Hyundai and Kia recalling 1.6M more models for faulty brake switch
Wed, 03 Apr 2013In what is likely the largest recall campaign for Hyundai and Kia, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a recall of more than 1.6 million models due to a faulty brake switch. This is in addition to almost 700,000 Hyundai and Kia models recalled for the same problem back in 2009.
In more than 620,000 Kia models and 1 million Hyundai products for the 2007 through 2011 model years, the brake switch could malfunction causing the brake lights to not illuminate, which could lead to accident. Other possible issues with a faulty switch include the cruise control not cancelling with the brake pedal, the push-button starter not working properly and the shift interlock not disengaging causing the transmission to be stuck in Park. To fix the problem, the brake lights switch will be replaced.
Due to the large number of units being recalled, both automakers are issuing a notice by next month with parts not expected to be ready until June. The full list of affected vehicles and the NHTSA press releases are posted below.
Hyundai recalls Elantra to fix stability control system
Mon, Jan 11 2016The Basics: Hyundai will recall 155,000 examples 2011 and 2012 Elantra with production dates between October 29, 2010 and October 25, 2011. The Problem: A malfunctioning yaw sensor for the electronic stability control system can cause the application of one or more of the brakes and cut power to the engine, as well as the illumination of the ESC indicator light. Injuries/Deaths: None reported. The Fix: Dealers will check the ESC sensors and update the ESC calibration free of charge. If You Own One: Hyundai is expected to notify affected owners about the recall beginning February 19, 2016. I think that the new BMW 4 Series is an attractive coupe. The design is a little bit on the wrong side of "fussy" I'll grant you, and I don't particularly care for the look of the scalloped, black-bordered vents on the fender sides - functional though they may be. But for the most part, I find the coupe to be pretty pleasing to look at.
You all, by and large, do not care for the 4 Series. (For the sake of constructing my intellectual argument, I'm going to make the ridiculous statistical assumption that the 140 or so comments on our 4 Series First Drive provide a representative opinion of our readership as a whole.) In the first 24 hours after we published our review of the car, you felt moved to comment that it was "ugly," "REALLY ugly" and "a disappointment" among other, less reprintable statements of ardor.
