This Trooper is a lot of fun to drive, and runs strong! Drives smooth for big tires, no weird alignment problems. Wheels are aluminum. Body has no dents but some rust spots. Actually, after I bought it, I realized the roof rack was secured to the roof by sheet metal screws & o-rings and nobody took care of keeping them tight to seal out water and on some screw holes, they rusted into some big rust spots. I patched them with some galvanized thin sheet metal & silicon. I planned to clean and weld the holes up, but never got around to it. I no longer have the roof rack. Because of slow leaks to inside, the carpet was mildewy so I removed it. After I bought it, the headgasket blew out so I replaced it with a used engine which still runs relatively strong today. This year I replaced the catalytic converter with a brand new one, so it passes smog easily. Fairly new cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires, PCV valve, oil filter, air filter, etc. The driver's side door lever (inside) broke recently, but still works. Front window has original crack (one long one) which I never fixed/ never seemed to bother me for an old beater truck like this (doesn't inhibit driving view at all). Replaced water pump with a new one last year, so no more leaks! Also replaced both upper & lower radiator hoses. I replaced the A/C compressor last year too! Heater works well. New OEM rubber shifter boot. Has an older Sony CD player stereo, CD player skips a little, but stereo sounds nice via Aux input or FM radio + Kenwood 6x9 speaker boxes. Lightly tinted windows. Driver's side rear-view mirror has mirror-glass missing, but I have the replacement mirror-glass for it. Mileage estimated. I'll try to find more pics to post. This truck is about 30mins away from me at my mom's house. It served me well, moving my stuff around in it's big cargo space and keeping the rain off my stuff. It's really an extra 'fun' truck I had for a long time, but I don't seem to use it too much anymore so I've decided to sell it. I've only actually took it 4-bying once on the lame Big Bear auto trail, so not a lot of 'real' 4-bying action, mainly used it for cargo transportation (back seat folds down for even more cargo space). I don't know what else to say about it. It has chrome trim. The tires still have pretty good tread. Its a 1991 so you can't expect it to be the best, but I took pretty good care of it to keep it running well. You'll have to do the same. In this year of Isuzu Trooper, the standard engine was a GM V6 3.2L which was a very popular & well designed engine for it's time (the 80s, heheh!). This means it was the same engine used on Chevy Blazers, S10 pickups, etc. Very easy to find if you needed parts or replacement.

Junkyard Gem: 2000 Honda Passport 4WD
Sun, Nov 20 2022The suits at American Honda Motor Company must have spent the bulk of the 1990s tearing out their hair in frustration as their rivals raked in big money from the sales of ever-more-profitable SUVs, even as American car shoppers lost interest in sedans and hatchbacks. Oh, sure, the Civic-based CR-V appeared here for the 1997 model year and sold well enough, but the lack of a larger SUV pained Honda more with each passing year. With the Acura MDX and Honda Pilot not ready for showrooms until the 2001 and 2002 model years, respectively, some stopgap had to be found. Isuzu stepped up and made a deal with Honda: the Rodeo would get Honda badges and become the Passport, while the Trooper would show up in Acura showrooms with SLX badges (for the 1994 and 1995 model years, respectively). Here's one of those Passports, found in a Denver-area self-service yard. Things got even weirder in the Isuzu/Honda world around the turn of the century, with the Honda Odyssey getting Isuzu badges and being sold as the Oasis. Fast-forward to 2009, and the only Isuzu-badged vehicles available new here were rebadged Chevrolets: the I-Series pickup (Chevy Colorado) and the Ascender (Chevy Trailblazer). The Passport name has some interesting American Honda history, stretching back to the first Honda vehicle sold here (and the biggest-selling motor vehicle in human history): the Super Cub. American Honda Motor Company couldn't use the Super Cub name on our shores, because Piper Aircraft had been selling a small plane called the Super Cub since 1949, so the motorcycle was called the Honda 50 over here. Eventually, this bike got a 70cc engine and became the Honda C70 Passport, sales of which continued through the middle 1980s. That means the Passports sitting in your local Honda dealership right now got their name from a one-cylinder motorcycle. General Motors has a Passport connection as well; when GM created the Geo brand to sell rebadged Isuzus, Suzukis, and Toyotas in the United States, it created a marque called Passport to sell the Daewoo LeMans as the Optima in Canada (all the other vehicles sold by Passport dealers were Isuzus). So, Honda's need to offer SUVs in its American dealerships led to an arrangement with GM-connected Isuzu to sell these trucks with a model name bearing links to both companies. So much history in the junkyard! Just as Geo-badged Toyota Corollas (mostly) got Delco radios, so did the Passport get Honda radios.
Come see all the cool cars in Geneva that we don't get in America
Mon, Mar 12 2018The Geneva Motor Show is usually the highlight of auto show season. There are always a ton of interesting debuts. This year alone, we saw new models from McLaren, Ferrari, Porsche, Mercedes-AMG and more. That doesn't count the ridiculous and tasteless stuff that comes out of Brabus or Mansory. Personally, one of the biggest reasons I enjoy going is to see all the cool stuff that we won't get in America. Watch the video for a brief walkaround of the show floor. Even the city streets offer unusual sights for Americans. Geneva is so close to France that there are Citroens, Peugeots and Renaults everywhere. Then there are cars like the Volkswagen Polo and Up! or a multitude of wagon variants of cars like the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4 and A6. Even the exotics come out in droves. There was a Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer parked along a side street. There were two Lamborghini Aventadors parked outside our hotel. Just Geneva things. Junkyard Gem: 1997 Acura SLX
Mon, Sep 25 2023By the second half of the 1990s, the tremendous sales success of the Ford Explorer (introduced as a 1991 model) and Jeep Grand Cherokee (introduced as a 1993 model) had made it clear clear that the future of the American road would be trucks. Any automotive manufacturer not selling a full line of SUV-ish machinery here would be irrelevant soon after the dawn of the new century, and the car-and-bike-centric American Honda Motor Company was therefore in big trouble. The Civic could be used as the basis for a small crossover SUV (which debuted here as the 1997 Honda CR-V), but Honda needed to buy time to design and produce the platform that would underpin the 2001 Acura MDX and 2003 Honda Pilot. That time was purchased via a deal to sell rebadged Isuzu trucks as Hondas and Acuras. Today's Junkyard Gem is one of those Honda-ized Isuzus, found in a Colorado boneyard. Honda began selling the Isuzu Rodeo as the Passport (recycling the name they'd used on the U.S.-market Super Cub motorcycle) for the 1994 model year, and Acura dealers started moving SLX-badged Isuzu Troopers in the 1997 model year. Just to make things interesting in the Isuzu-Honda world, North American Isuzu dealers sold Honda Odysseys with Isuzu Oasis badges at the same time. Isuzu had gone all-truck for the American market after the last Styluses (and closely related Geo Storms) were sold here as 1993 models. Sadly, Isuzu's final (non-commercial) new vehicles sold here were rebadged Chevy Trailblazers and Colorados, more than 30 years after Chevrolet began selling Isuzu Faster pickups here with LUV badges. Honda never did build any body-on-frame trucks, but that proved unnecessary in order to make some money during the CUV/SUV era. The SLX never sold particularly well, but it gave Acura dealers a luxury truck to park next to the Integras, TLs, RLs, CLs and NSXs in their showrooms. After 1999, the SLX was gone, leaving just the 2000 model year as a blank spot for Acura-badged SUVs. This truck held together like a real Honda product, getting fairly close to the 300,000-mile mark (I've found junkyard Accords with better than a half-million miles on their odometers, plus one apiece Civic and CR-V that got past 400,000 miles during their lives). The original owner's manuals were still in the glovebox when I found this truck. At the end, it appears that it was towed away for being parked illegally. Maybe the engine or transmission failed and its final owner just walked away.
