The Good • Great gas mileage. Average 28-31 MPG. • Well maintained with all maintenance records for the last 8 years. • Brand-new in-dash Kenwood KDC-155U stereo with USB and Pandora controls. • 5-speed manual. :-) • Spotless interior. • Owned for the last 8 years, in the same family for longer. • Runs great (except the idle air control - see below). The OK • Stored outdoors; some weather wear on hood. • No serious body damage but does have some small dents and scratches. The Ugly • Problem with the idle air control system. Causes the check engine light to come on sometimes and occasionally races the engine when slowing or idling. Performs fine and doesn't substantially affect gas mileage. It's been attempted to be repaired multiple times and all of the idle air control systems have been replaced with new components except the computer itself. I just took it in to have it checked for any other error codes (there weren't any). If you have any questions about this vehicle, don't hesitate to ask! |

2013 Hyundai Santa Fe probed by NHTSA over axle failure
Wed, 10 Jul 2013According to Reuters, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched a preliminary evaluation of the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe after receiving two complaints of broken front axles on vehicles with fewer than 5,000 miles on their odometers. Naturally, a broken axle could result in the loss of control of the vehicle, especially if it occurs at high speed. It's not immediately clear if the investigation centers on the five-seat Sport, the seven-seat model or both.
No actual recall has yet been issued, and "no safety defect has been identified," according to a statement Hyundai released to Reuters, which added, "Hyundai will, of course, take any actions necessary to ensure the safety of our customers if the information gathered during the investigation indicates that action is appropriate."

Hyundai Mingtu revealed on billboard ahead of Shanghai
Fri, 19 Apr 2013The so-called Hyundai Mini-Sonata now has a proper name. Called the Mingtu in China, this new sedan will slot in between the compact Elantra and midsize Sonata, and it sports a pretty nifty look.
We've known for a while now that Hyundai is working on a more mature version of its Fluidic styling language, the first fruits of which showed up in the latest Santa Fe, and the Mingtu seems to take that refined appearance to the next level with a refined look of creased lines, a chiseled fascia and a smooth greenhouse.
There's no indication that this car will be offered in the US market, but it's certainly possible that some of its styling elements will carry over to the next Elantra or Sonata. In any case, expect a range of 1.8- and 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines to be announced for the Chinese market when the Mingtu makes its official debut at the Shanghai Motor Show this weekend.
2015 Hyundai Sonata plays a more mature tune
Wed, 16 Apr 2014Hyundai's new North American CEO Dave Zuckowski pulled a silky sheet off of the redesigned 2015 Sonata here at the New York Auto Show, ushering in not only a new era of domestic stewardship for the company, but also a new, more mature design direction for its mass-market vehicles.
Though we've already seen the striking sedan in a wealth of recent photos, seeing the car in person confirmed that Hyundai has another hit on its hands. The Sonata employs the Korean automaker's new "Fluidic Sculpture 2.0" design language, which we already witnessed in the new, much lower-volume Genesis. Hyundai describes the language as being more dignified, respectable and confident. We certainly agree with that.
Gone are the swooping lines of old, which grabbed our attention on the previous generation. They've been replaced by straight edges and harder angles, most noticeably along the car's beltline. A larger, more refined grille with a wide air intake leads the car down the road. The stance is athletic, with a steeper, coupe-like roofline, quad chrome-tipped exhaust ports and horizontal lines in the rear, which give the car a planted look. The redesigned headlights are wing-like in appearance and, man, that burnt orange color is sexy.
