Military Marine Corps M1038/M998 HMMWV Humvee Hummer Ultimate 4WD SUV/Truck 4X4 & 105A2 1.5-Ton Cargo Trailer

This listing is for my personal ALL-MAN ultimate off-road vehicle!!!  It is a 1985 All-Military ex-Marine Corps M1038 HMMWV (Humvee) in AWESOME fully-functional condition!  This is the 4-door soft-top troop carrier version with a 52" deep-fording snorkel setup.  I have spent the past 14-months getting her mechanically rebuilt all the way around, and she is a hard-running, mud-chewing, water-fording off-road MONSTER!  This thing is the ULTIMATE off-road vehicle fit for only the toughest enthusiast.  Here is a partial listing of the more major items that I have rebuilt or replaced over the past year:
  • 400 Turbo (THD) Transmission...
  • Transfer Case...
  • Emergency Brake...
  • All 4 Geared Hubs...
  • Primary (Driver-Rear) Half Axle...
  • 9-foot Whip Antenna and Base...
  • 5 x 24-bolt (offset) heavy-duty mag wheels...
  • 4 x Goodyear Wrangler MT/R Kevlar-Reinforced Off-Road Tires...
  • There are countless other lights/wiring/bolts/filters/etc that have also been replaced, but there are just too many to list here because you would not want to read them all...
This is not one of those wore-out POS crap trucks that are on the after market being sold as "OFF-ROAD ONLY" vehicles.  This is one of the very few original Military Humvee's with a LICENSED TITLE & TAG!!!  That's right!  The military was never actually supposed to sell these vehicles to the public, but in 2000 through a paper-work screw up the Marine Corps released a small number to the public.  This is one of those small few!  You can legally drive this thing on any road you want and no one can say a word to you!!!  It runs like a MULE!!!  Just take a look at the videos below...  This was in a red-clay pit that was softened from about 8-hours of rain the day before.  The non-slip differential allows these things to go where other trucks will just slip!

There are less than 30k miles on this baby, and the engine runs STRONG!  I would not hesitate to tell you to drive it anywhere in the continental USA.  My wife actually flew to Maryland and picked it up for me (I had a broken back...) over a year ago, and she drove it all the way back to Alabama without a problem...  You can feel safe to fly here and driver her home if you want!  I have also added a good deal of special insulation and exhaust shielding to cut down on the excessive heat and noise these military models were famous for.  This adds a good deal of comfort that the military doesn't get...

The only "negative" about this bad boy is that the winch has seized up and needs to be rebuilt.  That would only cost a couple-hundred dollars, and these military winches go for BIG MONEY!!!  Just do a search and see for yourself...  The truck has the original Military CARC camo paint, which also cannot be sold to the public.

Along with this massive truck I am selling my matching 105A2 1-1/2 ton military cargo trailer (see pictures) with original booms and cover!  These bad boys were made to be pulled off road through just about ANYTHING...  The trailer alone is worth $1,500 easy...  The Humvee also comes with 4-military HMMWV jack stands.  I use these as a 4-point lift when I am working on drive-train items...

Look...the only reason I am selling my baby is because we are getting ready to build a new house, so I am liquidating some of my more valuable toys.  I guaranty you will not be disappointed!!!

Good Luck & God Bless!!!

IIHS: High numbers of drivers treat partially automated cars as fully self-driving

Tue, Oct 11 2022

WASHINGTON — Drivers using advanced driver assistance systems like Tesla Autopilot or General Motors Super Cruise often treat their vehicles as fully self-driving despite warnings, a new study has found. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), an industry funded group that prods automakers to make safer vehicles, said on Tuesday a survey found regular users of Super Cruise, Nissan/Infiniti ProPILOT Assist and Tesla Autopilot "said they were more likely to perform non-driving-related activities like eating or texting while using their partial automation systems than while driving unassisted." The IIHS study of 600 active users found 53% of Super Cruise, 42% of Autopilot and 12% of ProPILOT Assist owners "said that they were comfortable treating their vehicles as fully self-driving." About 40% of users of Autopilot and Super Cruise — two systems with lockout features for failing to pay attention — reported systems had at some point switched off while they were driving and would not reactivate. "The big-picture message here is that the early adopters of these systems still have a poor understanding of the technologyÂ’s limits," said IIHS President David Harkey. The study comes as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is scrutinizing Autopilot crashes. Since 2016, the NHTSA has opened 37 special investigations involving 18 deaths in crashes involving Tesla vehicles and where systems like Autopilot were suspected of use. Tesla did not respond to requests for comment. Tesla says Autopilot does not make vehicles autonomous and is intended for use with a fully attentive driver who is prepared to take over. GM, which in August said owners could use Super Cruise on 400,000 miles (643,740 km) of North American roads and plans to offer Super Cruise on 22 models by the end of 2023, did not immediately comment. IIHS said advertisements for Super Cruise focus on hands-free capabilities while Autopilot evokes the name used in passenger airplanes and "implies TeslaÂ’s system is more capable than it really is." IIHS in contrast noted ProPILOT Assist "suggests that itÂ’s an assistance feature, rather than a replacement for the driver." NHTSA and automakers say none of the systems make vehicles autonomous. Nissan said its name "is clearly communicating ProPILOT Assist as a system to aid the driver, and it requires hands-on operation.

Build a Jeep Gladiator 392 next? The Hummer H3T Alpha blazed the trail

Tue, Nov 17 2020

The 2021 Wrangler Rubicon 392 will combine the go-anywhere capability of a Jeep's iconic off-roader with the grunt of a V8 for the first time in decades. As cool as that is, we can't help but think Jeep is missing out on a huge opportunity to pair that 470-horsepower, 6.4-liter Hemi V8 with the Wrangler's pickup cousin, the Jeep Gladiator, in the form of a Mojave 392.  Autoblog took part in a media Q&A session with Jeep ahead of the Rubicon 392's announcement in which the company's product higher-ups said that there are currently no official plans to build a 392 variant of the Gladiator pickup. But whether or not Jeep has plans, it certainly has precedent, and from our perspective, a market.  Rewind to 2008, better known as one of the worst possible years to introduce a gas-guzzling, V8-powered pickup truck. Enter the 2009 Hummer H3T Alpha, the first variant of Hummer's midsize truck/SUV hybrid to be offered with a 5.3-liter V8. The 300-horsepower small-block was an upgrade to the sturdy but relatively uninspiring 3.7-liter inline-5 that the H3 lineup had inherited from its midsize pickup platform mates.  As our Jeremy Korzeniewski noted in the Rubicon 392's introductory piece, an open-top Jeep has not been offered with an optional V8 for as long as the "Wrangler" nameplate has existed. The last Jeep 4x4 to do so was still a CJ, or civilian Jeep, and the 304 cubic-inch engine came from American Motors Corporation. Incidentally, this generation of the Wrangler is also the first to be offered in a pickup variant. Cue the beard-stroking.  Now, frankly, it's not even remotely fair to compare the H3T's powertrain offerings to the decade-newer Gladiator's, but the Hummer actually boasts a few advantages over Jeep's modern pickup. While most of the Jeep's off-road specs give it an edge, the Gladiator doesn't come close to the H3T's 30.1-degree departure angle, for instance. And in more practical terms, the stubbier H3T has other maneuverability advantages. The Gladiator has 3" of wheelbase and 5" of overall length on the H3T, and a 22.4-foot turning radius to show for it. The Hummer's? Just 18.5'.

My year in EVs: 8 electrics that are changing the car industry

Wed, Dec 1 2021

The year 2021 will go down as an inflection point in the auto industry’s transition to electric vehicles. It's when many much-anticipated models became reality. No longer sketches or sketchy prototypes, electric vehicles appeared from all corners with everything from the Lucid Air to Ford Mustang Mach-E changing how we think about transportation. I managed to drive a lot of them, and as I went through my notes, I realized IÂ’ve got a mini memoir of the seminal EVs of 2021. HereÂ’s my take on eight of them. Hummer EV Easily the most over-the-top EV I tested this year. The 1,000-hp super truck lived up to the hype with its domineering presence, stupendous power and simply being a reincarnated Hummer. I took it for a short spin on- and off-road at the General Motors Proving Grounds in Milford, Mich., and was impressed with the airy cabin, removable sky panels and expansive touchscreens. Yes, I crab walked, which felt like steering a pontoon boat, though I can see why it would be useful. Lucid Air Dream Performance The most beautiful sedan I tested all year, EV or otherwise. Unlike the futuristic Mercedes EQS — which is quite attractive — LucidÂ’s car is a blend of mid-century modern interior aesthetics and classic European exterior styling. When I walked up for my test drive, someone who IÂ’m pretty sure was comedian Jon Lovitz was sitting inside and taking it all in. As it sat in the valet of a hotel in a wealthy suburban enclave north of Detroit, the Lucid drew more attention than any of the Mercedes, Cadillacs or Lexus models passing by. The driving experience was enveloping. Starting at $169,000 for the Performance model (reservations are closed), the Lucid I sampled packed 1,111 hp and 471 miles of range. From the precise steering to the comfortable suspension, the dynamics were spot-on. It's a formidable product, and all the more impressive given itÂ’s LucidÂ’s first. Chevy Bolt EV The Bolt was the most pleasant surprise for me. It handled well, offered low-to-the-ground hot hatch dynamics and the steering was dialed-in. Adding a crossover variant for the new generation was a smart play. On a summer morning where I went to a first drive of the Ford Bronco at an off-road course, my hour-long commute in the Bolt was an enjoyable appetizer.  The Bolt was also my biggest disappointment due to its extensive recalls for fire risk. Ironically, I had the Bolt in my driveway when the initial recall went out for the previous generation (2017-19).
