I am relisting this car due to a non paying buyer. This is a no reserve auction for a used  Jaguar XJ6L sedan in Grey with the appearance and looks of a Vanden Plas. The car has 114,000 highway miles, the car was involve in a light collision were the front bumper was damaged but professionally repaired (the bumper, headlamp, headlamp bezel and front grill were replaced). The car has a clean title.

A straight six that hauls like a V-8. The 4-liter, 245-horsepower, 24-valve, in-line, 6-cylinder engine is rather energetic considering the weight (4,100 pounds) it has to pull. Of course, those that flex muscle need nourishment, and the XJ6L is no exception with its 17 m.p.g. city/23 m.p.g. highway mileage rating. You'll be the envy of all others when you pull up to the pump, but be prepared to be envied often.

Ride and handling are very pleasant. You feel few abrasions in the road thanks to revised shock and spring settings, and despite the Jaguar's weight, you won't lean or wander nearly as much in corners, turns or when semi-circling on expressway ramps as you might expect. Speed-sensitive power steering improves responsiveness to wheel input.

Jaguar original stereo system, driver seat and mirrors memory system, traction control, electric tilt and telescope wheel, power sun roof, wood/leather steering wheel, chrome leaper hood ornament, chrome-plated wheels, full-size spare tire.

Cost when new, $58,060. Includes dual air bags, four-speed automatic, Connolly leather and walnut interior, power seats, security system, air conditioning, cruise control, anti-lock brakes, speed-sensitive power steering, Engine  4.0-liter, 24-valve, inline-six developing 245 horsepower. Type Front-engine, rear-drive, luxury performance sedan.

Performance 0-60 M.P.H.,  8.5 seconds. Top speed, manufacturer tested, 140 M.P.H. Fuel consumption, EPA city and highway, 17 and 23 m.p.g.

The car is offer as is, where is and there is no warranties of any kind.

On Dec-18-13 at 14:50:36 PST, seller added the following information:

The car shows a slightly different color tone in the doors vs. the rest of the car due to the repair done at the front bumper. The doors had some dings and I requested to be repainted while the car was already at the repair shop. Color matching of the original paint was not perfect.

Ian Callum wanted to call Jaguar's crossover X-Type [w/poll]

Thu, Jan 15 2015

Jaguar raised some eyebrows when it announced that it would call its upcoming crossover F-Pace. But the British automaker didn't just pick the name out of a hat. Speaking with Auto Express, Jaguar's design director Ian Callum said the company entertained several possible nameplates for its first crossover, and that he personally advocated for resurrecting the name X-Type. The nameplate was, of course, previously used on the marque's entry-level sedan – the predecessor to the upcoming XE that was based on the front-drive platform of the Ford Mondeo and which was also offered with all-wheel drive. The connection with that much-maligned model is reportedly ultimately what dissuaded the company's marketing gurus from using the nameplate again, even if it might have been more suitable. Another nameplate Coventry reportedly considered was XQ, but the latter letter's use by rival Audi for its crossovers and by former sister company Aston Martin for its personalization range ruled the prospect out for the Leaping Cat marque. Auto Express notes a connection between the name F-Pace and Jaguar's 1960s ad campaign hailing its products as offering a combination of "Grace, Space and Pace." For his part, Callum didn't dismiss the possibility the slogan could could lead to additional models wearing similar nameplates like F-Grace or F-Space. What do you think – did Jaguar pick the right name for its first foray into the crossover market? Share your thoughts in Comments and cast your vote in our poll below.

Artist imagines eerie world where cars have no wheels

Thu, 24 Jan 2013

The wheel ranks right up there with the telescope and four-slice toaster in the pantheon of inventions that have moved humankind forward. But what if a circle in three dimensions had never occurred to anyone, and we all had just moved on without it? Perhaps we'd be driving around in Lucas Motors Landspeeders with anti-gravity engines. Or maybe we'd have the same cars we do today, just without wheels.
That's the thought experiment that seems to have led French photographer Renaud Marion to create his six-image series called Air Drive. The shots depict cars throughout many eras of motoring that look normal except for one thing: they have no wheels. The models used include a Jaguar XK120, Cadillac DeVille (shown above), Chevrolet El Camino and Camaro, and Mercedes-Benz SL and 300 roadsters.
Perhaps one day when our future becomes our past, you'll be able to walk the street and see with your own eyes the rust and patina of age on our nation's fleet of floating cars. Until then, Monsieur Marion's photographs will have to do.

London skyscraper caught melting cars

Tue, 03 Sep 2013

A new skyscraper under construction in London is apparently to blame for some mysteriously melting car parts on the city's surrounding streets. The 37-story building at 20 Fenchurch Street, nicknamed the "Walkie Talkie" for how it looks, features a convex side of glass windows that apparently concentrates the sun's rays like a kid with a magnifying glass. Instead of smiting ants, however, the building was caught focusing its sun-sourced laser death beam on an innocent Jaguar XJ parked on Eastcheap street. The intense heat managed to melt a sideview mirror, plastic C-pillar cover and Jaguar emblem (scroll down for an image of the damage).
Fortunately, the construction company, Land Securities, had some scruples and reportedly left a note on the car for its owner reading "Your car's buckled, could you give us a call?" They've also since apologized and agreed to pay for the £946 done - about $1,500 - in damages by their blazing hot building. A joint statement with the Canary Wharf district in which the building's located was also released. In it, the developer acknowledges concerns about the reflected light and says it's looking into the matter. The city has also decided to close a few parking bays that could be in the building's line of fire, so to speak, until a solution can be engineered. Since news of the melting Jag broke, other vehicle owners have also come forward claiming the building, re-nicknamed the "Walkie Scorchie," has damaged their cars, as well.
This isn't the first shiny-new-building-attacks-cars story we've heard - architect Frank Gehry's Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles was built amidst concern that its polished ribbons of stainless steel were blinding motorists and causing accidents, along with raising the temperatures of nearby buildings with its reflected light. The building's surfaces were later given a matte polish.
