1980 Scout II Turbo Diesel. Last year of the Scouts, only year for the factory Nissan SD-33T Turbo Diesel engine. Close ratio 4 speed, Dana 300 transfer case, and 3.54 gears. Runs great, been driving it daily. Finished in Jade Green with rare Russet tartan interior. Line set ticket is intact on the glove box door.

Basically stock with some driver modifications including 3 inch exhaust, pyrometer, boost gauge, trailer brake controller, and drilled air cleaner. Cruises comfortably at 50-55mph (2800rpm, 450 on the pyrometer, 3 pounds of boost) I've never brought the exhaust temp over 550. Brand new 235/75-15 Goodyear DuraTracs installed in August. Drives very beautifully, front end is tight. 1980 Scouts were the only year of any castor in the front end (1 degree) and it makes a huge difference in how the truck tracks down the road. 76k miles. Gets amazing fuel economy.(20-25 mpg)

The body is very solid with a few small spots of rust starting. The paint is good, but has some flaws. I believe the paint above the striping is original, and the the hood and roof have worn through in spots. I felt it added character to the truck and elected to leave it. The paint has it's share of scratches and dings, but it's all in keeping with what you would expect from a largely original 33 year old Scout. There are some spots of surface rust starting under the paint. There are spots along the rockers where repairs were made and paint doesn't quite match. There is one spot behind the passenger side front wheel where there is black painted patch that could need some attention soon. There are two bubbles under the paint on the rear quarter panels. They have not increased in size or changed at all since I bought the truck. There is one spot inside the passenger door on the sill that has rusted through.(See photos) It's been there since I bought the truck and has not gotten any worse. Lastly, there is a dent in the driver's side rear quarter panel. It did not break the paint and could likely be popped out with a little patience and the right tools.   The floors were patched in a few spots to a driver standard. The frame is rock solid, and the entire chassis has been undercoated. Please look a the photos carefully. If your able to I would strongly encourage any interested buyers to come see the truck in persons.

The interior is in excellent condition with the exception of large split on the driver's side bolster.  I believe the vinyl flooring is original and while in surprisingly good condition, it has cracked in spots. The door cards, passenger seat, and rear seat are in great condition. As mentioned above a tachometer, pyrometer, and boost gauge were added, all VDO brand. There is a basic but does the job Alpine CD player playing through the stock single dash speaker. All gauges work, as do the interior lights and heater blower.

The SD-33T engine runs very well. I always run a cetane boost additive in the fuel. The engine starts easily and the glow plugs are strong. (The truck has been starting reliably down to -3 degrees without a block heater.) As mentioned above I have been driving the Scout almost daily. It's surprisingly comfortable and quite for a vintage SUV (Much quieter than a Series Rover of FJ40). The transmission shifts smoothly, as does the transfer case. The factory locking hubs engage smoothly and with little effort. The truck has been driven in 4wd at least once a month to keep the front axle lubricated. The Scout can cruise comfortably on the highway at 50-55mph. It will go faster, but I don't like to push it too hard. That speed seems to be the sweet spot, and honestly no one should be going any faster in a Scout!

The brakes are strong. Disc brakes up front, drums in the rear. The truck stops strait and true. The master cylinder, brake booster, and brake lines appear to have been replaced recently. There is power steering and a tilt steering column. The parking brake engages, but the locking tooth on the pedal assemble is broken. A replacement assembly is included.

In November I changed the oil and filter (Shell Rotella), fuel filter, and adjusted the valves. I have driven the truck roughly 600 miles since.

I've done my best to point out all the flaws on the truck. Despite those flaws, this really is nicer than most that you see around here. The truck is not a trailer queen and as mentioned above I've been driving almost daily. Please look at the photos carefully and ask questions before bidding. I would strongly encourage anyone who is interested to come see the truck in person. Remember this is a 33 year old, largely original, Scout. It is a reliable driver, not a garage queen. Please feel free to contact me with any and all questions. I have many more photos available upon request.

If you know what your looking at you know how hard good Scouts are to find, let alone a stock turbo diesel example.  A white Kayline soft top is included with all hardware, as well as a factory service manual. (I've never taken the hard top off, nor have I installed the soft top)

The vehicle is sold with a bill of sale only. Maine does not issue titles on vehicles of this age. The vehicle is as is, where is, but I am happy to assist with shipping. $500 deposit due with 24hours of the auction ending, full payment within seven days. I will not release the vehicle until it is paid for in full.

Please remember to ask questions before bidding. I am happy to show the truck in person and answer any and all questions via phone or email.
