BEAUTIFUL DARK SILVER BLUE JAGUAR XKE CONVERTIBLE

Click on the top left large picture for a slide show. California car originally.   "j68" plate riveted  next to number plate   (only California did this when they were new) Beautiful darker opalescent silver blue  8 of 10. Dark blue vinyl top with clear rear window   8 of 10. Bumpers rechromed   9 of 10. New rubber moulding around bumpers. Wheels  8+ of 10. Tires have like new tread. Series 1 spinners on the wheels. Car runs VERY strong.    Flame thrower coil.   Electronic ignition. Oil and filter just changed.  New plugs. Compression  is 155  165  163  155 160  165.   Excellent compression. The clutch, synchros in the transmission, and brakes are all excellent. Very nice dark blue leather seats,  new foam seat  bottoms,  new dark blue door panels, new door panel chrome,  new dark blue front carpets, new trunk boards and new trunk cardboard sides, rear, and hardura mat in trunk. Front end is tight with no bouncing or squeaks. 68 was the first year of the "k" gearbox instead of the "j" gearbox on series 1s.   j and k are the first letters of the gearbox number. It shifts Noticeably smoother than the series 1s and is a real pleasure to drive. Of course it has dual fans on the radiator. Never gets even to center of temp guage. Series 1 looking seats without headrests that Recline and are more comfortable than series 1s. 68s have the same exact bonnet as late 67s, so glass headlight covers can be retrofitted. I have had this done on a late 67.  It costs about $600 in parts per side and $600 labor per side.  There is no painting involved. Engine was rebuilt about 20,000 miles ago and it is Strong. This car has FANTASTIC oil pressure--60 lbs oil pressure at road speed with the car warmed up! This car runs as fast with 2 carbs as 3 carb cars. I drove it last night with the top down and it put a big smile on my face as I accelerated through the gears and negotiated the curves. It is a true joy to drive!

Chris Harris finds the Jaguar F-Type R Coupe rather drifty

Wed, 26 Mar 2014

Our own Matt Davis may have called the new Jaguar F-Type R Coupe "one heady rascal," but our review was disappointingly short on drifting, tire smoke and general, English shenanigans. You know, the sort of things that Chris Harris from Drive excels at.
Actually, relative to Harris' other reviews, this one is rather serious. There's a good recap of the F-Type on the road, with Harris referencing the car's "great bottom" and "amazing ass," quite frequently. Surprisingly, Harris says the more powerful F-Type R is just "incrementally" faster than the 495-horsepower F-Type V8 S Convertible. Following the on-road portion, it's off to the track. You can probably predict what goes on there. Overall, aside from some quibbles, Harris has nothing but praise for the newest cat.

Land Rover knows where you're going and how you want to get there

Thu, 10 Jul 2014

Land Rover makes some of the most capable SUVs on or off the road, and some of the most luxurious too. But the British automaker isn't about to rest on those laurels - not when every other automaker assaults its territory with sport-utes of their own. That's why Land Rover has been working so hard on nifty new technologies from a depth-sounder in the door mirror of the Range Rover Sport an augmented-reality head-up display that makes the whole front of the car virtually disappear.
JLR's newest tech may not be ground-breaking, but its integration promises to make driving around town that much easier. The system syncs with the driver's smartphone and uses all manner of parameters - including driver habits, weather and location as well as the presence of other passengers - to make the commute go as smoothly as possible. Get into the car and it'll set the seat and mirrors for you. No big deal, because lots of cars do that. But it'll also set up the nav system to take you to work and the sound system to play your favorite music. Okay, getting more interesting.
Get in with your kids and it'll know not only that you've got to drop them off at school first (or remind you to pack their gym bag if they've got soccer practice after school that day) but that they might not enjoy that Chumbawamba album you've been listening to since college and it'll play something it knows you'll all enjoy based on your listening history. Then it'll switch back to Tubthumping once the kids are out, remind you of your morning meeting and alert those you're scheduled to meet with if you get stuck in traffic while finding you a better route to get there, monitoring fuel levels all the while and telling you if you'll need to tank up before you reach your destination. It knows if you like calling your mother on the drive to work and will lower the air suspension to make it easier to hop out once you get there.

Has the Jaguar XKR-S Sportbrake leaked out early?

Sun, 23 Feb 2014

Want to haul ass down the Autobahn with the whole family and all their gear in tow? Forget that Porsche Cayenne or Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 - what you'll want is a power wagon: something like an Audi RS6 Avant or Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG Estate. Unfortunately there are precious few of these performance station wagons on the market anywhere, especially with American offerings like the Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon on its way out and the Dodge Magnum SRT8 long gone. But there's a new challenger emerging.
That'd be the Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake, a hi-po estate from Coventry that's been a long time in the making. And now it's apparently almost here. (Only by "here," we mean "there," as it's not likely ever to come to the United States.)
Apparently set to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show is a Frankenstein-style cross between a Jaguar XF Sportbrake and XFR-S performance sedan, taking the best elements from both. From the former, that means the extended roofline that gives it the cargo capacity of a small crossover. From the former, that means a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 producing 542 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque, driving the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
