1976 Jaguar Xj12 L Sedan 4-door 5.3l on 2040-cars
Glastonbury, Connecticut, United States
I bought this very rare vehicle in 1984 with about 90000 miles on engine and transmission and became the 2nd owner. Then took it completely apart and restored it. After about 10 years all work had been finished: fully painted, engine overhauled, new wire harness for injection valves, Borg Warner tranny got replaced by a GM Turbo-400, differential overhauled, water pump replaced, new front springs, rear body panels below bumper got replaced, holes in rocker panels & doors & floor got welded, new & used front fender (all cavities on car body got fully sealed and there's no rust until today), brakes fully overhauled, coolant hoses & radiator replaced, AC hoses & lines + compressor replaced, suspension parts spray coated with zinc, many engine parts zinc coated, suspension fully overhauled. The interior had been reworked incl. headliners and new rug. The vinyl roof is original and still looks good.
The last years fixes: new rear stainless steel mufflers + stainless steel pipes over rear axle, rubber boots on front calipers repaced, new lower coolant hose to water pump, fan thermostat replaced by a threaded one, new power steering pump, replaced door hinges on front left door, new and stronger hinge-pins on 3 doors, fine-oil filters for engine and transmission installed, 6 new shocks, new lower ball joints, new AC thermostat, new headlights in fenders and hood, new battery main switch in hidden spot, 4 new tires. Installed a remote door opener and alarm system. Engine can be started without ignition key through hidden key pad. During a move the shipping company damaged the front left fender at the lower end in the front. I removed the fender and the lower front panel. Both got painted with the original paint I still have. After sealing off the areas below the fender with special wax the fender and front panel got installed by myself and they look new again. The pictures being provided have been taken in different locations (Germany & US). Please do not worry, the beauty looks still the same. I will provide new pictures if necessary. Over the years there's not much I haven't touched on this car. Please contact me if there's questions and I will dig into the car history to find out. It always starts up and runs great. The 12-Cyl.-Engine runs extremely smooth and powerful. Engine has electronically controlled fuel injection called D-Jettronic (vacuum controlled). The only reason for taking the engine apart was oil leaks but there was no wear on cylinders and other engine parts. Over the years I have resolved some challenges and made a reliable car out of it. The car is in good+ condition. Nobody smoked in the car since I own it and it was always garaged. Never drove the car in winter and avoided bad weather in general. The vehicle comes with many rerplacement parts. The Jag initially comes from Germany and it's the European model (XJ 5.3) which can be noticed on the small crome bumpers and the absence of the ugly turning lights in the fenders. The speedometer only shows kilometers per hour. There's no catalytic converters and the engine has no hardened valve seats which requires lead substitute in the fuel (which was never a problem through all the years). For about 10 years there's a knocking sound noticable. It seems to come from the torque converter and goes away once the transmission oil warms up (it goes away when driving the car). I never fixed it because it did not get worse over time and everything still works well which means the 3-speed automatic tranny shifts incredibly smooth in cold and warm condition and does not leak. I love this Jag and it's hard to me to sell it for private reasons. Please, only make a bid if you're really interested and contact me for further details. There's so much to tell about it. I'd prefer the buyer showing up in person to test drive it. Payment should be via Paypal, cashiers check or cash. |

Jaguar tests autonomous vehicle technology with 100-car fleet
Wed, Jul 13 2016Jaguar Land Rover is exploring how to take autonomous vehicle technology off the paved path. But the company has plans for technology on tarmac, too. The company announced that the Jaguar division will have a fleet of 100 cars testing autonomous technologies on public roads. The testing process will cover a period of four years and begin with vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication systems, along with a stereo camera system and autonomous vehicle software. These systems will work together to provide a variety of features that could make their way into future Jaguars and Land Rovers. The first feature in development is called "Roadwork Assist." The system relies on the stereo camera to create a 3D image the car's software can analyze. The software can identify road cones and other barriers associated with construction sites. The car will then alert the driver about entering the construction zone and provide some steering assistance to keep the car centered in its lane. Tony Harper, Jaguar's head of research, said that this system can reduce stress on the driver, and the technology could eventually be used to allow the car to pilot itself through construction zones. Another of Jaguar's proposed features is "Safe Pullaway," which also relies on cameras and software. The Safe Pullaway feature is designed to prevent close-proximity collisions in traffic jams and even in the garage. To do this, the car watches the area immediately ahead of it for obstacles. If the car detects something nearby while the driver adds throttle or shifts into gear, it will apply the brakes to prevent driving into the object. The final project on Jaguar's plate is its "Over the Horizon Warning" system. This will be one of the first features to rely on Jaguar's vehicle-to-vehicle communication technology. The idea is that connected cars in constant communication will give drivers additional warning of upcoming hazards, such as out-of-sight animals and slowed or stopped cars. In Jaguar's example of a stopped car, the stationary vehicle would send a signal alerting approaching cars of the situation. In turn, the approaching vehicles would trigger audible and visual warnings to drivers about the hidden car. Jaguar says that the system could also be applied to emergency vehicles. Emergency vehicles would broadcast a signal to alert drivers well before the lights and sirens get their attention. This would give emergency vehicles a faster, safer path through traffic.
2014 Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake
Tue, 17 Jun 2014We'd consider giving up vital organs for the opportunity to drive any number of vehicles on the Nürburgring: supercars, racecars, track cars, even hot hatches... but a station wagon? That might not seem like a top choice at first blush, but this is no ordinary wagon. This is the Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake.
Now if that name leaves you scratching your head, there are several good reasons for that - not least of which is the unfortunate reality that, unlike so many performance-oriented crossovers and sport-utes, the Sportbrake is not offered in North America. But suppose it were, or that weren't a factor. You'd likely still be left wondering how the name Jaguar ended up on a station wagon in the first place, and how that machine wound up bearing the letters R-S, the suffix affixed only to Coventry's most hardcore performance models.
Our brief story goes back a little over two years to when Jaguar revealed the XF Sportbrake at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, giving its mid-level sedan an elongated roof and added cargo capacity. The Sportbrake may not be the first wagon to wear the Leaping Cat badge, but following the lamentable X-Type Sportwagon, it could be argued that the XF is the first authentic Jag estate.
Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy: New EV, new series — Jaguar's going racing
Tue, Sep 12 2017Luxury carmaker Jaguar is teasing the 2018 launch of a five-seat electric sports car based on its I-Pace concept as its first battery-electric vehicle. The Indian-owned automaker released images of the sports car as part of its announcement that it will launch the world's first international production EV race series in 2018. A performance SUV version of the I-Pace, previously reported and presumably based on a concept revealed late last year, is also planned for late 2018. Jaguar has said it plans to electrify all new models after 2020, part of a wave of similar announcements as governments in England, China and elsewhere have announced plans to eventually ban the sale of gasoline or diesel cars. In its announcement, Jaguar said only that the race series would "support the launch" of the I-Pace five-seater. View 7 Photos At the Los Angeles auto show last year, Jaguar said its concept I-Pace crossover SUV would have a 220-mile range from its 90-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack, designed and engineered entirely in-house. The Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy series is a support series for the FIA Formula E championship and will exclusively feature up to 20 all-electric Jaguar I-Pace racecars across 10 races in cities including Hong Kong, Paris, Sao Paolo and New York. The racecars will be built at the Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations in Warwickshire, England. "With the launch of the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY, we have strengthened our commitment to battery electric vehicles, international motorsport and Formula E," Gerd Mauser, chairman of Jaguar Racing, said in a statement. "As a British team, we are proud to announce today the launch of the world's first production battery electric vehicle championship." He added: "Ultimately this innovative series will enhance the technology in our future electric vehicles and benefit our customers." Jaguar says it will release technical specifications, race calendar and costs for the I-Pace eTrophy in 2018.
