Murphysboro, Illinois, United States

Up for bid is an awesome 2003 Honda Odyssey EX-L.  The van is in full working order.  Super clean and well cared for.  A/C blows super cold, heat is hot, DVD player, rear air and rear air control, heated leather front seats, power drivers seat, rear sliding doors work, 3 sets of keys, 2 with automatic door/lock openers, all original purchase paperwork, the downside....transmission slipped in 3rd gear last week.  No check engines lights are on (see photo) but I did take the van to my mechanic (who is not a friend of friend but a real, certified mechanic) and had a diagnostic ran and he confirmed it is slipping in 3rd.  It does not do it often and when it does I correct it by letting off the gas and reapplying and it shifts but it does happen sometimes.  But, in the words of my mechanic, "it won't leave you stranded" so, driving it home or having it hauled would be a decision you would need to make.  I am available to show the van in Murphysboro, IL.  Pickup after auction end is the responsibility of buyer, a $500.00 deposit would need to be made within 24 hours of a winning bid or I will re list it.  Tires still have lots of tread and their are no major dents just a few chips as noted in the photos.  The farthest passenger side ceiling air vent is missing the insert but a new one could be purchased on Ebay for $25.00 if it bothers you.  Just had the oil changed a couple hundred miles ago.  The DVD player does have the outlets for the wireless headphones but I do not have the headphones.  It does have a Sirius radio installed and ready to be activated by the new owner.  Third row is stow and second row captains chairs are removable.  All drawers, storage components and tray table between driver and passenger are fully functional.  Cup holders on sides of 2nd row captain chairs and cup holders available for third row.  All leather.  All original floor mats.  Clear title in my name, in hand.  Cruise control works.  Homing device you could sync to items like garage doors, interior computer operated lights, etc.  I tried to cover everything but if you have any other questions please feel free to ask!  Happy Bidding!

Honda CB350 and cafe racer culture explored by Electric Federal

Sun, 20 Oct 2013

The latest video from Electric Federal covers one of our favorite aspects of motorcycle culture - café racers. In an interview with Adam "Gasser" Gaspic, the owner of Gasser Customs, EF takes a look at the culture and one of Gasser's latest offerings, a hopped-up Honda CB350, called the Silver Bullet.
Gasser has gone all-out on the Silver Bullet, replacing some of the body parts with fiberglass and delivering more than a few upgrades to the rebuilt engine. The brakes and suspension of the smaller bike also get some attention, as do some of the bike's aesthetics. Besides the upgrades, there's just something to be said for the sleek, minimalist nature of the little Honda.
Naturally, the videography is gorgeous, and it's a great look at a kind of motorcycling that seems to be overlooked in the world of sport bikes and Harley-Davidson-style cruisers. Take a look below for the full video.

Honda underreported 1,729 claims of injuries or deaths since 2003

Tue, Nov 25 2014

Among these underreported cases were eight Takata airbag inflator ruptures not submitted. Following an independent audit of its safety reporting procedures, Honda has found massive holes in its methodology and practices that resulted in 1,729 claims of injuries or deaths going unreported to federal authorities dating back to July 2003. The cases should have been submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration as part of its quarterly Early Warning Reports (EWRs) under the TREAD Act, but they fell through the cracks for a variety of reasons. Honda blames the underreporting on three factors: data entry errors, computer coding problems and "an overly narrow interpretation of what constituted a 'written notice' under the TREAD Act." The first two issues were related to the computer program that collected the claims. If employees didn't enter a date in the "written claim received" field, then they were omitted from the EWRs. Also, the company's internal component codes didn't always match those used by NHTSA, and only the ones that were the same were disclosed. Finally, third-party documents, including police reports, were not considered. Honda says the computer error is now corrected, and the company is updating its data entry training. In the future, written and oral claims will be included in EWRs, as well. Among these underreported cases were eight Takata airbag inflator ruptures not submitted in Honda's EWRs, including one death and seven injuries. However, the automaker claims NHTSA was already aware of all of these incidents either from the agency's own records or from the company's notification outside of the EWR process. Unfortunately, this problem could have been stopped much sooner. The issue was first brought to light in 2011 but didn't result in a followup. NHTSA advised the automaker of discrepancies in January 2012, and it still did nothing. This third-party audit wasn't commissioned until September 2014. "Honda acknowledges that it lacked the urgency needed to correct its problems on a timely basis," it says in the announcement. Separately, the Japanese government is starting an investigation, as well. According to Reuters, the Japanese Transport Minister has created a task force to look into the Takata recalls and find out whether Honda under-reported incidents there. Scroll down to read the company's entire statement on the third-party investigation.

Japan's government gives hydrogen vehicles a big boost

Tue, Jun 3 2014

The Japanese government is really paving the way for hydrogen fuel cell technology on its roads. Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry is changing regulations on fuel tanks to make hydrogen cars more appealing to drivers, which should help put the country ahead of others in the race to develop a viable H2 fleet. Japan is raising the allowed pressure of hydrogen tanks from 700 atmospheres to 875, which has the effect of increasing driving range by 20 percent. This move puts the country in line with others with high-pressure fueling regulations. Japan is also in talks with the United Nations and the European Union to streamline inspection rules to make it easier to export Japan's fuel-cell vehicles. Toyota premiered its hydrogen-powered FCV Concept at the Tokyo Motor Show last year and plans to release a production version as early as next year. Honda also plans to build its own fuel-cell cars for 2015, and it debuted its FCEV Concept at last year's Los Angeles Auto Show. Nissan is sending mixed messages on hydrogen, both questioning the availability of a refueling infrastructure and working on developing the vehicles. In Japan, a relatively small country, increasing the range of fuel-cell vehicles makes creating a usable infrastructure a bit less daunting. Will hydrogen-fueled electric cars see the same sort of success as Toyota's Prius hybrid or battery-powered EVs? Only time will tell, but we can keep our fingers crossed that it will, and that the popularity spills over beyond Asia.
