has always been garaged. In my opinion, the paint is 8.5 out of 10. There are a few chips/dings on the passenger side and the driver’s side wheel well. All have been touched up and are barely noticeable. The paint has had a three stage clean-up which consists of compounding, polishing and waxing – it is very smooth and looks great. The previous owner pulled the car too far forward in his garage and bumped the lawnmower, so there is a dent in the nose just above the grill (see picture). All of the chrome appears to be original and is in good condition. I believe the exhaust was replaced during the engine conversion. The resonators are starting to gets holes in them, but they have been patched – the mufflers and the remainder of the exhaust is in good condition. There are no holes or rust in the bottom of the car. Included in the sale is a High-end California car cover that costs over $400.

HVAC – At some point, the original owner had a larger AC unit installed for the back passengers with a separate control. The vents are installed in the rear deck lid area between the speakers. The system appears to still run off of the old R-12 Freon (not R-134a) which has not been pressure tested to check for leaks. I haven’t had the need for it since it doesn't get that hot in Colorado.

Suspension/Tires -- The suspension is in great condition -- the shocks are not brand new but still function well. The four tires on the car have plenty of tread. The car also comes with two spare tires and the wheels are in great condition.

Stereo – The original owner also installed an aftermarket stereo with an AM/FM tuner and cassette deck. The stereo works well and sounds good. The antenna does not go up and down, but it doesn't affect the reception unless you are in the garage.

Spare Parts - this car comes with an extensive amount of spare parts, including extra belts, wipers, CB, original XJ letters, trunk trim (still in the original bag). I am also including the Haynes repair manual, the factory repair manual and original factory service handbook with case. The car also has a 2'x3' copy of the wiring diagram. I even have the original sales brochure which comes with the car!

Known issues/quirks - To the best of my knowledge, the only thing not working on the car is the switch for the washer fluid and the clock. I believe the rear defrost switch was disconnected when the extra AC/heat was installed in the back. Sometimes the tachometer and speedometer needles jump. A couple small oil leaks.

Driving Experience - This car is a pleasure to drive. The seating position is relaxed and all the dashboard controls are in easy reach. This car really shines on twisty roads and you can feel the Jaguar suspension doing its job. Braking is confident and swift. If you're looking for a cheap XJ6 -- there are plenty out there. You get what you pay for. If you want a Jaguar that has been spoiled and loved -- then this is the one you want. I would imagine that the two previous owners have put well over $20,000 in this car over the years.

2017 Jaguar XE First Drive

Wed, Jan 28 2015

For the first time in decades, the prize for the best-driving compact luxury sport sedan is very much up for grabs. BMW's 3 Series, the segment's longstanding archetype, has grown a bit soft, distant and pricy. Its Japanese rival from Infiniti, the Q50, lost the plot thanks to its video game steering and dated powerplant. The Audi A4 is due for replacement and the fantastic Mercedes-Benz C-Class skews luxury over sport. The Cadillac ATS? With an excellent chassis hobbled by middling powertrains and the devil's own infotainment system, it isn't selling. Unlikely as it sounds, the Lexus IS is probably the segment's best driver, but you've got to learn to love those turn-to-stone looks. So, where's a segment malcontent to look? Provided he or she is patient enough to wait for this car's spring 2016 arrival, allow us to recommend the 2017 Jaguar XE. Let's be honest. Jaguar really needed to come out with guns blazing. The last time the British brand battled in the compact premium sport sedan segment, its much-maligned X-Type slinked into the underbrush, tail between its legs after just a single generation. While the X was in some ways a better car than history will begrudge it, there's no getting around that Jaguar brought a front-wheel-drive-based knife to a rear-wheel-drive gun fight. This new XE will need to be a very different kitty, and it is. Internally known as X760, Jag's latest rides atop an all-new aluminum-intensive modular architecture wearing a handsome mosaic of aluminum and steel body panels. While the XE's design has struck us as very familiar since it first bowed in September, it's an attractive shape. Its longish, 111.6-inch wheelbase and wheels-at-the-corner stance gives the design a planted look emphasized by its wide rectangular grille and prominent lower air intakes. Jaguar claims a super-slick .26 coefficient of drag, but that's the skinny-tired overseas base model that we'll never see – ours will likely ring up a few hundredths higher. The aluminum body-in-white is itself an impressive piece of work, weighing just over 550 pounds. Vehicle engineering manager Jonathan Darlington says it's 20-percent stiffer torsionally than the XF, and "the lightest in the sector by far." What's more, the chassis incorporates liberal amounts of recycled aluminum (a claimed world first) and increased use of structural adhesives.

An E-Type in the garden: rotting '63 Jaguar heads for auction

Wed, Mar 2 2016

There's something about formerly gorgeous cars in dilapidated states from which the eye cannot turn away. The devastatingly cruel fate of this Jaguar E-Type is an illustration. Next week, it likely begins a new life. Still voluptuous after decades rotting in a garden, this 1963 Series 1 fixed head coupe will be offered for sale at the Coys auction Tuesday in London. The car has 44,870 miles on the odometer and has passed through several owners, including one with a tangential connection to the Beatles and another man who used the Jag to pull his MG to Brands Hatch. He would race them both, according to Coys' listing, wringing the most out of the E-Type's 265-horsepower inline six. Ivor Arbiter was owner No. 1. His link to history is that he designed the Beatles drop-T logo in the early '60s and was reportedly paid five British pounds for it. He bought the E-Type new in 1963, used it, and then sold it to in 1965. The E-Type passed through a couple of owners until motorsports enthusiast Frank Riches bought it in '67. He tracked the Jag at some of Britain's iconic circuits and drove it until he fried the clutch. Coys cites a story from Riches' brother recounting when the E-Type hit 150 miles per hour on a public road, its listed top speed. It was in storage until the 1980s, and then Riches relocated it to his garden, where it has sat for years. Considering its long dormancy, the Jag appears to be in reasonable shape. It's never been restored, obviously, and Riches still has many of the original parts he replaced, including the center console and radiator bar. Coys notes that the seats have a "lovely patina" and are worth saving, too. The buyer also gets a brown logbook, the sales invoice to Riches, two service books (it is a '63 Jag) and a spare parts catalogue. A Coys auctioneer told ITV.com that the car could net about $140,000. Related Video: Jaguar Auctions Coupe Luxury Performance jaguar e-type

Watch the Jaguar F-Pace set a Guinness World Record for looping

Mon, Sep 14 2015

On a chilly gray night in Germany, Jaguar officially leapt into the crossover segment. But it also reminded everyone its brand of grocery-getter will be anything but conventional. The 2017 F-Pace, which will launch next spring in the United States, debuted Monday evening at a glitzy event before the Frankfurt Motor Show. Rather than simply tear the cover off the car (you can watch that below), Jaguar sent a specially-prepped F-Pace blasting up a 63-foot-tall loop, setting a Guinness World Record in the process. Driven by British stunt driver Terry Grant, Jaguar said the F-Pace stood up against 6.5 Gs of gravity during the display. The stunt was meant to illustrate the F-Pace's poise, agility, and athletic nature. In fact, Jaguar is calling the vehicle the "ultimate practical sports car," instead of dwelling on the fact it's an SUV. Based on Jaguar's lightweight aluminum architecture, the F-Pace will arrive in America next year with two V6 engines rated at 340 horsepower or 380 hp. A new 2.0-liter diesel engine will join the lineup next fall, and serve as the entry-level model. It starts at $41,985. Related Video:
