1968 Scout 800A
4WD 3 Speed Manual 196 IH 4 Cylinder Engine Dana 20 Transfer Case Dana 44 Rear with 4.10 Dana 25 Front with 4.10 Warn Locking Hubs Engine This Scout has a NOS New Old Stock Motor with about 500 miles on it. I have driven it to car show here locally. I found this new engine being sold as a NOS by a dealer up north. It is considered a Scout II 196 so it does generate more HP than the original engine. It came with Electronic Ignition already installed. Everything is new on this motor. It has the Weber carb. Regulated Alternator conversion has been done. I features a Holly Electric Fuel Pump for reliability. The Radiator was recored. Of course all the hoses are new as well. Suspension and body mounts The leafs are all original, but it has rebuilt shackles and spring eye rubber. All the body mounts are new poly with new hardware. Brakes Brakes are all new front to back with the exception of the master cylinder. They work well for manual drum all around, but I would probably upgrade to a dual master cylinder or even better power brakes with disc on the front for sure stopping power. All the brake lines and hoses are new as well as the wheel cylinders. Transmission and Transfer Case The transmission was rebuilt with new seals all the way through. It is a 3 speed. The Transfer case is a Spicer 18 original and it has been rebuilt as well. New front drive shaft and good rear drive shaft with new U-Joints. Warn Locking Hubs up front. The front and rear axles still work great with not noise. Shifts easily into 4 Low or High. It has a new clutch that was the larger 11" version and hard to find. It is a little stiff because of the HD springs but works good. Interior The interior has new marine grade vinyl on all the seats. IH seat belts up front and Aviation Style in the back that can be adjusted for kids or adults. Original seat in the rear in the correct location. The Scout did not have a good floor, so all the old rusty metal was cut out and a custom square tube bed support and OEM stamped floor was installed. All the sheet metal that needed replaced was replaced and strengthened. It is much more solid than the factory sheet metal. That floor and supports will be there for a long time. There were a few patch panels welded in the floors and behind the seats. They were sealed with POR15 and Lined on top to prevent rust. All new gauges. The speedo needs a cable. The temp and oil gauge work, but read high since the alternator was converted. A voltage reducer may correct this. Both tank sending units work and the fuel gauge works with the switch for each side. It has the original radio that works great. Gas Tanks New MTS sending units and poly tanks on both sides. You have to fill manually unless you have a older slow pump in your neighborhood. I just fill them with a jug so not to get it on the paint. Exterior The Scout has a decent paint job with imperfections. It is not show quality, but a good driving quality. Down the road you might consider investing in a high dollar paint job if you wanted to show it. I think this one is meant to take anywhere you want it and look good doing it. Everyone loves the color combo. It is the original Aztec Green Metallic in a base/clear. This Scout has the rare spare tire carrier with matching spare. It also has the original hub caps and vintage radial tires that are new. All the badges are new except the front one. The bumpers were re-chromed front and back. Softopper Top It has a new top that can be folded back or all the window rolled up. It has a nice cover for when you lower it. The frame bolts to the Scout with no screws and is all Aluminum so it does not rust. A great top and looks awesome. This is a good driving, riding Scout. It handles well on the road for a Scout 800. It like to go about 50-55 but it can be pushed to 65 MPH if you want. It rattles with the tire carrier and is noisy at highway speeds like a Scout should be. That is part of the charm of this vintage utility vehicle. It also a very capable off road vehicle I thing would go anywhere. It is low and geared right for the task. Please let me know if you have any questions about this beautiful Scout. Thanks for looking and good luck. $500 due at the end of the auction. Balance in cash or cashiers check. I will assist in shipping this nice Scout anywhere in the US. No warranty, no returns, AS IS. I recommend you inspect it before bidding. Do not bid and waste my time and money if you do not have the funds. It is not free to list on Ebay. Please be respectful.
