Hyundai teases HCD-14 concept ahead of Detroit debut

As is the case ahead of any major auto show, we're expecting to see a plethora of leaked information or teased images before next week's Detroit Auto Show, and Hyundai is already giving us something pretty exciting to look forward to. Shown above in this shadowy teaser is the HCD-14 Concept, which the automakers says gives a "glimpse into future Hyundai premium vehicle design."
Based on the shape of the headlights and the sloping roofline, this image matches up quite well with some spy shots we saw last month reported to be the next-generation Genesis sedan. It also bears more than just a striking resemblance to Kia's new flagship sedan, the Quoris. Either way, we approve. Aside from the car's appearance, Hyundai is also promising "advanced 3-D gesture-based technology controls" inside the car as well as a sportier driving dynamic.
This is all we have to work with right now, but we'll have all the coverage for this new Hyundai and everything else on display at the auto show kicking off a week from today.

I'm Adam Morath and this is your Autoblog Minute. Two of Toyota's plants are closed following the deadly explosions that hit the busy port city of Tianjin, China. The Associated Press reports over 100 people dead, hundreds injured and many still missing. According to the Japanese automaker 50 Toyota employees were injured in last weeks [00:00:30] event and they plan to shut down production in their Chinese plants until Wednesday. Various automakers were also affected, including Renault and Hyundai who claim a significant loss of vehicles. As the Chinese government works to investigate the cause and fallout of this tragedy our thoughts are with the victims and their families. For Autoblog, I'm Adam Morath. Hyundai will open up some hydrogen fuel cell patents in Korea

Last year, Tesla made its electric vehicle patents open source. Last month, Toyota did the same with some of its hydrogen fuel cell patents. Now, Hyundai is going to let some Korean companies get access to the automaker's patents as parts of a innovation center project in Gwangju, South Korea. Just Auto reports that about 1,000 "unused patents" belonging to Kia and Hyundai will be made available to participants in a new automotive start-up hub. There will be 12 of these hubs in Korea, not all focused on hydrogen fuel cells. Hyundai said that it will help raise $164 million to help turn Gwangju in a center for eco-friendly industry. Phil Floraday, Hyundai Motor America manager of Midwest Product Public Relations, told AutoblogGreen that, "The main purpose of the patents mentioned in the story will be to nurture small- and medium-sized businesses in the Gwangju area. While we cannot clarify all the patents at this time, we can tell you that they are not entirely focused on FCEV or eco-friendly patents only."
