Jaguar’s first compact sedan in more than three decades is equipped with Traction-4 all-wheel drive. Classic styling themes on the X-Type are familiar to Jaguar aficionados and include a traditional forward-leaning grille augmented by some sporty modern touches. Elliptical quad halogen headlights are installed. Fog lights are integrated into the lower front fascia.
Proportion and balance are of prominent importance on the X-Type. Designers substituted a high tail for the traditional low tail of the past, and this styling creates what the manufacturer calls a menacing stance. Alloy wheels hold 17-inch tires on the 3.0 edition.
Interior
Five people fit in the cockpit-style interior, which features Connolly leather and traditional wood veneer in bird’s-eye maple. Standard equipment includes automatic climate control and integrated controls for the stereo.
Under the Hood
This vehicle is automatic & equipped with the 227-hp, 3.0-liter V-6. All-wheel drive normally sends 40 percent of engine power to the front wheels, but it can deliver a split as great as 80/20 when necessary.
Safety
Standard features include dual-stage front airbags, seat-mounted side-impact airbags, and side curtain-type airbags for front and rear occupants. Anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution are standard.
Driving Impressions
On wet, twisty, two-lane roads, the X-Type can demonstrate its handling skills at every curve and corner. Responding quickly and surely to steering inputs, the sedan is confident and surefooted at all speeds. Even on moderately imperfect pavement, the ride is sheer pleasure. Rougher patches can produce some jostling, but the car corrects itself crisply without excessive rebounding by the taut suspension.
Acceleration with the larger engine is vigorous, supremely confident and helped by crisp automatic-transmission operation. The X-Type is exceptionally quiet and exhibits evidence of solid, careful construction. The seats are comfortable and supportive.

2014 Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake is one hot hauler
Wed, 05 Mar 2014Oh look, another super-hot wagon that won't be making its way to the US. Awesome.
Actually, in all honesty, it really is awesome. Meet the Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake, a red-hot (or blue-hot?) version of the rakish XF wagon that originally bowed at the Geneva Motor Show back in 2012. The formula here is pretty much plug-and-play: take the 5.0-liter supercharged V8 from the XFR-S and shove it in the wagon body, and add all of the necessary visual flair fitting of a properly powerful Jag. The end result is an estate that packs 542 horsepower, 502 pound-feet of torque, and the ability to sprint to 60 miles per hour in a scant 4.6 seconds. Meow.
This Jaguar joins a growing segment of ultra-hot wagons in Europe, rounded out by offerings like the Audi RS6 Avant and the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG longroof - the latter of which you can actually buy in North America. Sounds like the sort of comparison test we'd love to facilitate. Guess we'll have to leave that to our friends at Autocar, though.
Jaguar planning all-electric E-Pace crossover
Mon, Oct 26 2015Jaguar hasn't quite finished rolling out the new F-Pace (pictured above), and already reports are circulating of another crossover model to join it in the near future. According to Automobile, it'll be called the E-Pace. Here's the kicker: it'll be all-electric. The E-Pace would take advantage of ultra-efficient aerodynamics in order to drop its drag coefficient to just 0.28 g, thereby increasing efficiency. It'd also be the first fully electric model from Jaguar, and would likely be even smaller than the sporty new F-Pace. Through-the-road all-wheel drive would give it poor weather traction, and the electric motors would provide plenty of low-end punch. The model would go up against the Tesla Model X and a potential production version of the Audi E-Tron Quattro concept revealed in Frankfurt. Rather than handle production in-house, the E-Pace could emerge as the mysterious upcoming model which Jaguar Land Rover is planning to have Magna Steyr build on its behalf. The factory in Graz, Austria has long built the G-Class for Mercedes-Benz, continues to assemble the Mini Countryman, and has also handled models like the Aston Martin Rapide and BMW X3. Automobile figures that Jaguar would need to make at least 20,000 units each year to make the model profitable. For comparison's sake, Tesla is projected to move about 33,000 Model S units in 2015. Even if the E-Pace falls short of this target, the project could be worthwhile for JLR purely for publicity purposes and to help cut its average fleet emissions. Related Video:
Jaguar E-Pace has an F-Type-inspired interior
Fri, Jun 16 2017Jaguar continues to test its new small crossover, tentatively dubbed E-Pace, and that means our spy photographers continue to capture it in the wild. This time, we got some photos of the interior. From what we can see, it follows in the footsteps of the the F-Type sports car, rather than Jaguar's sedans and larger F-Pace crossover. From the air vents down, the center stack gently slopes toward the shifter. It also has a large grab handle on the passenger side like that in the F-Type. This also makes the center stack feel more driver-centric. The shifter is also F-Type-inspired. While the Jaguar sedans and the F-Pace use a motorized dial that rises from the center console for shifting, the F-Type uses a conventional lever, as does this E-Pace. These interior design choices seem to indicate that Jaguar will market this E-Pace as being a sportier Jaguar than its existing lineup. Our spy photographer also caught this E-Pace prototype with the hatch up. This clearly shows that the E-Pace will have a radically raked rear window. Matched with the voluptuous rear fenders, the E-Pace should have a very aggressive look. As a side note, the open hatch also reveals that there are at least one or two members of the Jaguar team that like Budweiser. We still expect a reasonably long wait until the E-Pace makes its full debut, likely sometime next year at the earliest. We're also expecting the crossover to have a front-wheel-drive-based all-wheel-drive system like the Range Rover Evoque, and it may even use the Evoque platform. While not a bad platform or drive system, most any car enthusiast or journalist would agree that a rear-wheel drive platform would be more naturally sporty and in keeping with this car's interior and possible marketing.
