This is a very beautiful Jaguar. The way you see it is the way it is maintained. Always garaged, it has the classic styling of the early Jaguars with modern engineering for durability, speed and elegance. In 2005, the S-Type received a mild refreshing with a revised interior, a retuned suspension, and the addition of the great ZF six-speed transmission as standard on all models.

The high-performance trim line - designated "R" - boasts a supercharged 4.2-liter V8 that spins out 400-hp and 400-lb ft of torque with a sports configured suspension laced up with big Brembo brakes. The supercharger offers immediate response, linear power, and what feels like limitless torque. When the supercharger sings, this almost 2-ton beauty can flash from 0 to 60 in 5.1 seconds and reach an electronically governed 155 mph.

The ZF six-speed, considered by some as the best automatic out there - used on the new BMW 7 Series - adapts to the driving conditions. In sport mode, it holds the gear for corners and hills and stays in fifth until it senses a steady state for 30 seconds. Power flows through this silky smooth transmission to Jaguar's unique Computer Active Technology Suspension (CATS) that uses electronic control systems dynamically to tune the suspension in accordance with the driving conditions. You get it all: dampening when the road gets rough, firmness through the corners with sensitivity to changing road conditions. The R comes with ABS and Emergency Brake Assist, Dynamic Stability Control, and traction control. It even has an aluminum hood to improve the car's weight distribution.

Rich leather, stitched upholstery wraps the passengers in close, luxurious comfort. The R offers tighter front seating with increased bolstering to hold the occupants in on those twisty roads. The rear seats 60/40 split fold down to increase cargo space.

With the whine of the supercharger, the sinuous body styling, the close, well-appointed cockpit, and the masterful command of the road - this Jaguar will make you feel like you've arrived.

542-HP Jaguar XJR to debut at New York Auto Show

Wed, 20 Mar 2013

Jaguar has just announced that a higher-than-ever performance version of its XJ flagship will be coming to this year's New York Auto Show next week. Joining the company's R lineup is this XJR, which will boast a stonking 542 horsepower from its supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine.
Though details about the new XJ are pretty slim - you can read Jag's teaser of a press release - we are told that the car will ride on a "bespoke chassis" and that some aerodynamics work has been done, as well. The one sultry image we have of the car shows a set of trim-specific wheels, lower sills and unique badging on the front grille.
The new XJR would seem to slot above the current top-dog XJ, the XJ Supersport. With a bump up of 32 hp versus the Supersport, performance should get a meaningful shot in the arm, as well. As for pricing, we'll have to wait for the NYC show to be sure. But other Jaguar models show an increase of between 15- and 20-percent between the R model and the next one down; that would indicate a price tag in the $130k range for a standard wheelbase XJR is in order.

Jaguar C-X17 crossover concept revealed, hides new lightweight aluminum architecture

Mon, 09 Sep 2013

Just as Jaguar teased earlier this month, the luxury marque is debuting its first-ever sports crossover concept at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, which begins this week. In addition to previewing what a soft-roading Jag might look like, the C-X17 concept also showcases the brand's new advanced unibody aluminum architecture, which it calls the future of its brand.
The British automaker touts the new technical foundation as high-strength, lightweight and extremely stiff, and notes that it incorporates sustainable technologies such as a high-strength alloy made from recycled raw material. The architecture's flexibility means Jaguar will be able to simultaneously manufacture several vehicles on the same production line - a change that will ultimately help the automaker grow its product portfolio.
Indeed, if the C-X17 concept sees production, it would represent a completely new direction for Jaguar, which has previously focused on luxury sedans and sports cars. However, while Jaguar says a range of future models will be built using the new architecture, it hasn't yet mentioned a crossover. The first model to be built on the new underpinnings will launch globally in 2015, and it's - you guessed it - a premium midsize sedan.

Jaguar Land Rover parent Tata posts a loss over coronavirus

Tue, Oct 27 2020

BENGALURU — India's Tata Motors posted a wider loss for the September quarter on Tuesday as the COVID-19 pandemic sapped demand in several of its key markets. The global health crisis has hammered sales for automakers worldwide and compounded problems for Tata Motors, which was trying to improve Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) sales amid weak demand and uncertainty related to Brexit. Tata Motors reported a consolidated net loss of 3.14 billion rupees ($42.47 million) for the second quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with a loss of 2.17 billion rupees a year earlier. Retail unit sales at luxury car unit JLR, which rakes in most of the company's revenue, was down nearly 12% for the reported quarter. Tata Motors, however, said it expects JLR sales to gradually improve. "Despite concerns around the risk of a second wave of (COVID-19) infections ... we expect a gradual recovery of demand and supply in the coming months," the carmaker said in an exchange filing. Total revenue from operations fell 18.2% to 535.3 billion rupees. Tata Motors said it was committed to achieving near-zero net automotive debt in the coming years. Shares of Tata Motors ended 1.46% higher on Tuesday while the broader Mumbai market settled 1.03% higher.
