Electric Hyundai Kona crossover to have Bolt-beating 292-mile range
Thu, Feb 8 2018An all-electric Hyundai Kona will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show next month, but we already know a few intriguing details about the electric version of the subcompact SUV we've had a brief chance to drive. According to Hyundai's press release, the Kona EV will be available with two powertrain choices, including "one of the most powerful electric engines on the market with a class-leading range of almost 470 kilometers." That would be 292 miles. That's using the WLTP standard, or Worldwide harmonized Light vehicles Test Procedures, which currently lists the Chevrolet Bolt as achieving 240 miles of range (versus 238 with the EPA). In other words, the electric Kona could be the new non-Tesla range king — the Model 3 Long-Range model is rated at an EPA-estimated 310 miles, and the Model S 100D is at 335. Hyundai exec admits company studying pickup, no foolin'
Mon, 01 Apr 2013Automotive News reports Hyundai may be considering jumping into the US pickup market. Lee In-cheol, ice president of international sales, says the company's product planners and engineers are currently trying to determine what size pickup would be best for our market. Currently, the automaker has no plans to build a truck, but Lee says that hasn't stopped US dealers from asking the company to produce one. The US and South Korea signed a free trade agreement that took effect in 2012 that removes the so-called Chicken Tax from South Korean imports in seven years.
That means that Hyundai or Kia could import a foreign-built truck without incurring the 25 percent tax on the vehicle's value after 2021. Even so, Hyundai isn't committed into jumping into the US full-size pickup market. Instead, the company may build a smaller truck designed to compete in emerging markets.
We've been hearing word about Hyundai's pickup musings for years now, including a rumored partnership with Chrysler to produce Ram-based trucks, but so far, nothing has come of it.
First 2014 Hyundai Equus shipment adrift in Pacific Ocean

According to USA Today, a Korean freighter with the first 61 examples of the luxury sedan packed away in its belly has lost engine power in the western Pacific Ocean, and is adrift.
The ship, Morning Spruce, has apparently been without power for several days and is floating in the Sea of Okhotsk. It isn't clear when it will be repaired or reach US shores to divulge its contents. As a result of the wandering Spruce, Hyundai has reportedly had to reschedule some of its planned marketing efforts for the new model.
The 2014 Equus receives a suite of changes inside and out, including freshened styling, revamped center stack controls, a new instrument cluster and additional tech. Underneath, the rear-drive sedan gets a reworked suspension and a new sport mode to ease some of its nautical-by-nature handling. The 5.0-liter Tau V8 and eight-speed transmission - updates for 2012 - stay the course for 2014.
