Hyundai brings in John Pangilinan for SEMA-bound Genesis Coupe

There's little question that Hyundai has emerged as a tuner's favorite, and few have pushed the limits quite like John Pangilinan. The SEMA stalwart is known for turning out candy-colored Korean tuning jobs, and has now teamed up with Hyundai for this bright blue Genesis coupe.
Set to debut next month in Vegas, the JP Edition Genesis Coupe features flared fenders designed by Jon Sibal, a carbon aero kit and custom headlights, topped off by by an Atlantic Blue metallic paint job with custom graphics. But that's just what you can see. Under the hood, the JP Genesis packs an AEM cold air intake, ARK Performance exhaust, turbo downpipe, KW coilover suspension, Whiteline sway bars, ARK strut, 19-inch forged alloys, Toyo rubber and Brembo brakes.
Inside it's got Recaro buckets, a racing harnesses, GoPro camera, Alpine sound system and Katzkin suede and leather upholstery. The finished package will be on display at SEMA, but in the meantime you can scope out the full details in the press release below.

Hyundai launches Blue Link update for smartwatches

Hyundai released an update for its Blue Link app last week that makes it work through smartwatches. The app is downloaded through Google Play and works with Android Wear watches. A version that's compatible with Apple smartwatches is under development, and Hyundai expects to launch it soon after the Apple Watch launches April 24, a spokesman said. The Blue Link smartwatch app was revealed this year at the Consumer Electronics Show. Features include remote engine start and stop capabilities, remote door locking and unlocking, the ability to honk the horn and flash the lights and a function to call roadside assistance. All of the features can be done through voice commands. Hyundai's smartwatch app will work with cars equipped with first and second generations of Blue Link. The smartwatch app is a companion feature, and it needs to be paired to the owner's smartphone that has the Blue Link app. Blue Link launched on the 2012 Sonata and rolled out across Hyundai's lineup in 2013. The second-generation system is available on the 2015 Genesis, Sonata and Azera. 2015 Hyundai Genesis Sedan can be yours for under $40K [w/video]

While we've already tested Hyundai's all-new, second-generation Genesis Sedan in its home market, the Korean brand unveiled the American-spec luxury car to the sleep-deprived journalists of Detroit.
The big sedan isn't wildly different from its KDM counterpart, boasting the same pair of engines that have done so well in the first-generation car. The 5.0-liter V8 still produces 429 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque, while the 3.8-liter V6 returns 333 hp and 291 lb-ft of torque. Unlike the current cars, the standard eight-speed automatic can send power to all four wheels, if so optioned. Rear drive remains standard.
The big piece of news surrounding the new Genesis is that Hyundai is aiming to keep the luxury sedan's starting price below $40,000. We knew official pricing hadn't been released, but according to a report from Automotive News, the company is confident the entry level models should remain quite reasonably priced.
