This is a 2000 Hyundai Accent, two door hatchback with 230019 miles. It has rust on the hood and fenders around the tires. The hood has dents in it from when I checked the oil and the hood didn't close completely and it opened going down the road. It has no power seats, windows or mirrors. It is a five speed manual and it runs well. I just put a new catalytic converter on it and it has new plugs. It gets approximately 37/40 mpg on long trips and 32/35 in the city. It has A/C but it has never worked since I have had it (belt to A/C compressor is not even on at this time). It has some dents on the drivers side door and area just behind drivers door. The front tires are down to the wear bars and the rear tires are in excellent shape. It is leaking a little oil now around the value cover (just replaced the gasket). It starts and runs well, right now when I start it there is a little squeak in the engine compartment from the power steering unit. I believe it is a matter of replacing the belt, the steering works fine. I bought this car around 100k and have driven it up to 230k. I am selling it because I bought a new vehicle and don't need it anymore. It can be driven to your location without any problems if you insure and license the vehicle. The vehicle just passed NC vehicle inspection without any problems. BUYER MUST PICK UP VEHICLE IN WINSTON SALEM NC AFTER COMPLETED AUCTION FROM SELLER. SELLER WILL NOT DELIVER VEHICLE. VEHICLE IS SOLD AS IS WITH NO WARRANTY.

Eagle-eyed Autoblog reader James spotted a camouflaged compact hatchback sitting in a parking lot in South Korea the other day, and fortunately for us, he had a camera with him. At first glance, this is obviously a new Hyundai based on the upward sweeping crease along the side that is characteristic of Hyundai's new 'fluidic sculpture' design language.
Closer examination indicates that this is almost certainly the five-door hatchback version of the new Verna/Accent that debuted at the Beijing Motor Show in April. The wheels are the same as the ones we saw on the Verna and the side crease extends ahead of the door cut-line which differs from the Elantra that debuted a week later at the Busan show in Korea.

Hyundai planning EV for US market

California's stringent automotive emissions mandates, which require that all automakers include some form of Zero-Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) in the lineup, may be forcing the hand of Hyundai, suggests The Detroit Bureau after a recent tweet from John Krafcik, HMA Chief Executive. Up until now, the Korean automaker has been attempting to meet future regulations with fuel-cell vehicles like the modified ix35/Tuscon models (the technology uses hydrogen to generate electricity), but consumers have been slow to warm to hydrogen citing an immature and undeveloped refueling infrastructure.
While battery-powered EVs are far from perfect, they appeal to consumers who have short commutes and owners who find it convenient to recharge at home. If Hyundai were to get into the EV game in short order, one solution could be the BlueOn battery car (shown above) that is sold in the automaker's domestic market. In its current state, the BlueOn offers a 16.4-kWh lithium polymer battery, which provides a range of just over 85 miles and a lethargic 0-60 time of 13.1 seconds.
To be competitive, Hyundai would have to boost performance or seek another more expensive solution. We'll have to wait for official word, or another tweet from Krafcik, to see which way the company is heading.

Hyundai tops Toyota in annual CarMD Vehicle Health Index

CarMD has released its third annual Vehicle Health Index, which for the 2013 tracked the frequency and cost of repairs for "check engine" problems of 119-million vehicles built between the 2003 and 2013 model years. For the first two years of the index, Toyota ranked at the top of the list, but this year's results see Hyundai moved to number one, pushing Toyota down a spot.
The Korean automaker's rise to the top has been "fueled by its low repair frequency," according to CarMD. Toyota is second to Hyundai in lowest repair frequency, but Toyotas also have the highest average cost of repair. (Interestingly, General Motors vehicles have the lowest average.) Both Toyota's and Hyundai's manufacturer "health" ratings suffered this year, but Toyota took a bigger hit, which also is what helped Hyundai achieve the top ranking.
While Hyundai is the top manufacturer in the index, the 2012 Toyota Camry is the top vehicle. The best-ranking Hyundai was the 2010 Elantra (behind three Nissan models and four Toyotas), which took the number eight spot. Hyundai has six other vehicles in the top 100.
