2015 Hyundai Genesis earns IIHS TSP+ [w/video]
Wed, 07 May 2014Hyundai has just earned itself another Top Safety Pick+ award, following on the success of the Elantra way back in August 2013. The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety has certified the new, second-generation Genesis luxury sedan as a TSP+ following a successful round of crash testing.
The Genesis secured the prestigious ranking with the help of a "good" rating in the notorious small-overlap front crash test. Data from dummies showed that there was a low risk of serious injury in the 40-mile-per-hour impact.
Beside the small-overlap test result, the Genny scored a "superior" on the frontal crash test, while the moderate overlap, side, roof strength and head restraint scores were "good."
Genesis, Hyundai, Ram win North American Car, Utility, Truck of the Year at NAIAS
Mon, Jan 14 2019DETROIT — The Hyundai Genesis G70, Hyundai Kona/Kona Electric and the Ram pickup have received North American car, sport utility and truck of the year awards. The awards were announced Monday at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. This year's car finalists also included the Honda Insight and Volvo S60/V60. Truck finalists included the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500. SUV finalists also included the Acura RDX and the Jaguar I-Pace. Last year's winners were the Honda Accord, Lincoln Navigator and the Volvo XC60. About 55 automotive journalists serve as judges. Eligible vehicles must be new or substantially changed. According to Reuters, the redesigned-for-2015 Hyundai Sonata is not enjoying the same degree of success in the early going as the previous sixth-gen model, which proved to be one of the most important models in the company's history and ushered in the company's so-called "Fluidic Sculpture" design language that we still see today. Citing a recent review from The New York Times that called the car's more conservative styling "bland" and "boring," Reuters also points to analysts who claim the higher price of the new Sonata, as well as smaller rebates and incentives, are hurting sales. Honda and Toyota both offered anywhere from $600 to $800 more on the hoods of their Accord and Camry sedans last month.
