This is an XJ-SC model Jaguar, made only for three model years, with a combination targa top/sunroof panels and back end removable hard top convertible.  A soft top swap out is included and takes about 15 minutes to switch over too, but I like the looks of the hard top better, so most of the post-update photos are that way.  The roll bar stays in place whichever top you use.  This was Jaguar's answer to not being able to sell convertibles in America.

I have heavily modified this vehicle, mostly myself, and she's my baby. She was definitely built for me and feels very little like a stock model.  So, even if you're a Jaguar nut, I would really prefer to sell it to someone who will come see it and get the feel of it so there are no disappointments.  Still, I will try to cover everything here.

Mechanically, modifications include wire insulators throughout the engine V, all gaskets and other rubber parts replaced and/or upgraded, a high air intake system to replace the original trumpets (if you have seen these before, this car was one of the original test cars for the TX manufacturer), compensated cat converters to handle the extra air flow, and a four speed overdrive automatic racing transmission (custom) to replace the GM 300 these usually came with, and some adjustments to the computer settings.  These changes bring the 70 mph RPM down to about 2200 from the original 3000 and the 0-60 speed to about 7 seconds as opposed to the factory norm of about 9+, and really great highway acceleration that can't be matched by stock once you've got this heavy tank finally rolling..

Cosmetically, I have recolored the seats  and changed the interior roof cover from factory tan to blue to match, all the dash plastic has been replaced with wood or wood grain, replaced steering wheel with matching wood three spoke, carpets are now black rather than factory grey with custom "Bagheera" embroidered floor mats (that's her name), installed a removable face plate touch panel CD player and subwoofer, chrome trim kit with chrome Ronal custom wheels with low profile Z rated Sumitomo tires.  There's more, but it's hard to remember all of it :)  All told, I have about $30,000 into the car.

So, if you want to win a Jag show, this car is too modified for that, but you will definitely have a crowd around it in the "display only" category if you still want to show it off.  If you want to drive a heavy V12 the way it should have performed in the first place, you'd have a hard time finding a more "one of a kind" car than this.

Known driving issues:  The automatic seat belts are a pain.  I have been told since this is a safety feature Jaguar will still fix them for free, but I've never bothered as I don't really like them.  Partly due to the increased airflow, butterfly and idle adjustments need to be made frequently to cover for drastic temperature changes, so perhaps a once per season change.  This is a 15 or 20 minute process once you've got the hang of it.  The gas gauge does not work properly, all other gauges and the drive computer do.  The transmission is very tight, so you have to get used to how to control it through the accelerator (which is very responsible and fun) so you don't give yourself a little whiplash trying to race through the lower gears too quickly, but it really cuts down the shift time.

The car's beautiful to look at and I can't take it out of the garage without comments from people.  There are a couple minor vinyl patch jobs around the roof opening, but otherwise the interior is pretty much perfect.  No dings or scratches on the exterior.

Jaguar lifts the tailgate on XFR-S Sportbrake

Tue, 25 Feb 2014

In the market for an amped-up Jaguar? Look for the letter R, adorning such performance models as the XFR and XJR sedans, the XKR coupe and convertible and the new F-Type R. But if it's bonkers performance you're after, you'll want to add the letter S into the mix as well. Jaguar uses the letters to connote its most hard-core performance variants like the two-door XKR-S and four-door XFR-S. And now it's applied them to the XF wagon as well, skipping the R treatment and going straight for the new XFR-S Sportbrake.
Leaked just the other day and headed for the Geneva Motor Show, Jaguar has now revealed its new power wagon in full. The XFR-S Sportbrake packs Coventry's ubiquitous 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine boasting 542 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque. That's the same version that powers the XKR-S and XFR-S sedan (not to mention the F-Type R and XJR), and drives the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic to rocket the estate to 60 in 4.6 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 186 miles per hour.
That may be pretty quick, but doesn't quite stack up to the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S-Model 4Matic Estate whose 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 offers up 577 hp and 590 lb-ft for a 3.6-second 0-60 time, or to the Audi RS6 Avant whose 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 churns out 552 hp and 516 lb-ft for a 3.9-second 0-62 sprint. Though the Jaguar is only a little behind in output, it's a good second slower where it's measured. Granted that the Benz and the Audi are both all-wheel-drive where the Jaguar powers the rear only, but if four-wheel traction is how you get the power to the road, we wonder why Jaguar wouldn't fall in line. Particularly when the Jag's starting price in the UK (don't expect to see it imported here) is quoted at £82,495 - several grand more than the £76,985 RS6 but just shy of the £85,880 Mercedes gets for the E63 S-Model wagon in the UK (where the less potent 'base' version is also available as the cheapest in the bunch at £75,885).

Jaguar F-Pace SVR to debut this week at New York Auto Show

Mon, Mar 26 2018

It should come as no surprise that the folks back in England have been working on a hot new version of the Jaguar F-Pace. Today, just ahead of the 2018 New York International Auto Show, the British automaker confirmed that the Jaguar F-Pace SVR will debut this week. The new Jaguar I-Pace and Range Rover SV Coupe will make their North American debuts alongside the F-Pace. All we know about the F-Pace SVR is that it will be the fastest and most powerful version of Jaguar's best-selling product. We don't even have a teaser photo, as Jaguar Land Rover loves to play things close to the vest, so we're sharing some spy photos that we think might be the new model. Expect some version of JLR's 5.0-liter supercharged V8. We're hoping it's the 575 horsepower variant from the refreshed Range Rover Sport SVR. Expect 0-60 mph times in the low-4-second range and a top speed of at least 155 mph. The I-Pace and Range Rover SV Coupe both debuted earlier this month at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The I-Pace is an all-electric crossover with an estimated 240 miles of range. The SV Coupe is a limited-production two-door variant of the full-size Range Rover. It's meant to be a throwback to the original two-door Range Rover Classic. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Recharge Wrap-up: Jaguar Land Rover talks EVs, Batteries should be modular

Wed, Sep 3 2014

A new study out of Germany suggests adopting a modular approach to battery offerings in plug-in hybrid and extended range electric vehicles. Automakers could offer the same car with different battery sizes (and different costs, accordingly) to drivers depending on their driving ranges. This would optimize the total cost of ownership for various drivers better than the current approach. Developing a modular battery design and offering appropriate batteries for different customers "is the key for electric powertrains to meet customer expectations and become cost competitive against conventional technologies," according to the report from the Institute of Vehicle Concepts, German Aerospace Center. Learn more at Green Car Congress. Jaguar and Land Rover are looking to offer more electric driving from their vehicles. Wolfgang Ziebart, head of product development for Jaguar Land Rover, said in an interview that its hybrid system is being tweaked for more electric power and "downsized" combustion. He also said the likely target market for EVs would be second and third vehicles, rather than primary vehicles for urban driving. Within that market, Europeans look for something smaller, while American drivers lean toward larger luxury vehicles for their second car. Ziebart uses the Tesla Model S as an example of American tastes, and compares its size to that of the Jaguar XJ. Read more at Automotive News Europe. Thailand will likely approve a Volkswagen factory as early as next week. A German newspaper suggests that Thailand's Board of Investment is set to greenlight the plant, which is planned for a site near the Port of Bangkok. Thailand is a relatively large and growing auto manufacturing country, which seeks to be a major producer of eco-friendly vehicles. The country's "Eco2" program would provide incentives to Volkswagen if it builds clean cars and meets certain production targets. Read more at Reuters. Formula E has chosen Sky Deutschland for broadcasting rights in the German market. The deal includes television rights, as well as online broadcasting. Sky Deutschland has 3.8 million subscribers in Germany and Austria. Showing the races on Germany's largest pay television provider should help generate interest for the series, particularly the Berlin ePrix - the inaugural season's penultimate race - scheduled for May 30, 2015.
