2004 Honda Odyssey. 150,000 miles.  There is both some good and bad about this van, I'm going for full disclosure here so there will be no surprises.  I bought this car Certified Pre Owned in 2006 in Pennsylvania, but have also had it in Pensacola, Fl and now Oklahoma City due to military PCS (Permanent Change of Station) moves during that time.

The Bad:
-This is not a pristine van.  It was built to be a family hauler, and it has done that job well.  There are some upholstery/carpet stains.  There is some evidence of our famous Oklahoma hailstorms on the hood and roof, although it is minor for the most part.  In other words, don't expect cosmetic perfection!
-The headlight covers have clouded over, typical for the age of the van.  as a result the lights at night are not as bright as they once were.
-One of the headrests in the second row bucket seats is loose and rattles around.
-The backlight for the Odometer in the instrument cluster has burned out.  The Odometer still functions perfectly and is clearly visible during daytime.
-The key fob is inoperative.  This may just be a case of a dead fob battery, but I don't use it, so have never bothered to find out.
-The rubber cupholder inserts are missing for some of the holders in the center console.  The cupholder still works, but if you have a smaller sized drink, it may have a tendency to tip over during turns or sudden stops/starts.
-One of the trim covers for the drivers seat is loose, may need to be replaced eventually.
-The drivers side rear vent window motor operates intermittently.  I don't use those windows very often, so it hasn't been much of a problem for me.

The Good:
-New tires, replaced less than 10,000 miles ago, still look and drive as new.
-Transmission replaced under warranty at 99,000 miles.
-Timing belt/water pump/radiator hoses/motor mounts replaced in 2011 at 105,000 miles.
-Brake fluid flushed/new brake rotors in October 2012.  The pads are beginning to squeal, new pads will be installed this week.
-Oil changed every 7,500 miles or as per service indicator.  Mobil 1 5W-20.  Most recent oil service on November 30.
-Strong engine, uses no oil, still averages 21mpg around town and over 25 mpg on highway trips.
-Climate control works great, the A/C is still able to cope with the Oklahoma heat, no problem
-Factory Honda radio replaced with an aftermarket head unit in 2012, includes CD as well as Bluetooth hands free calling and A2DP audio streaming.  Original Honda radio and 6 disk CD changer will go with the van, along with the factory radio anti-theft code card.
-Most of the major services, including the timing belt service, were accomplished at Johan's Hondura here in Oklahoma City.

Overall this has been an extremely reliable van for my family since I purchased it in 2006.  Outside of the transmission, it has only required normal maintenance to keep on the road.  I would have no concern at all about driving this van across country tomorrow if the need arose.  Only reason for selling is that my wife is ready for an upgrade!  I've done my best to list everything that I know is wrong with the van, but I could have missed something.  Check the pictures!

Asking $5,000, will consider reasonable offers.  If you need a reliable family hauler or work vehicle with plenty of cargo room, this is the one for you!

If you buy the car and you're not local, I will cooperate with any shipping you arrange at your expense.  Payment by cashier's check, certified check, or money order within 7 days of purchase, or cash is also acceptable if you pick the van up in person. Payment must clear before I will release the van to your shipper.  The van is sold as-is, with no warranty or guarantee.  Please ask me questions for clarification if you are unsure about anything.  I'll be happy to take and upload more pictures if necessary.

Honda reveals XR-V crossover in Chengdu

Thu, 04 Sep 2014

Global automakers have been moving largely towards global products, but that doesn't mean it can't tweak them for local tastes. Take Honda, for example, and its new compact crossover. Unveiled late last year as the Vezel, the crossover is expected to arrive in Europe and North America as the HR-V. But in China, it's being called the XR-V and adopts the form you see here.
Presented by Dongfeng Honda at the Chengdu Motor Show, the new XR-V is based closely on the Vezel but adopts some unique bodywork for a more rugged look. The front end gets a more SUV-like grille and bumper, while the side flanks are less swoopy but with more muscular wheel arches. The result may not be as bonkers as the Mugen version that debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon tuner show, but reminds us more of the similarly named and ruggedized Subaru XV Crosstrek.
Though technically billed as a concept, the Chinese-market XR-V looks just about ready for production as it is. Both 1.5- and 1.8-liter engines are specified, and while there may not be a wealth of other details available, you can read what there is in the press release (presented in original and translated forms) below.

Honda Expands Takata Airbag Recall To 5.4M Units In The US

Tue, Dec 9 2014

While Honda already announced plans to take its front driver's side Takata airbag inflator recall nationwide, the automaker has now officially reported on the number of affected vehicles and the specific models in need of repair. The expanded campaign covers an estimated 5.4 million units across the US, including those already being fixed under the previous regional actions. That number is an expansion of the five million units initially reported by NHTSA. The affected models under the nationwide recall are the 2001-2007 Accord with a four-cylinder engine, 2001-2002 Accord V6, 2001-2005 Civic, 2002-2006 CR-V, 2003-2011 Element, 2002-2004 Odyssey, 2003-2007 Pilot, 2006 Ridegline, 2003-2006 Acura MDX, 2002-2003 TL and 2002 CL. For customers who expressed concern about their vehicle's safety, Honda had already been replacing the inflators nationwide. It's possible for the inflators in these vehicles to rupture when inflating the airbag, spraying metal fragments at occupants. This problem has been blamed for at least five deaths worldwide and at least 139 reported injuries. In its statement, Honda said that it worked with Takata to test the recalled inflators in the original high-humidity recall regions, and there were no abnormal deployments in these evaluations. Honda will begin notifying owners by "over time," according to its statement. Priority will be put on the geographic areas with the highest risk of ruptures. Those in the original recall region were contacted in September. Earlier in December, Honda partnered with Autoliv to supply the automaker with replacement inflators for this campaign. Autoliv predicted it would take six months for deliveries to start. Takata also increased its production of substitute components. Scroll down to read the company's announcement of this nationwide expansion. Statement by American Honda Regarding National Safety Improvement Campaign: Driver's Front Airbag Inflator Supplied by Takata Dec 8, 2014 - TORRANCE, Calif. Honda will voluntarily expand a regional Safety Improvement Campaign initiated in June 2014 (NHTSA No. 14V-351) into a national Safety Improvement Campaign affecting certain 2001 through 2011 Honda and Acura vehicles in the United States to replace the driver frontal airbag inflator, free of charge. Honda is expanding this Safety Improvement Campaign to address concerns raised by its customers whose vehicles were not included in the regional campaign.

Honda, Subaru airlifting parts to bypass port labor diputes

Fri, Feb 6 2015

It should be abundantly obvious that a vital element in building cars is actually having the components on hand to assemble them. A labor dispute on the West Coast between the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and management is not making that quite so easy for some Japanese automakers. Work slowdowns at the ports have pushed Honda and Subaru parent Fuji Heavy Industries into flying some parts into the country. The two automakers began shipping by airplane late last month to avoid production delays, according to Bloomberg, but it has been an expensive solution. Subaru's chief financial officer said the decision cost around $60 million more per month than sending components by cargo ship. They aren't the only companies dealing with the problem, either. Toyota reportedly stopped overtime assembly at some of its factories here because of the delays in getting parts, according to Bloomberg. The dockworkers have been negotiating on a new contract since May 2014, and the current offer on the table to them has offered a 3 percent raise, according to Bloomberg. Although, the union is reportedly considering another slowdown at 29 ports along the West Coast in the coming days.
