Jaguar to build 25 D-type racing cars to finish off 1956 production run

It's good to pick up where you left off, even if it's been more than 60 years. In 1956, Jaguar planned to built 100 D-type racing cars, but only 75 were completed. The missing 25 cars will now be built at Jaguar Land Rover Classic Works in Warwickshire, England, and they will all be built according to the original, authentic specifications. Customers can choose between 1955-style "Shortnose" cars and 1956-style "Longnose" versions; the prototype is of the latter specification. All of them will have the original six-cylinder XK engine, and they will come with a lot of Le Mans heritage, as D-types won the famous 24 hour race in 1955, 1956 and 1957. Earlier, they announced they were building nine XKSS cars to finish off a production run that was cut short by a 1957 fire, and in 2015 the division built six Lightweight E-Types. The XKSS itself was strongly related to the D-type, as originally it was based on unfinished D-types sitting around in the workshop after Jaguar temporarily retired from racing. As Jaguar Classic's Engineering Manager Kev Riches says of the continuation cars: "Each one will be absolutely correct, down to the very last detail, just as Jaguar's Competitions Department intended." The 2021 Jaguar F-Type Heritage 60 Edition is fast, exclusive and classically green

The original Jaguar E-Type turns 60 years old next March, and to celebrate, Jaguar is building a limited run of a special F-Type. It's awkwardly called the 2021 Jaguar F-Type Heritage 60 Edition, but it's otherwise a subtle, classy example of the sports car. One of the most noteworthy aspects is that soft green hue. It's Sherwood Green, which was a color offered on the original E-Type, but hasn't been available since the 1960s. It's the only color offered here, and won't be available on other F-Types. Black and aluminum trim accents dot the outside, and they're paired with machine-finish forged wheels. The interior features a light brown and black leather interior, and there are special logos placed throughout. That logo also happens to be shared with the restored Jaguar E-Type Heritage 60 Collection cars. The center stack gets a unique aluminum trim that's patterned to match the back of an E-Type's rearview mirror. The F-Type Heritage 60 Edition is only available in F-Type R specification. That means it gets a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 making 575 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Power goes through an eight-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels. Buyers do get the choice of either coupe or convertible, though. Only 60 examples of the mean green cat will be built worldwide. Pricing hasn't been announced, but it should be a good bit more than the roughly $104,000 of a base F-Type R. Related Video:

Top horsepower-per-dollar cars in 2017

Bang for the buck. That quasi-scientific statistic is bandied about by motor heads everywhere from classrooms to barrooms, though the truth of the matter is that it's exceedingly complex to measure. A fair performance-per-dollar index would include something like cross-referencing MSRP (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price) with point-to-point times on a track or driving route, which is obviously hard to do comprehensively. But, for the sheer joy of talking about cars and playing with a big spreadsheet, there's always the horsepower-per-dollar index, which is more straightforward, albeit hilariously flawed. There are vagaries even with this simple formula, of course: MSRP for vehicles can change at a moment's notice, to say nothing of the bottom-line shifting that happens with local deals or showroom negotiation. For this list we're running with the straight MSRP wherever possible, and as recently reported as we can get it. All the vehicles on this list are 2017 models, and all trims are reported where the lowest price and differing power levels intersect. Some choices were made for personal preference and some for sanity, avoiding things like all 48 trim levels of the Ford Transit, all with the same horsepower).
