2022 Infiniti Q50 adds standard features, drops base trim

The 2022 Infiniti Q50 is nearly unchanged for the new model year. The only really substantial changes are a couple new interior features. Apple CarPlay can now be used wirelessly, and is standard along with wired Android Auto compatibility. Your streamed tunes also play through a standard Bose 16-speaker sound system. Additionally, all Q50 models come with real leather upholstery, power memory seats and power tilting and telescoping steering column. The trim line-up also gets a tweak. The base Pure trim has been eliminated, leaving just three trim levels: Luxe, Sensory and Red Sport 400. Engine and drivetrain options are the same, with the standard engine being a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 making 300 horsepower. The Red Sport 400 gets a 400-horsepower version of the engine along with brake and suspension upgrades. Both engines use a seven-speed automatic transmission and can be paired with rear- or all-wheel drive. With the loss of the Pure trim, the base price has naturally jumped. The new starting point is the $43,125 Luxe, which is also $300 more than last year's Luxe. The Sensory starts at $48,825, and the Red Sport 400 starts at $56,975, each trim costing $100 more than last year. The 2022 Q50 models will arrive at dealers this month. Infiniti Q50 sedan recalled over steering software glitch

The Basics: Infiniti will recall around 60,000 Q50 sedans globally due to a glitch in the software that controls the cars' direct adaptive steering system. It's this hardware and software that allows the Q50 to steer itself autonomously under certain conditions. A total of 28,182 Q50 sedans will be recalled in the US, with another 3,804 in Canada. We're not certain yet which model years will be recalled, but the direct adaptive steering debuted in 2014. The Problem: According to Infiniti spokesperson Stefan Weinmann, "in certain rare circumstances, just after starting the vehicle" a software glitch "can lead to a lack of steering responsiveness and change in turning radius." Injuries/Deaths: None reported. The Fix: Infiniti hasn't yet announced how it will fix the issue, but a software update seems likely. That means a trip to the dealership. Airbag recall widens to include BMW, Chrysler, Ford and Toyota

The recall of faulty airbag inflators supplied by Takata has exploded today to grow to seven automakers. In most cases, only models in certain high-humidity regions were affected because the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found in its investigation that moisture played a roll in determining whether there would be a problem. However, some companies opted for national campaigns. The exact number of affected models for these campaigns isn't yet known at this time.
BMW is recalling an undisclosed number of 325i, 325Xi, 330i and 330Xi models from the 2001 through 2005 model years and the 2001-2006 model year versions of the 325Ci and 330Ci for the driver side and passenger side inflators. Only vehicles currently registered in Florida, Puerto Rico, Hawaii and the US Virgin Islands are covered under this recall.
Neither Chrysler's filing with NHTSA nor its press release list the specific models affected, but a company spokesperson told Autoblog that at this time it only covers the driver and passenger side inflators for the 2006 Dodge Charger in Florida, Puerto Rico, Hawaii and the US Virgin Islands
