Hyundai dumps Genesis Coupe for upscale model

Hyundai has confirmed that it is killing off the Genesis Coupe after the 2016 model year. A replacement for the coupe is expected to come after 2017, but it will fit into the automaker's luxury sub-brand, Genesis. "In regards to the Genesis Coupe, 2016 will in fact be the last model year for this popular, rear-drive sporty coupe," Christine Henley, Product PR Manager for Hyundai, told Autoblog. The vehicle is being replaced by something that fits better into the new Genesis brand's lineup. "A new, more sophisticated and luxurious coupe appropriate for the new Genesis brand is currently under development." Previous rumors surmised that the coupe will get a 3.3-liter turbocharged engine, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel-drive. Inspiration for the upcoming coupe could come from the Hyundai HND-9 Sports Coupe Concept that was revealed a few years ago. Currently, Genesis offers the 2017 G80 midsize sedan and flagship G90 sedan. A luxurious, sporty coupe would fit perfectly in between these two vehicles to compete with more established luxury coupe players, as well as newer competitors like the Lexus RC and upcoming Infiniti Q60. 2015 Hyundai Genesis automatically slows for speed cameras

Speed cameras are something of a foreign curiosity for many drivers in the US. Sure, there is sporadic use of red light cameras here, but the cams to catch speeders are much more popular in Europe. However, Hyundai might have created a way to end that scourge for our foreign auto enthusiast compatriots. The Korean automaker recently showed off a system on the Genesis at its headquarters in Seoul that could detect and automatically slow down for the nefarious devices. It could make many speeding tickets a thing of the past.
According to Australian website Drive, the Genesis' tech is actually a simple integration of already existing structures. It combines a navigation system programmed with the locations of speed cameras and the sedan's automatic braking. Drivers get an audible warning about a half-mile beforehand to slow down, and if they don't the car can do it for them.
Unfortunately, this potentially money-saving tech isn't leaving its domestic market anytime soon. "This is offered only in Korea and not planned for the US. In Korea, many cars with smart cruise control offer this and it is viewed as a safety feature," said Hyundai spokesperson Jim Trainor to Autoblog via email.

Hyundai offers three free years of Blue Link safety tech [w/videos]

As of now, the Assurance Connected Care service that Hyundai introduced at the New York Auto Show with the 2014 Genesis sedan is complimentary for three years on any vehicle equipped with the company's Blue Link telematic systems. It's the third service package to join the Blue Link suite, after Essentials and Guidance.
Assurance Connected Car provides owners with monthly vehicle reports, maintenance alerts, notification of diagnostic trouble codes and safety features like SOS emergency assistance and automatic collision notification sent to Blue Link agents. The service can also be transferred to new owners within the three-year timeframe. Owners who already have Blue Link can add Assurance Connected Care "at a reduced price," but Hyundai hasn't said what that price is yet.
