I’m selling my much-beloved 2003 Infiniti FX35 RWD Sport with 124,386 miles on it because my wife and I no longer need two vehicles: Since we moved close to downtown Indy, we can bike pretty much everywhere or share our Prius when necessary.

This luxurious crossover is in good condition for its age. It features a rare black exterior/light tan (almost orange) leather interior combo and has the perfect mix of gorgeous styling, fun-to-drive speed and handling, and room. Plus, it’s ultra-reliable and rated extremely highly by Consumer Reports and many other automotive publications.

I’ve had zero problems with the car’s reliability and have had the oil regularly and professionally changed, the tires regularly rotated, and the body washed often. Service has been done at manufacturer’s recommended intervals. Until last month, the car was stored nightly in my garage.

Given its surprising speed and compared to other cars, this FX gets good gas mileage. Driven reasonably, you’ll get about 18 mpg city/25 mpg highway. I say “reasonably” because this car begs to be driven like a sports car: The interior feels like a cockpit, and the nimble handling and one-of-a-kind tuned sound from the dual exhaust make this car feel incredible and drive like no other in its class. I got about 20 mpg combined, though if you drive this car as fast as you’ll want to, expect less, of course.

More features:

  • new Duracell 12V Procell 24 battery with 1-year warranty
  • professionally installed privacy tint on driver’s side and passenger side windows to match factory tint in rear
  • 20” chrome Infiniti wheels
  • Yokohama Parada tires installed at 92,000 miles--work well in all weather conditions and have free rotations & balancing through Discount Tire
  • incredible Bose sound system, with spare-tire-mounted subwoofer, 6-disc in-dash CD player, and cassette player (you do still have some cassettes, right?)
  • 2 key fobs (one’s shell is broken but it still works)
  • 1 key, with an uncut/unprogrammed spare
  • cold AC
  • working cruise control
  • telescoping steering wheel & gauges
  • traction control (turn this off in the snow for some fun)
  • heavy-duty rubber trunk protector mat
  • dual power front seats (driver’s has 2 memory settings) & reclining rear seats
  • roof rack
  • smoke-free

I bought this FX almost 5 years ago from a dealer in Phoenix, AZ with 83,426 miles on it and had it shipped to me on a truck. As with any 10+ year-old car, it’s showing signs of age. The chrome wheels were nearly mint thanks to the weather out there, but after one winter here, they started to get pitted (see picture.) The driver’s seat has a tear in the leather. The rear windows roll down when controlled from the front seat, but not up (however they will go up if you use their own switches.) The outside mirrors don’t always move right away when you press their buttons. The passenger-side rear door appears to have been repainted for some reason before I purchased the car and is duller than the rest of the car and has some chips in the paint (though a vehicle history report doesn’t show any accidents.) The brake pads and rack and pinion will likely need to be replaced soon, though I don’t know when. And, because I used to put my dogs in the back with the seats folded down and the metal barrier up so they couldn’t get in front, the rear bumper is scratched from them jumping in--and there’s bound to be some dog hair in the car when you get it. Thankfully, I haven’t seen any signs of rust on the car.

If you can look past those minor issues and want a sporty, luxurious, reliable, sexy car with room to spare, this is the car for you. Everything else on it works, including the sunroof, and I have all the records of oil changes and maintenance if you want them.

I'm happy to help ship this vehicle insofar as being here when a certified, reliable shipper comes to pick it up, but I won't arrange the shipping for you.

If you aren't sure you want this vehicle or aren't sure you can afford the price you're bidding, please do not bid.

Please don’t hesitate to ask questions; I’ll do my best to answer them. I have a LOT more pictures, so just ask if you'd like anything specific.

2015 Monaco F1 Grand Prix race recap [spoilers]

Mon, May 25 2015

Lewis Hamilton came to Monaco with a new three-year deal with Mercedes-AMG Petronas and a vow to not let anything, including any "mistakes" by teammate Nico Rosberg, stand in the way of his best qualifying effort. Mercedes reportedly made it rain with a 100-million-pound deal, and Hamilton made it rain right back with his first pole position at Monaco. Rosberg did make a mistake but this time it was behind Hamilton, which meant he stuffed-up the qualifying attempts of rival drivers like Sebastian Vettel. So Rosberg starts second, 0.342 behind Hamilton but 0.449 ahead of Vettel in the Ferrari. Daniel Ricciardo thinks he should have been third, but a communication error with his engineers left him in the wrong engine setting for his final hot lap, so by the very first corner he'd lost the time he would have needed to get higher than fourth on the grid. The second Infiniti Red Bull Racing of Daniil Kvyat slots in behind him, ahead of the second Ferrari of Kimi "Not A Very Happy Day" Raikkonen, who just can't get it going lately. Sergio Perez did for the Sahara Force India what the car can't do on its own, which is grab a top-ten qualifying spot. Toro Rosso rookie Carlos Sainz had qualified eighth but missed a call to the weigh bridge, so he's been slapped into the pit lane. Pastor Maldonado in the Lotus inherits his eighth place, ahead of rookie Max Verstappen in the second Toro Rosso, and Jenson Button in the McLaren. Button only got up there because of two penalties: for Sainz, and Romain Grosjean who had qualified 11th but took a penalty for a gearbox change. Want to know how hard it is to do better on race day than in qualifying at Monaco? Even the never-say-die Fernando Alonso said, "Monte Carlo is a train of cars on Sunday, the race finishes on Saturday afternoon." Well obviously, he didn't take Max Verstappen's seek-and-destroy tactics into account. The young Dutchman had made passing look like a real option in Monaco, getting past Maldonado at St. Devote on Lap 7 after a bit of argy-bargy on Lap 6, then taking advantage of blue flags to slink past teammate Carlos Sainz and Williams driver Valtteri Bottas while hiding in Sebastian Vettel's slipstream. He tried the same move on Romain Grosjean on Lap 65, but Grosjean locked him out. Verstappen lined up the Lotus driver over the following laps, then looked like he slipped to the inside at St.

Analyzing De Nyscchen's 25-year comeback plan for Infiniti

Sat, 19 Jan 2013

"It took us 25 years to bring Audi back in the US. This kind of thing takes a long time."
When Johan De Nysschen left his post at Audi of America last year to take the seemingly thankless job of leading Infiniti's global operations, it seemed like a familiar scenario. Like Michael Dukakis going from one of two men that could have won the White House to teaching political science at an obscure Florida college.

Infiniti Q Inspiration Concept shows a future with variable compression

Mon, Jan 15 2018

For weeks, Infiniti has been teasing the Q Inspiration Concept ahead of its official debut at the Detroit Auto Show. Details were absent, but the design was clean, swoopy athletic. Not seeing any tailpipes on the rear end, we hoped it could sport some kind of electrified powertrain, but surmised that Infiniti could take the opportunity to further showcase its variable compression turbocharged engine technology. Now, Inifniti has officially taken the wraps off its Q Inspiration Concept, and has indeed chosen to use the stunning show car to demonstrate "near future applications" of the potent yet efficient VC-Turbo tech. VC-Turbo made its production debut in the 2019 QX50 at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show. Here, in the Q Inspiration, VC-Turbo allows Infiniti designers to make the most of the packaging, taking advantage of the compact powertrain to increase the size of the cabin while maintaining the footprint of a mid-size car. Electric automakers like Fisker, Lucid Motors and the like have been doing something similar with electric powertrains, but Infiniti's VC-Turbo allows the company to do something similar with technology that is ready for primetime, while still bridging the gap to more efficient future powertrains. VC-Turbo, as we've learned earlier, allows the engine to change and optimize compression ratios on the fly, between 8:1 for high-performance situations, to 14:1 for maximum efficiency. Mounted to the exhaust manifold integrated in the cylinder heads of the four-cylinder engine is a single-scroll turbocharger. The system, says Infiniti, provides the torque and response of a hybrid or turbodiesel powertrain without sacrificing efficiency. In the Q Inspiration, the power is directed to four wheels via a front-biased all-wheel-drive drivetrain. The system can direct torque to the rear wheels individually as needed. As a design study, the Q Inspiration is a success. The proportions and lines are sleek and attractive, accentuated by the car's white paint. There's kind of a lot going on up front, with a large "double-arch" grille at the leading edge. Everything behind that, though, looks particularly harmonious. Its elongated cabin and coupe-like dimensions help provide efficiency while maximizing headroom for the four occupants. It's a car that stands up to close inspection, as attention to detail makes it more interesting the closer you scrutinize it, inside and out.
